    Go Patriots.

    Amir Khalid says:

    Liverpool FC needs better defenders and more strikers. Kenny Dalglish wasted his transfer windows on players who weren’t up to the job; Brendan Rodgers and the ownership somehow failed to see the need to go aggressively after better ones even if meant paying a bit over the odds. The result? Liverpool is dominating marches only to come away with one point or even none. And it’s languishing in the lower half of the English Premier League. Feh.

  5. 5
    cathyx says:

    @Ken: Then they probably won’t lose.

  6. 6
    Geoduck says:

    @cathyx: Probably. With some teams you never know.

    Even though none of you know me, will anyone join me in rooting for the Falcons to lose to the Saints just to minimize the chances of having to listen to an interview with a member of the ’72 Dolphins?

    Mr Stagger Lee says:

    It looks like the Good Bengals team is beating the Giants..Wait.. FUMBLE, the Bengals recovered. Who knows which Bengals team shows up, next time. At least the Browns have a bye… Please FSM let the Seahawks crush the Jets!!!

    @Geoduck: Browns are so bad, they may still lose on a bye week.

  14. 14

    @Mnemosyne: Maybe it’s John’s turn to visit the ‘ladyfriend’.

  15. 15
    Hill Dweller says:

    @Patricia Kayden: That hypocritical cockroach doesn’t give two shits about Fox viewers. Luntz is pretending to be objective because he has a gig at CBS now.

    Jerzy Russian says:

    It looks like the Broncos are on their way to victory, and the Chargers and Raiders are on their way to defeat. This has been a good day so far.

  17. 17
    Villago Delenda Est says:

    OK, this is all yesterday and all, but the fighting fashion nightmares are #1 in the AP poll. We’ll have to see what the BCS says, of course, but if the fighting fashion nightmares don’t screw up, the still mythical national championship is theirs to lose, now.

  18. 18
    The prophet Nostradumbass says:

    How about those Raiders? Yikes.

  19. 19
    Yutsano says:

    @Villago Delenda Est: This might come down to the Civil War. I may have to check if that’s Thanksgiving weekend, because if so I might be able to watch it.

    Jerzy Russian says:

    The Panthers just gave up a safety and Rivers just tossed an interception. Is it wrong of me to be enjoying this as much as I am right now?

    @Baud: My dog is hiding thanks to who dat…

  23. 23
    JPL says:

    @Baud: btw.. I wasn’t chanting who dat in case you haven’t figured that out. . .

  24. 24
    Baud says:

    @JPL:

    You’re in GA, right? You guys are having a magical year. To hand the Falcons their first defeat after the year we’re having was HUGE.

  25. 25
    JPL says:

    @Baud: The Saints are a great team but they haven’t played like one. Today they played like one.
    Turner was ineffective at 3 and short but I hope that was because of the Saints awesome defense.

    @JPL:

    Our defense has been our Achilles heel all year, so I’m happy for them that they had a chance to redeem themselves today.

    Frapalinger says:

    It’s hate week here in Philadelphia and no one even cares. I’m actually rooting for the eagles to lose, we need to lose out, get rid of andy and get a good draft pick.

  33. 33
    Corner Stone says:

    @Frapalinger: The problem for the rest of us is, who do we want to lose more?
    I mean, I think I want the Cowboy’s to beat the Iggles. But then that means the Cowboys would have won a game.
    Sometimes it’s not fair.

  34. 34
    Schlemizel says:

    @Corner Stone:

    Sort of like the Cowboys playing the 9ers, who do you root for? Me? I pray for a meteor

    Temporarily Max McGee (soon enough to be Andy K again) says:

    @JPL:

    The Saints are a great OFFENSIVE team but they haven’t played like one.

    That defense, though, is middling when it’s at its best. It’s got big holes and no depth. Sure, they gave up under 50 yds. on the ground today, but Ryan took ’em for 411 yds. through the air. Chalk this win up to playing the chief rival at home.

  38. 38
    Corner Stone says:

    @Schlemizel: There are only a couple teams I despise enough for meteor status.
    Cowboys and Iggles both qualify.

  39. 39
    Temporarily Max McGee (soon enough to be Andy K again) says:

    @Corner Stone:

    The Vikes. My hatred for the Cowboys used to rank up there, too, but it abated when Parcells was the coach in Dallas.

  40. 40
    Roger Moore says:

    @JPL:

    The Saints are a great team but they haven’t played like one.

    This is one of the dumbest sports cliches around. Greatness is measured on the field. If you can go half a season without playing like a great team, you aren’t one. You may have a great collection of talent, but you’re not a great team.

  41. 41
    Corner Stone says:

    I’m kind of enjoying Carolina’s super squishy slide ride. In some form of schaden or other.
    Any time Cam makes the chest reveal “Superman” move someone should punch him in the junk.

  42. 42
    Corner Stone says:

    @Temporarily Max McGee (soon enough to be Andy K again): I don’t hate the Cowboys, or any team. But they’re living off something from the ’90s at this point. How many .500 records can you have and playoff losses before someone just tells you that you really aren’t very good.

  43. 43

    Would really like to see the Eagles win with Foles at QB.

  44. 44
    Schlemizel says:

    @Temporarily Max McGee:

    How could anyone hate the incompetent clown car that is the MN Vikings? I could see hating an outfit that had denied the Pack some glory but the VIKINGS?

    BTW – I’m more of a Jerry Kramer fan, any idea how he and/or Max are doing? They have to be getting up there for NFL vets

  45. 45
    Cassidy says:

    @StarStorm: And you felt the need to go into a thread clearly labeled football to let people know that.

