Susan Rice is another mad bitch, and should not be Secretary of State. I’m noticing a trend.
You know, I am a white male, but the hysteria in the beltway power elites regarding the ascension of women and minorities is something to behold. Once again, DougJ was right:
I’m watching Monica Crowley and Pat Buchanan on the McLaughlin group and so help me God, I am praying for a dirty bomb in Georgetown.
These people will destroy us all.
Don’t be fooled by Obama—we are fucked.
It takes a village to destroy America.

White men are losing their grip on society and they don’t like it one bit.

I hope Obama gives no fucks. Time for compromise is over. Time for ass kicking/name taking. First up: Johnny Mac and Huckleberry Hound.

As Bill O’Reilly says, America isn’t the ‘leave it to beaver’ family anymore. And that scares him.

I want to see if the rancor against Susan Rice goes down or away after McCain made a fool of himself.
Villagers don’t like smart people.
They loved Reagan and Bush II.
Mike E
“You people” really didn’t think your betters would go quietly into the night after a mere ass-kicking, did you?

I guess it’s sexist to.point out she’s a neo-Wilsonian who loves them drones and getting involved in every civil war under the guise of ” who will think of the children?”
Like Iraq only made sense if Dick was an Iranian agent, our ME policy doesn’t make much sense unless you’re working for the KSA or their proxies like the Muslim Brotherhood.

It’s the dark underbelly of retro chic.
But, I been assuming Luke R is retro chic. I might be wrong.
Edit: sorry, this post is about Dana M.
I got my doofuses mixed up. Luke R went after Pelosi for not living up to his nincompoop stereotypes, right?
hildebrand
Clearly Milbank is back at the Georgetown water-cooler after a brief campaign trail absence – it is the only way one can explain his slight burst of common sense in the last few weeks of the campaign, and of course, perfectly explains his return to the hive mindset he displays here.
“Dana, Dana – drink this, and you will feel as right as rain.”
Full Metal Wingnut
I don’t understand this Republican trend of ending your career in disgrace. Time was when Giuliani was respected as a good Mayor (I mean, not without his problems, but as a New Yorker I thought he did a good job on the whole). And now he’s all but destroyed any good will he might have had under non-Republicans.
Likewise, grandpa walnuts used to be a master at convincing people he was a bipartisan savant, beholden to no party or group or special interests. Needless to say, his acting skills have atrophied.
jl
@Full Metal Wingnut:
” grandpa walnuts”
Like Lindsey, McCain has to get all basehead for the next primary.
Full Metal Wingnut
@jl: Luke R. Isn’t he something? It’s one thing to be a product of nepotism, but in Luke’s case, even his father was overrated. Funny every time I think about it. Like how copies (of copies of copies) degrade. The original (Tim) was kinda crappy to begin with. The next Russert journalist will likely choke to death on his own drool if the generation to generation intelligence continues to degrade at the same rate.
redshirt
@jl: McCain is safe till 2016, I thought. Didn’t he win re-election in 2010?
Also, fuck him. POW! Right in the kisser!

@Full Metal Wingnut:
It’s like the Peter Principle. They keep pushing for ever higher office until they finally do something so disgraceful that even other Republicans won’t vote for them. It’s the only way short of death to get rid of the guys.

It takes THE village to destroy America. Had to correct that for you.
Redshift
@Full Metal Wingnut: There was such a time, but I seem to recall that that time was well before the end of Giuliani’s tenure as mayor. My recollection is that if 9/11 hadn’t rescued him by making him “America’s Mayor,” he would have ended is career as the “widely despised mayor of NYC.”

Rice is a Phi Beta Kappa Rhodes Scholar from Stanford.
fuck all these mofos who have the nerve to write about her, and barely got out of college.

