Update from commentor Freemark:
Natasha’s doing well. My vet said its better to wait until she’s 6 months old before spaying, but it’s set up. She passed her physical no internal parasites and FIV negative. She was underweight and had ear mites but both those things are being taken care of. I included a pic of the doc checking her out. No she isn’t choking her :).
Natasha is using her litter box only if I put it where she wants, and she wants a place that I have to contort to reach. I’ll be using WereBear’s advice to get that sorted out, I hope.
Make sure everyone has my and Natasha’s thanks. Her and my new life wouldn’t have happened without them.
p.s. Haven’t gotten her to play yet, but I’ll work on that too.

Miss Skinny Kitty has new friends:
Hey, it’s me, TRex. Here’s a photo of me and Miss Kitty and her new mom, Meredith, aka Coffeeshopchic. Thought you guys would enjoy it. Her name is now Tavi and she’s perking up considerably.

And Suprina writes that Sunshine has her forever home:
we found sunshine a purrrfect home with a retired couple who has no other animals, and her 2 lovely kittens were adopted together by a great woman who will love them forever!
Thanks for all your help with this — because of you these things happen!!!
One little life at a time… you guys are the best.
Jules
Excuse me, I seem to have something in my eyes…

Thank you so much for the update. Always wonder what happened to all the kittys. I am so happy when something good happens to the innocent.
WereBear
Yay! I am so happy for everyone and their new kitties.
Sometimes, you just don’t know you really wanted a kitty to make your life complete, so the Universe comes up with one for you. :)

Oh, Yay! I’m glad for all of them, but Sunshine has been haunting me . . . .

Wonderful news for all! And here’s another shout-out to Trex–miss your blog.

Hooray for good news! Thanks for the updates!

Awww, that’s great! So happy for all the kitties and new kitty parents. That top picture of Natasha is hilarious. She has this slight furrowed brow that says, “What’s happening to me? It’s not all bad, but I better not see this picture on Balloon-Juice.”
raven
Two dogs waiting for a ride!

@raven:
Adorbs!
And I’m very happy about all the rescue kittehs.

yay! such lovely happy kitties.
the recent photo of natasha looked so much like our dear departed rescue cat, The Duke of Earl, who was the most lovey cat in the entire universe. (i even showed my daughter, and her immediate reaction was that it WAS a photo of “my boy.”)
Mnemosyne
Yay kitties! So glad B-J could help them all find new homes.
Freemark, the best advice I can give you as a new cat owner is to figure out what kind of scratcher your cat prefers (some cats like vertical, some cats like horizontal) and then praise her EVERY time she uses it. That way, you can simultaneously save your furniture and reinforce for her that if she wants attention from you, she can do something positive (scratch where she’s supposed to) instead of doing something negative. Sometimes if we scold our cats for doing something they’re not supposed to do (like jump on the kitchen counter), they’ll run over to the scratching post and start scratching away because they know we have to stop scolding and praise them instead. Calculating little monsters. :-)

@raven: Which one is driving?
Any yay

And yay! for kitties finding their forever homes.
Also, FYWP.

@Mnemosyne:
Tell me you found a sweater or jacket for the party. I was thinking of that today. It’s no fun to be mierable because your arms are cold.
It is quite something that the kitties have been placed and are happy. We come for the gloom and gloom and stay for the happy.
Kristine
Yay! for happy kitty news.
Mnemosyne
@Maude:
I did find one, but it turned out that the little wool shawlette I had knitted was up to the task of keeping me warm, so I ended up not needing the jacket after all.
Ironically, it turned out that the look I decided on ((fake) black leather motorcycle jacket with black party dress) was the same one a lot of other women had decided on, so I ended up looking more individual with my shawlette.

Hey, that’s TRex!

Honestly its these things that just make me love this blog… shows the people that read/contribute are good people.
MazeDancer
So wonderful to have these updates. Such delights to hear.
Much happiness to all the new kitty homes.
PurpleGirl
@Mnemosyne: Yay. Congratulations on a successful outfit and look.
The shawl is quite nice. I like the shaping. Crochet patterns are using that raglan shaping and it works so well to drape the shawl.
Poopyman
Hey! That’s TRex! Dude got me addicted to snarky blogs, he did. Glad to see he’s doing well. I’d been worried for a while.
Now I’m just concerned about fourlegsgood’s whereabouts. She drops by here on occasion, but not lately.
And OF COURSE yay! for happy kitties. A rescued cat always means happy(er) hoomans.
kathy a.
@Mnemosyne: great advice about the scratcher! we use inexpensive ones with cardboard inserts, and sprinkle with catnip for that extra attraction.
not all cats like the same kinds of playing. so, for natasha, you might try a variety of inexpensive toys: small balls (with bells inside, or golf balls, or ping pong balls); those little animals with catnip inside; dragging a ribbon around, with a bit of a jerky motion; small flashlight in a dark room; tossing small wads of paper; etc. a lot of cats like those feathers on sticks. you can tell your cat is feeling at home when she starts stealing things to play with (receipts; smelly sox; paper clips; earrings; sometimes eyeglasses).
Mnemosyne
@kathy a.:
As far as Keaton is concerned, the Best Toy Ever is a crumpled-up Netflix envelope. (Or, actually, the coupon that you pull off (and that we never use) before mailing it back.) So, yes, you don’t know what your cat’s toy preference will be until suddenly they decide they like one.
I think the feather on a stick is as close as you can get to a universal toy, but there’s variation even there.
TaMara (BHF)
Oh that is all such good news. Yay!
freemark
Thanks everyone. Good thing I have a computer hooked up to my TV in the bedroom. Natasha’s sleeping between/on my legs so I am rendered immobile at the moment.

@freemark:
And Natasha is a great name for a cat. We have Sasha and did have her late, much lamented sister Masha.
Jane2
How fabulous for all kitties and their servants! I see Natasha has assumed her spot as queen of everything.
Mnemosyne
@freemark:
I think she’s decided to keep you. :-)
Allen
@kathy a.: I had a cat just loved the small super ball. Would play fetch with me, after some high speed chasing of said super ball.

Love these updates. Thanks.

It’s nice to see TRex again. His blog was one of my first places to go to in the morning when I logged on a couple of years back.
I miss you TRex. Get blogging again man. We need you.

My rescue cat loves, loves her some golf balls

I love happy endings. Thanks so much for letting us know.

Three cheers for kittehs finding their furever homes! Three more for the kind humans!
WaterGirl
@freemark: Yay for you guys and Natasha!
Can I just add that my friend who’s a vet told me that ribbons are really bad for cats, if they eat them they can shred their insides. Not sure if that’s only true for the kind of ribbons you can curl with scissors, or all ribbons. But now I am very careful with ribbons!
WaterGirl
Forget the coy “there’s something in my eyes” for me …
Sunshine has been haunting me since the day Anne Laurie first posted about her, and I burst into tears with relief when I read that Sunshine had found a home.

Some cats like to chase laser pointer light spots around the room. Be careful not to use too strong a laser or to let the kitteh look into the light emitter!
Once she’s pretty sure where the next meal is coming from, and when, she will lighten up!
Joy!