  46. 46
    Steeplejack says:

    @LCS:

    Crisis averted.

  47. 47
    Temporarily Max McGee (soon enough to be Andy K again) says:

    @Schlemizel:

    Max died in ’07. Fell off the roof while leaf-blowing. I’m pretty sure he died instantly- no lingering in ICU- so that was good.

    I see Kramer pop up on tv from time to time. He shows up at Lambeau on alumni day. He seems to be doing alright for a guy who’s 76 and played in the NFL.

    My hatred for the Vikes goes back to my childhood, when they dominated the division. Once they retire, I usually have good things to say about most of the players. However, I’ll go on record and say that I love Chris Kluwe, who’s still active. Great guy there.

    Holy smokes, Nick Foles is an actual QB. Wonder if I should grab him in my fantasy league.

  50. 50
    Steeplejack says:

    @James E. Powell:

    Seconded. Bonus: Dallas loses.

  51. 51
    Mr Stagger Lee says:

    @Corner Stone: I wish Jerry Jones would learn from Eddie DeBartolo Jr. the former 49ers owner let for your football guys run the team,win then you could show your face on TV. That is why I enjoy the pain of the Dallas Cowboys. And it must hurt that it is now the Houston Texans winning the heart of Texas.

  52. 52
    Schlemizel says:

    @Mr Stagger Lee:

    I am sooooooo happy that Jerry Jones ego is so inflated that he can’t stand the thought the team might be successful unless he can claim credit. Given his total incompetence it pretty much insure the cowboys will not be successful. Unless he can find a bigger idiot (and Mike Lynn is dead so its gonna be hard to find someone THAT stupid) They can soak in well earned karma and mediocrity.

  53. 53
    Mr Stagger Lee says:

    @Villago Delenda Est: I’m shocked it is Oregon #1 and Kansas State #2 in the AP I thought the big guys wanted Notre Dame #1, probably ESPN will arrange that in the BCS.

  54. 54
    Schlemizel says:

    @Temporarily Max McGee:

    Gee, thats too bad about Max, he seemed like a decent guy.

    Did you know that Kramer shot himself with a shotgun when he was a kid? How that guy has lived this long is really something. Tough as nails.

    I had a distant cousin who played for GB back when it was really a part-time gig (he was a truck driver most of the year) He quit when St. Vincent became the coach, seems he expected then to show up relatively sober & actually work!

  55. 55
    catclub says:

    @Roger Moore: They kept up the streak of giving up 400+ yards by the defense! Not many great teams can claim a streak like that.

    @Steeplejack: I knew I could count on you.

  64. 64
    Temporarily Max McGee (soon enough to be Andy K again) says:

    @Schlemizel:

    I don’t recall the particulars, but when Kramer was a kid, he was involved in some sort of explosion He was either working construction or he and his buddies had found some dynamite…Either way, they were just dicking around, blew up a shed…Years later, during his career (but in the off-season) he’s having surgery related to some G.I. tract problem, and the surgeon removes these huge splinters from his abdomen. The splinters are on display at the Packer Hall of Fame.

    As for your cousin…Yeah, the culture was beginning to change around the league at that time. Lombardi had been there at ground zero in the ’50s as so many of the Giants were getting national endorsement deals. It was in their best financial interests to keep it clean in their personal lives if they wanted to hang on to their endorsement deals. As they partied less, they practiced and played better.

    So Lombardi imported that culture of temperance ot the Packers. But he wasn’t an abolitionist. While he’d crack the whip on guys he thought required more discipline- guys like Kramer and Nitschke- there were others Lombardi figured would react negatively to the discipline, so he just let ’em do what they’d do as long as those guys were discrete. Hornung and McGee were at the head of that group.

    I have yet to read Maraniss’ biography of Lombardi, so I don’t know if he addressed it there, but that’s what Niotschke told my dad. Much more to Lombardi’s approach than the conventional wisdom has it.

  65. 65
    Corner Stone says:

    I really don’t like the Cowboys, or any of their fans. But the Iggles and their fans make me want to turn my launch key at the same time as my gay porn partner to set that big MoFo off.
    This is a struggle. I can’t wait for the Sunday Night game. Faith Hill, where are you and your impossibly short skirt when I need you!?

    Russell Wilson!!!! Beast Mode!!!! The Legion of Boom!!

  67. 67
    Mr Stagger Lee says:

    @Temporarily Max McGee (soon enough to be Andy K again): Read the book it is very good, one thing to remember about Lombardi and his coaching stint with the Giants it also featured Tom Landry as the defensive coordinator, you think the Giants would many NFL championships but there many good teams that decade.(50’s)

  68. 68
    Steeplejack says:

    @Corner Stone:

    “Take Me as I Am” is a great song. I don’t know why she repudiated it. (Doesn’t appear on her greatest hits.) Oh, Faith, why? Why?!

  69. 69
    Temporarily Max McGee (soon enough to be Andy K again) says:

    @Mr Stagger Lee:

    Oh yeah, great Giants’ teams. Nice that most of the core players got their rings for the ’56 championship. That run, whether they won rings or not, from ’56 to ’63 still amazes me.

    Go Steelers, tomorrow. Ravens clobbered Raiders, including a trick play where the Ravens punter/holder Sam Koch does a fake field goal and scores a TD!!! Lot of high scoring games today and finally the Falcons lost. Now they can relax and continue to play just barely well enough to keep winning.