@redshirt: In 2016 Grandpa Walnuts will be lucky if he can still feed himself much less try to do a Senate campaign.
Keith G
I think some of you are reading this wrong. Milbank’s column is not about the past. It is about the future…2016 to be exact.
Dana is indicating that sides are being formed: Obama dead-enders like Rice and Hillary’s folks. Re-read his words. The main content is about an insult to HRC and how craftily the score was settled.
Gonna be an interesting four years.
Redshift
Milbank’s column is even more appalling because it leads off with how terrible it is that Obama personally defended Rice but not the great Petraeus. So I guess we have the answer about whether the Village fluffing of Petraeus will survive his resignation.
Patricia Kayden
Obama should nominate her as Secretary of State and dare the Wingnuts to oppose her. There’s not enough of them in the Senate anyways.
General Stuck
I read this swill earlier and want to punch Milbank in the junk for such a low down scummy article hit piece on Susan Rice.
Because she is just the right person for the Sec of State job that takes no guff from anyone. Hell, she even got Putin’s goat to where the Russians are weighing in on who should be our next SOS. I think of her as a compassionate Bolton and a lot better looking. suck on it Dana.

jl
@Keith G:
Maybe I don’t know the history well enough, but the Clinton deadender and Obama deadender story line is too convoluted for me to follow.
BTW, Milbank’s columns brings up an issue I still do not understand. The big flap over the delay in the Obama administration announcing the results of its investigation seems to hang on the question of why the US did not automatically take the Libyan governments word on what happened as completely accurate in the first days after the attacks. I do not see why the US should have done that.
Edit: Also seems to me that plenty of august gentlemen have elbows as sharp as anything Rice has thrown. For instance, old Saint McCain himself? Mostly I see sexism in that column. (And more suppressed anger and more ability to hold grudges)
Carolinus
Just speculation, but I get the feeling the someone in Hillaryland sees Rice as trying to somehow steal Hillary’s “stature” and really, really doesn’t want her to be the next Secretary of State.
The same source seems to have fed both Milbank’s and Maureen Dowd’s write-ups based on the obsession with profile/stature.
Milbank:
Dowd:
I’m guessing the two bolded folks are the same person — a Hillary aide who REALLY has it out for Rice, and really should be out of a job.
Smiling Mortician
@jl:
Because they didn’t, silly. If the Obama administration had taken the Libyan government’s word on what happened, then we’d be having hearings about how stupid and irresponsible and treasonous it was to believe them.
Alison
@rikyrah: Yeah, McCain’s bullshit calling her “not very bright” was the worst for me. EFF YOU, YOU DODDERING OLD FOOL. People like him and Milbank may not be overtly and blatantly racist and sexist, but they still have this fundamental incapability of believing that a woman and/or non-white person could possibly even be their equal let alone their better, intellectually. They’re so easily intimidated, it would be funny if it weren’t so enraging.
DH
Just remember, the Dick Whisperer, according to the Post, is “left-leaning.”
If Marty Baron can get rid of that horrible, horrible Jenny Rubin, and get Milbank to get counseling about his Hillary problem(Mad Bitch Beer, remember?), that would be progress.
hilts
Kirsten Powers gives Dana Millbank a serious run for his money in the biggest horse’s ass in the punditocracy contest
“Wednesday, President Obama bizarrely cast the U.N. Ambassador to the United Nations, Susan Rice, as some delicate flower the boys should stop picking on for her dissembling claims on five Sunday talk shows following the killing of 4 Americans in Benghazi. But, there is no damsel in distress and Obama’s paternalistic bravado in defense of a top administration official is going to come back to haunt him.”

HRA
After reading the article I definitely understand its payback time for McCain, Hilary, and whoever else was “insulted” in the past. It does not make the current dust up valid for Rice did nothing wrong and after the Petraeus hearing yesterday it was recognized as what she said on those morning shows was what she was given and agreed on by the CIA.
It’s just another foray into finding something for an impeachment. The sorrow and disgust is they will keep on trying.
jl
@jl:
Sorry, suppressed anger and grudges refers to McCain, not the Milbank article.

@Carolinus: I’ve seen some speculation that McGramps and his Dandy were going after Rice at Clinton’s behest. Apparently, Rice took some shots at Clinton during the ’08 election.
That said, I think McCain and Graham are going after Rice because they want a scalp but are afraid to go after Clinton and/or Patraeus.

@El Cid: I’m pretty sure Holbrooke gave as good as he got.

