The inexplicably still employed Jennifer Rubin, on the utter failure of GOP SuperPACs:
Excuse me, the guy who backed Akin and who masterminded the anti-Bain smear film on behalf of Newt Gingrich is lecturing the rest of the conservative movement on being a constructive fundraising force? Puleez. Was there any more destructive force for conservatives in the 2012 general race than Akin or in the primary race by the anti-capitalist feeding frenzy Tyler championed? At least Rove acted in good faith for the promotion of conservative candidates and ideas. As one conservative insider put it to me, “The question isn’t whether Crossroads made any difference, but rather whether the investment could have been better utilized in smarter fashion.”
I’m going to need Lt. Commander Data here to scan for Irony. There isn’t any here in this quadrant.

The answer to your question, Jennifer, is you. Jennifer Rubin. Personally. By being an unpaid shill, multiple times a day for the Romney administration while on the payroll of a one of the nation’s largest newspapers. Your existence is such an astonishingly damaging and rancid conflict of interest that the Post should be breaking land speed records getting your useless ass out the door. You sold the propaganda that Romney was winning without hesitation. Clearly, you’re part of the problem.
And as much as I’d like to see you continue to bamboozle stupid conservatives with your own repellent fantasies of punditry, you really ought to be doing so back at Commentary or Newsmax or American Thinker or whatever conservative hellhole you crawled out of rather than the Washington Post.
Get thee hence.

That’s an awful lot of valuable WaPo Op-ed page real estate for someone with barely two brain cells to bang together.
Maybe she’s got pictures of Fred Hiatt and some barnyard animals?
Or, maybe even more degrading – him banging Charles Krauthammer!
Alison
God, seriously. I’m starting to wonder what exactly she would have to do to get canned.
Maybe if she had an affair with Eric Fehrnstrom or something?
Ew.
El Cid
It can’t possibly be her fault, or anyone who hires her, or anyone who publishes her, or anyone who asks her on for commentary and analysis for broadcast, because all of those are nice, productive, wealthy, high-class people with the right kinds of concerns and an excellent peer group and contact network, and the people who cause problems are weird, improperly loud, often are either low class or exhibit lower class behaviors.
Suffern ACE
Quibble. Why are you so sure she was an unpaid shill? No one likes Romney that much unless they are paid to like him.
El Cid
@Suffern ACE: Perhaps, but she didn’t have to get paid directly to be informed that if she did so it would get her money and rewards from some chosen set or sets of conservative and Romney allies. I’m not alleging that she’s necessarily clever enough and humble enough to make sure to be so careful about it all, just that it could happen that way.

@Suffern ACE:
I came here to ask a similar question.
Zifnab25
:-p Destructive for the country? Absolutely. Destructive for *conservatives*? No. She’s a major boon for conservatives, and a perfect example of “money well spent” by Koch. Her existence is subsidized by WaPo subscribers, rather than pay-rolled directly out of donors’ pockets. Her pieces are reliable as the sun rising in the east, while maintaining the illusion of impartiality within an allegedly neutral source. And she manages to pump out her propaganda without red-flagging herself by saying something asinine about how wonderful a gift from God rape can be.
The conservative movement needs propagandists to function. Rubin fills the role marvelously. Guys like Akin could take away a lot from her act. I think its foolish to believe FOX is a problem for the right. It’s an essential component of their operations.
Yes, it’s a double-bladed sword. No, the higher-ups shouldn’t be drinking their own kool-aid. And I enjoy schadenfreude as much as the next guy, but let’s be real here. No one would have given Romney a second glance without propagandists like this. The reason he got 48% and not 28%? Jen Rubin / David Brooks / Megyn Kelly / Rush Limbaugh / etc.

“Rove acted in good faith?” Words truly fail.

I always imagine her doodling “JR + MR” surrounded by little hearts on her reporter’s notebook.
Comrade Jake
ICYMI, brutal take-down of Rubin here.

I don’t see what the problem is. A bunch of billionaires put their faith in the free market to deliver an election and it failed spectacularly. So much so, that said billionaires are now demanding more government regulation to bail them out.
Someone who buys ink by the gallon ought to point that out.

I was a little worried reading the article, since it seemed like she had an idea in refocusing PACs toward targeting stronger candidates in marginal races and away from carpet-bombing the shit out of media channels in order to prop up dodgy candidates, but now I’m left wondering whether the candidates were actually strong or whether their districts had simply been gerrymandered beyond anybody’s ability to influence, which would cut the number of races that money from their end could actually influence.
ETA: Rrgh, but wouldn’t the gerrymandering open up more marginal races in nominally Democratic areas? If one district went from +0 to +2.5 R, then another could go from +2.5 D to +0.

Rubin is just another in a looong line of unpaid Israeli agents working the U.S.Press and public.
SenyorDave
Thank FSM that I canceled Kaplan a couple years back before Rubin was hired. I canceled in protest over the hiring of Marc Thiessen, who I still think was a worse hire. He’s probably more professional and sharper than Rubin (is there a lower bar in Journalism?) , but he should be sitting in a prison cell in The Hague awaiting trial for Crimes Against Humanity for his role in torture.
Bill E Pilgrim
Quibble: the Washington Post and her were made for each other.
I know she’s the worst, I would agree with that, but this is the newspaper that’s had as opinion writers on an ongoing basis no less than two speechwriters from George W Bush’s staff, and that’s in addition to Krauthammer, George Will, and Robert Kagan, and then a whole raft of less virulent but nearly as conservative writers like Diehl and Samuelson and on and on.
They “balance” this with people like Ruth Marcus, who writes things like this, not only not shilling for the Democratic party or the left wing of it but acting as resident concern troll, and then to be fair they do have one or two actual Democrats and even a fairly progressive one here and there.
The place is a right-wing organ, for the most part, so she’s really not such a shift, just somewhat more blatant.
Spaghetti Lee
Whine some more, Rubin, you stupid git. You wanna talk about schadenfreude? Watching the World’s Most Dishonest Political Writer tear her hair out and blame everyone in firing range over her fake-husband Mitt Romney losing is all the schad I need.
mdblanche
I don’t see why you’re being so hard on Rubin. She’s doing her job to the best of her abilities under very trying conditions.
And yet they’re not. Think about it.

I think Jennifer Rubin continues her tenure on the pages of the Washington Post as a sort of perverse application of the principle of “Freedom of the Press”. Sort of the way we have to tolerate the Westboro Baptist Church as an expression of “Freedom of Religion”…

Remember that Jennifer Rubin got that gig with WaPo after they canned Dave Weigel – a genuine and ethical journalist, whatever else you may think of him – in response to wingnut screeching about a ginned-up nontroversy (JournoList).
So Rubin is doing exactly what WaPo hired her to do: telling the wingnuts whatever they want to hear.
Her employment is secure.
Punchy
I love it that Republican clowns like J-Rube tsk-tsk the Akin’s of the world for speaking their mind, rather than having those fucked up thoughts to begin with.
I dont remember any columns she wrote that showed her support for Claire McCaskill….

@Jay C:
But we already have WorldNetDaily and the Washingon Times for that kind of thing.

Hmm, so according to Rubin, Karl Rove may have wasted shit-loads of money and done all kind of damage, but it’s okay cause his heart was pure. Got it.

That’s what I was thinking. In response to all the winger’s whining, screeching, and carrying on, they gave them Rubin. If they choose to read her and believe her, well… Plus she increases their on-line traffic enormously.

@Bill E Pilgrim: Reading ‘Master of the Senate’ right now & back then (1956 – 1957), the owners of the Post were major players in the Liberal wing of the Democratic party. Really sad how the paper has fallen.
