Some music:
Heard that tonight, and basically laughed, because I have been listening to this album for decades, yet every time I hear it I think of Wayne’s World the movie, in which they insisted that Frampton Comes Alive is issued in every suburb- “It came in the mail with samples of ‘Tide.'”

I don’t want to talk about the debates or how Obama is doing in this thread.

When I was a kid I heard the lines “Woke up with a wine glass in my hand. Whose wine, what wine, where the hell did I dine?” from an older kid on the school bus and I said to myself, shit, I have to find out where that’s from.
Not from the suburbs, btw. Fuck that.

For anyone who has the chance to see The National Theatre of Scotland’s production of Black Watch, I HIGHLY recommend you see it. Saw it tonight and I was blown away. Just amazing.
Here is the web site:
http://www.nationaltheatrescotland.com/content/default.asp?page=home_BlackWatch2012
It’s coming to Seattle in April of 2013 and San Fran in May of 2013.
It’s an astonishing piece of theater on war.
Yutsano
@Cain: How bout them Blazers?
(too soon?)
@BGinCHI: I. AM. SO. THERE!!

The first time I ever got stoned was my first week of college, August 1998. My friends and I smoked a bowl, then went to the campus movie theater, where they were showing Wayne’s World to a packed house. Under the influence, it was even more hilarious. The entire theater sang along to Bohemian Rhapsody, and I fell asleep about ten minutes later.
What a great flick.
BGinCHI
@Yutsano: Dude, trust me on this one. You have to see this! Money back guarantee. It’s playing in so few places it’s lucky you can go (and same here).
I’m still wired from seeing it.
BGinCHI
@suzanne: If you didn’t bring enough pot for everyone in the thread we can’t hear you.

@BGinCHI: I can’t decide whether the look on my face after reading that article says I just stepped in dog poop barefoot or I just smelled something really bad.
I’m sure I am a bad person for thinking those people are too stupid to live.

@WaterGirl: I assume they don’t believe in evolution.
Which is fair, because obviously evolution doesn’t believe in them.

Does anyone else get ads for “Atlas Shrugged II”? I’m kind of chuckling over the idea that John Galt is helping to cover the BJ tab.

@BGinCHI: I’ll bring my big sassy gay friend from work too. He used to act down in Hollywood then decided being an actual human mattered.
suzanne
@BGinCHI: LOL, sorry. I haven’t done that in a while. Too damn long, actually.

Finished my five weeks of Cogmed tonight. Yay! Supposedly I have improved my working memory by 77% and my math skills by 40%. Not really seeing it, but the computer tells me so.
Now I can turn back to the knotty problem of figuring out if I have a jacket or sweater I can wear over my sleeveless dress to what turns out to be a nighttime OUTDOOR party tomorrow night. And 60 degrees at night is suprisingly frickin’ cold in Southern California.

This is what it’s come to folks. Taken today at a R/R campaign event. Nobody there asked them to leave. Media turned a blind eye.

@BGinCHI: I saw what you did there. Nice.
@WaterGirl:
If only it were so. Unfortunately many of these little homegrown goopers possess a certain animal cunning that often allows them to survive against all odds to adulthood. That’s how we ended up with the Tea Party.
The only good news is that in later life at least 1 or 2 of them will probably win a Darwin Award in some spectacular fashion and we’ll end up getting an entertaining YouTube video out of it.
WaterGirl
@Mnemosyne: You may remember that my sister has ADD… So I would be interested in hearing whether you feel a difference as time goes on. I am also wondering how much it costs before I mention anything to my sister.
Mnemosyne
@WaterGirl:
I’ll tell you up front that it’s expensive — my fee was around $1400, but people online have said that they’ve paid up to $1700. I was willing to pay the money because my doctor thought I was a good candidate for it, so your sister should definitely talk to a professional before shelling out the money.
The one change I think I’ve seen is that I feel like I’m a little less impulsive since I started, but maybe that’s because I’ve been doing Cogmed for 45 minutes a day and that’s cut into my online shopping time. :-) We shall see.

Watching “The Great Outdoors” with John Candy (RIP) and Dan Aykroyd.
Romney =/= Roman.

I’m not stoned right now. But I’m listening to Shine On You Crazy Diamond, so I might as well be. Kind of bummed about the Nats. When my White Sox aren’t in it, I root for teams that haven’t been to the WS in a while. Now every team left has been there at least once since 2006. DULLSVILLE.
WaterGirl
@Mnemosyne: Wow, that’s a ton of money. Sadly, they wouldn’t even be able to consider it.
I hope it ends up working for you!

It was neat seeing the Shuttle Endeavour out in Westchester and Inglewood today.

