I’m way behind on this news, but I don’t want the debate coverage to eclipse the fact that Dinesh D’Souza, noted fundagelical racist, was introducing a woman 23 years his junior (he’s 51) as his “fiancée” even though he was still married at the time. D’Souza also stayed in the same hotel room as the woman while he was traveling, but no worries people, “nothing happened”. His new girlfriend, Odie Joseph II, is a defender of traditional marriage:
D’Souza styles himself as a fierce defender of marriage against gays and lesbians and it appears that Odie Joseph II, seen here with D’Souza’s new book, also has strong views on marriage, cohabitation and divorce. In a post on a conservative blog, she rails against feminists and “RINO men” for ruining marriage and traditional morality. “Feminists/liberals who intended to destroy and transform that sacred cornerstone of American society—the traditional family” she explains, adding that today’s state of the family proves that “the 19th Amendment was never the best idea ever.” She blames feminist academics for increases in adultery, failed marriages and cohabitation, and even goes on to say that America’s children “are going the way of black ghetto society” thanks to feminists and Ke$ha.
The second Odie Joseph is a bit like good old Tagg Romney. It’s only adultery, or lying, when some despicable blah or liberal does it. We should lock those fucking feminists up so there are enough spare rooms at the Days Inn for her to use whenever she and Dinesh want to have a long, hard, sweaty session of doing nothing.

I do believe Mr. D’Souza will pay a price for this. Remember Randall Terry from Operation Rescue? He, too, openly dumped his wife of many years for a younger model, and his support pretty much collapsed after that.
If you’re a fundie leader, you don’t have to avoid sins of the flesh. But you do have to be discreet about it.

Seeing as how conservative D’Souza is, I’m a little surprised he wasn’t sleeping with another man.

Cool! I’m a feminist academic — I had no idea I was so powerful…

He serves a very important function: he writes in complete sentences and uses academic words while skimming the gutters of the political world for stories that can percolate up through the Right Wing Noise Machine. He did not make money by being a personality, but by writing stuff that the personalities can use in their shows. he gets his money from the the institutions and perhaps speaking. As for the speaking, just ask Ralph Reed about the fatality of moral transgressions. He is going nowhere

Fixed, right? Am I missing something, or didn’t she just:
A) Sleep in a hotel with a man to whom she’s not married (cohab)
B) Said man was married at the time (adultery)
C) Said man is getting divorced (failed marriage)
A trifecta of hypocrisy. A Tripocrisy.

@Mardam: In pre-feminist days, Dinesh would be unfaithfully married to his first wife forever while Queen Odie II would be a fallen woman, a whore, with no career option other than straight-up prostitution once her married lover grew tired of her.

@Mark B.: maybe she is his current wife who went to the future years ago, only now to return in the form of his young wife so that it was not adultery at all, but the result of time dilation effects, thus the fault of Albert Einstein, a noted godless commie liberal. Q.E.D.

@comrade scott’s agenda of rage: Whole different context here. D’Souza has been making money off credulous evangelicals lately. This is not the leadership that does whatever it wants, but discreetly. It is the foot soldiers of the movement who actually believe their leaders are pure and sinless. They are proven wrong all the time, but in evangelical land they never cease being outraged. D’Souza’s in real danger of becoming toast with then.

Hilarious response from Mr. DSouza on the Fox news site.
I sought out advice about whether it is legal to be engaged prior to being divorced and I was informed that it is. Denise and I were trying to do the right thing. I had no idea that it is considered wrong in Christian circles to be engaged prior to being divorced, even though in a state of separation and in divorce proceedings. Obviously I would not have introduced Denise as my fiancé at a Christian apologetics conference if I had thought or known I was doing something wrong. But as a result of all this, and to avoid even the appearance of impropriety, Denise and I have decided to suspend our engagement.

“Haha!” say liberals, delighted to catch another family-values conservative in a blatant act of hypocrisy. Colbert and Stewart do nothing but this every night. What we don’t seem to realize is that this NEVER HAS ANY EFFECT WHATSOEVER. There is no price to be paid on the right for hypocrisy, it’s the coin of the realm. As Altemeyer’s “The Authoritarians” points out, what these folks SAY to their followers and in public is much, much more important than what they actually DO, and if you mouth the right phrases in public you can do whatever you want on the downlow (or even the semi-up) and nobody on the right will mind in the least.

I remain in the Cargo (#34) camp on this, particularly in light of D’Souza’s “explanation” and backpeddling. It’s the usual “beseech for forgiveness” and in this case plead a little ignorance. Of course it’s hysterical that his words make it clear he considers himself a non-Christian so I wonder if the American Taliban will pick up on that and ask themselves why they’re listening to someone who’s clearly a heathen (and brown skinned on top of that).

I have never understood the conservative hate and loathing for the concept of cohabitation. Maybe it’s just my practical side, but when my wife and I moved in together when we started dating the next 5 years weren’t some drunken hedonistic debauchery. It was two people who liked eachother figuring out if we could live together for the rest of our lives. As far as I’m concerned if you’re going to sign a contract a dame a vow that states “as long as you both shall live” you should sure as fuck know if you can live up to the deal.

Michelle Goldberg highlights the passage from D’Souza’s book on Obama where he maliciously trashes the President’s mother (and note also his apparent reference for pint-sized women):
“D’Souza argues that part of the reason Ann Dunham sent Obama to live with her parents in Hawaii was so she could pursue affairs with Indonesian men. “Ann’s sexual adventuring may seem a little surprising in view of the fact that she was a large woman who kept getting larger,” he writes. On the next page, he continues, “Learning about Ann’s sexual adventures in Indonesia, I realized how wrong I had been to consider Barack Obama Sr. the playboy … Ann … was the real playgirl, and despite all her reservations about power, she was using her American background and economic and social power to purchase the romantic attention of third-world men.”
There is no evidence for any of this—D’Souza mentions the name of exactly one man who Dunham had a relationship with after her divorce.”

The weird things is that I don’t even really want to see these asswipes get fucked (metaphorically, or literally– ewww). It isn’t that I want to see them disgraced and cast aside, though I’ll fess up here that it would be satisfying in a way. But that isn’t really the point. Nothing really worthwhile ever comes of that.
No,what I’d really like to see is for these dickwads to learn a little humility and maybe find some self-awareness. I’d like to believe that these people have it in them to grow a little bit, that they might understand what two-faced lives they’ve led, and maybe try to become better people and spend a little less time shrieking about the motes in other people’s eyes. I’d like to see them understand that they might have been wrong about some things and feel a little healthy shame. And if you’re a little bitter and angry and feel like you’d like a little vengeance–and I do feel that way–then it seems like what I outlined above woould really be the best punishment of all for these turds. And, even better, it’s punishment that has some likelihood of bringing these people some redemption.