@cathyx: Sadly, this is true of a majority of my fellow white males[*]. But only a slight majority.
I was at dinner a couple of nights ago with a bunch of colleagues who I really like, a dinner I had been looking forward to. Somehow a few of them started making political comments (I think we all avoid political conversation on the job), and those talking all were nodding and agreeing as each recited talking points straight off of Fox News.
I was getting so angry I found myself almost about to stand up and walk out, before any of us had ordered dinner. I forced myself to remain calm, and also to remain silent. And then I noticed that the comments were coming from 5 out of 9 people at the table. The other 4 including myself were all maintaining a stony silence. Eventually the subject passed.
Everyone at the table was a white male (a commentary on my work place, but that’s another story). The percentages reflect the country in an interesting way.
[*] for purposes of such demographic discussions, I classify myself as more or less white, though the truth is better described as “complicated”.
eemom
I hope folks will remember this next time Milbank writes a reality-based column.
It’s been his MO for years — one really good column to 463 sequential dreckerpieces of false equivalance bullshit like this one….and even so, every time a one good column appears, folks marvel anew about Milbank being this wondrous species of born again head pulled out of ass Beltway insider.
Mark ye well my words.
Smiling Mortician
@Randy P: I’m always curious about such stories. Specifically, I wonder why you (and perhaps your other silent colleagues, although you can’t speak for them) would remain silent in such circumstances. I never do. I try not to be terribly confrontational because why ruin my evening by letting them piss me off — but I certainly interject some facts into the discussion and question at least some of the more egregious bits of bullshit. I find that sometimes those who are spouting nonsense don’t actually realize it’s nonsense until they’re asked to explain in the face of actual facts. And if they don’t come to any realizations, well, at least they’re the ones who look like fools by getting all pissy.

Is Pat Buchanan still on McLaughlin?
I thought he was dead.

Didn’t the Republicans and their beltway allies try to do the same thing to Justice Sotomayor? How did that turn out?

Yeah, but that’s quite understandable because he’s totally invested in the country anthropomorphizing fake “people” on TeeVee. Such as himself.

@becca: You assume the two are mutually exclusive?
But anyway, that was a DougJ post from January 2009. Nonetheless,Pat B is alive, although I neither know nor care whether he’s still on McLaughlin. Hell, I don’t even know if McLaughlin is still on McLaughlin.
Randy P
@Smiling Mortician: I guess it always seems pointless to me. I didn’t want to ruin the mood of the evening, and even if I had the facts I don’t believe they would have any effect. I have tried before and just been me with stubborn denial and a sour taste in my mouth.
Probably I’m just not very persuasive.
Fwiffo
I really don’t know anything about Susan Rice, but based on who is getting pissed off about her, I must assume she’s a remarkable human being and the best and only candidate for the job.
Smiling Mortician
@Randy P: Yeah, I hear you. But it sounds like the five Fox guys had already pretty much ruined the mood of the evening . . .
Full Metal Wingnut
@Hill Dweller: What leverage does Clinton have over gramps that he would do that for her?
Anya
@Full Metal Wingnut: I don’t think he’s doing Clinton’s bidding. Grandpa Walnuts is just a bitter loser who saw this Benghazi issue as his ticket to slam the administration while pretending to be a terrorism and security expert. Walnuts and his BFF Lindsay Graham are despised by republicans and democrats alike, so they throw occasional hissy fits to stay relevant.

Sadly, in this case, the wankers are right: Susan Rice is an incompetent careerist, cordially despised by foreign service professionals (as opposed to political appointees) in the State Department.
And what the hell was she doing talking about Benghazi? She’s head of the UN Mission, which has nothing to do with that particular cluster-f.

Other than Kerry and Rice, who else could be a plausible nominee?
I’d hate to see Kerry nominated because I don’t want him to leave the senate.

@karen marie: Richardson. Yeah he’s had a scandal, but if Obama can’t do rice, I’d let the republicans chew on him for a bit. Besides, the North Koreans love him. That’s got to count for something.
Suffern ACE
@Suffern ACE: ooh. How bout Biden to state and then Pelosi to VP as kind of insurance that the republicans won’t pull an impeachment gambit if the midterms go really really poorly for the dems.
karen marie
@James E. Powell: Scott Brown or some other douchenozzle, exactly. Kerry is reasonable, has seniority and institutional knowledge.