@Spaghetti Lee:
Would have loved to see ‘Nati advance since it’s been a while and that’s really a good baseball town. As for DC, hey we’re still basically talking about the Expos here so that was destined not to happen.
I wouldn’t mind a Cards-Tigers rematch from a few years ago, with Detroit getting some revenge. Beats seeing Texas again (a team I loathe) and the FTFY.

@BGinCHI:
Yes, what you said. It’s quite beautiful, gut wrenching, very sad and has hot boys. I haven’t been caught up so much in a piece of theatre for many years.

Shit I’ve bought Frampton Comes Alive 3 times. Vinyl, the first CD & the new Deluxe Edition CD. I’m a sucker for them like that but I will say the sound on the Deluxe Edition is much better than the original CD. Not touchin’ the vinyl is better than CD or not. OK, I’ll touch it. On a good system a fresh vinyl is better than the original release CD. But not as good as the de. Unless you can get vinyl in the MFSL half speed master stuff. That kings anything.

I hereby order Sgt. Cole to add “Home of the Old ’96er” as a subtag a la “Han Shot First” Or “The Revolution will be Supervised.”

My mom and I watched the Great Outdoors on the Disney channel or something once when I was a kid and they changed “blow it out your ass” to “blow it out your kazoo”

I’m visiting friends in the Santa Barbara area, and we just got back from dinner at McLintock’s in Pismo Beach. I recommend it to all non-vegetarians. Awesome place.

@Spaghetti Lee: Montreal baseball fans are feeling a bit of schadenfreude? I would think so.

Saw Framptom Iin Charleston SC about two years ago. His voice is still great, and he’s funny as hell to boot.

Okay, I know some people said no poll talk…
But the RAND tracking poll has swung back strongly in a pro-Obama direction today. Obama gained a little over a point. Since this poll recontacts the same set of voters, there are no statistical fluctuations from sampling.

@blingee: Go to Buzzfeed and you can read how some people say the guy was a “liberal plant.”

Since this is an open thread and I’m awake too early, I am just going to announce that from here on out, if I don’t like your position, and I really don’t want to engage you in a debate over the issue at hand, I will be accusing you of “a cult-like devotion to (x).”
I realize that this may be contra-indicated by actual evidence, but it is much easier and will save me a lot of time.

Or something like that.Suffern Ace
@arguingwithsignposts: Ok. But only if I can respond by implying that your position is obviously based on some kind of unusual sex fetish.

@WaterGirl:
That’s their evolutionary strategy, breed like roaches and use the law of averages. If ya can’t do quality, go with quantity.
To topic: Funny enough I’ve been watching the very same clip for the past week to try to nick a couple of the chords. That lead me to a recent Frampton clip. The man still has it, but the buzz cut, potbelly and hunch/hump (that’s what ya get for lugging a goddamn Les Paul around for 40 years) has him looking a bit like Churchill.
blingee
@Death Panel Truck: Yawn….buzzfeed….what else needs to be said.
At this point anyone who still thinks this is happening because of the debate needs a slap in the face. You can’t tell me all the gaffes, Clint talking to the empty chair, all the assholery, Rmoney caught on tape calling 47% of Americans moochers, going overseas and making a fool of himself, saying his solution to healthcare is to go to the emergency room, all the lies and flip flops. You can’t tell me all that is suddenly forgotten because Obama maybe came off a bit flat at the debate.
There is something else going on here and it’s not going to be fixed by another debate. One thing I have heard is all the strong support Obama was getting from women has suddenly evaporated and that it was always soft to begin with. God only knows what they are thinking because nothing anyone has said or done recently should have changed their opinion on any of the issues.
PreservedKillick
@blingee:
Oh nonsense. Romney went south right around his convention, when he looked like a complete bumbling fool, on top of the 47% stuff.
The he goes to the debates and looks (surprise!) good. Further, he flat out lies about just about everything – sounding reasonable all the time – and Obama does not refute it. To add insult to injury, Obama is listless and basically fails to support his own policies in a compelling way.
So, prior to the debate, Obama had a lot of “support” from people who were basically embarrassed by Romney. That evaporated and we’ve basically reverted to mean, with some Obama loss due to (a) a bad debate and (b) the normal erosion any incumbent suffers after the first debate.
Will some of it move back? Yeah, I expect. Some Biden likely moved, but most of it is up to Obama making a compelling case in the next debate, being “on” and refuting some of Romney’s BS.
But it’s not going back to where it was before, that’s for sure. A lot of that support was clearly a sugar high.
Edit: Just goes to show that a prevent defense generally serves to prevent you from winning. I assume Obama is pretty clear on that point now.
The Red Pen
Speaking of music we’ve been listening to for decades, I saw the Psychedelic Furs last night. It was great.
I would make a cute remark about how old they looked, but they helped define the New Wave genre, so they deserve some respect.
