Mitt the Liar said today that there are no abortion laws that he is “familar with” that would become part of his agenda***:
“There’s no legislation with regards to abortion that I’m familiar with that would become part of my agenda,” the GOP presidential candidate told The Des Moines Register’s editorial board during a meeting today before his campaign rally at a Van Meter farm.
***In the time it took me to write this post, he already walked back his comments. Dude is a flip-flopping fuck wit.

This is it. This is the Etch-A-Sketch moment that we’ve been wondering if it ever was going to happen. It’s happening, it’s real, and it’s frightening.
This is RMoney finally acting like the Moderate Governor of Massachussetts.
The question is: how do you fight against this? It’s like Shrub’s “Compassionate Convervatism”. People bought that horseshit hook, line, and sinker.
smith
Romney a flip-flopper? You don’t say.
Lying comes as easy to this tool as breathing oxygen comes to most people.
I can’t believe there are people out there who believe anything that comes out of Romney’s mouth. I look at them like I look at someone who just told me they saw Bigfoot in their living room.
Cargo
Mitt “won” the debate by suddenly morphing into a moderate and lying his ASS off about everything that he’d stated as a position for a year and a half prior. The base now knows that this is what he has to say to get elected, and they’re locked in. He’s pivoting to the center and it’s understood and planned in advance. Now to see who falls for it. (the entire press)
Lurking Canadian
Fuck this guy. Between this and his son’s comment about how the president’s an unruly child, fuck the lot of these fucking fuckers for fuck’s sake. Fuck.
The Dangerman
@fuckwit:
I saw a clip of Romney giving testimony over a visit from some dude that would soon pass on in hours or a few days; it was a bravura performance. He’s conning the rubes and his base is more interested in beating Obama then having any concern over electing a charlatan. I can easily see him winning with such a strategy.
Little Boots
mitt. doomed.

THIS IS A WHAT IF/JOKE/SATIRE!!!
Once Obama wins re-election, he should find out everyone who voted for Rmoney and round them up and put them in camps – geology camps, agriculture camps, urban sanitation camps, etc. Lots of camps.
Since, clearly, anyone who would vote for Rmoney is a deficient example of the human species and a future serial killer, so why not “retrain” them now, before they do any greater harm? Would this not be a way to create instant peace in America and the world?
END/WHAT IF/JOKE/SATIRE

been tweeting this the last few minutes ’cause it just ridiculous
Wow, Romney on abortion: 9 Different Views since 1994. Y should women trust him? A video timeline:

nah, he should do what he does and not give a shit. he knows what he’s doing.

Oh come on.
Even the rubes like Medicare and contraception.
Have some faith in President Obama and his record of four years.

why don’t people know I’m always right?
BarbCat
The selling of the soul is a daily event. Methinks the baggers might get insulted if he keeps this up. Do you think he does some form of ‘winking at the base’ when he flips on cultural issues?
Also, too, When working for Bush/Cheney in 2004, a guy named Mitt Romney said, “And an effort by one candidate to say oh this recession and the slowdown in jobs was the result of somehow this president magically being elected – people in America just dismiss that as being poppycock and they recognize it as that.”

@Elizabelle:
Not going Sully at all; I said, tonight, I could see Romney winning, not Obama tanking it (which is what I think Sully said; I didn’t waste any time reading him) or Romney WILL win. I don’t get why people can’t see through the brazen lies, but, right now, the lies haven’t sunk Romney (as they should). If they don’t sink him over this shape shifting bullshit, I could see him winning.

@fuckwit:
TV ads showing video clips of Mitt’s various positions on the issue. Especially effective if he changes his position on the same day.
Then at the debate and via surrogates come up with a good line along the lines of “Which Mitt will show up?” Make a game/graphic/whack-a-mole type thing where if you hit the Mitt that says X, he pops up here saying something Y. Make it The Thing People Know About Mitt Romney–he’s always changing his positions, will say anything to survive.
Bring back the Etch-a-Sketch, use it in an ad with Mitt changing his positions. Make sure the ad shakes it the Etch-a-sketch violently between each version because it’ll look dramatic and scary (use scary music). Hand out/give-away free Etch-a-sketches for donations.
SiubhanDuinne
But a fast flip-flopping fuck wit, you have to give him that.
The Other Chuck
The ads are out there already. Everyone already knows what a mendacious sack of shit Mitt is. The big question, is that enough to overwhelm the ignorance, hatred, and boundless reserves of spite held by at least 45% of the electorate, who would gladly burn every last thing down just to stick it to a Democrat? The best we can hope for is to hold it below 50%. This is what our aspirations have come to.
Wag
Its time for Obama to drop the bullshit bomb on Romney at their next debate. I envision something along the lines of, “After careful consideration of the innumerable distortions you and your running mate Mr Ryan have made regarding me and my record, I have one word for you. Bullshit. Your tax plan is bullshit. Your foreign policy is bullshit. Your current approach to healthcare is bullshit, although in the past you’ve been a national leader in the rational retooling of the healthcare system.
An so I say again, bullshit.”
I guy can dream, can’t he?
Hill Dweller
@Or something like that.Suffern Ace: I’m not so sure the white women shift to Willard, if it’s real, will last. Willard said he wanted to see Rove vs. Wade overturned and Planned Parenthood go the way of the dodo. That happened this year. Obama just has to hammer him for it, and hit him again when he starts dissembling.
SiubhanDuinne
@lamh35:
Wow. Just wow. That is stunning, seeing/hearing the entire spectrum of positions, back to back, one after another. Wow.
smith
@Wag:
If Obama did that I’d donate $10,000 to him on the spot. I’m not kidding.
Redshift
@Cargo: I wouldn’t count on the base being locked in. Yeah, they’re going along right now, but the reason he kept having to play to the base is that they don’t trust him (as well they shouldn’t.) If he keeps sounding unreliable on tax cuts, they may well demand more public fealty. (If he stops gaining in the polls, as seems likely, I expect the hyenas will turn on him again.)
YellowJournalism
My mother thinks Mitt looks like the devil as played on a cheesy daytime soap opera.”All he’s missing is the horns!”
I have to agree. He’s got that snake oil salesman thing going for himself. He like a guy who posts a pic of George Clooney on a dating site and tells the woman that it was strange lighting that made him look that way when she asks why he’s so different in person.
The Dangerman
@The Other Chuck:
It’s a stunning failure of the media; not only is FOX in the tank, but ABC appears to willing to climb in to join them as well. This should be an epic asskicking, with the Republicans sent to the sidelines to do their necessary soul searching, but, instead, this will probably be too close for any of our comforts.
TexasMango
If Obama suddenly declared himself pro-life the press would be all over it. Don’t expect then to do the same for Willard. As usual PBO has to fight the GOP and the media because they refuse to do their damn job.
TenguPhule
I’m not laughing. At this point Obama needs to take a page from Genghis Khan and have a small hill of the skulls of his enemies in the Republican Party built up in front of the White House. Maybe then they’ll cut the bullshit they give him.
TenguPhule
First you get him very very angry. Then capture the blowup on video. Ideally get him to the point where he tries to actually physically attack Obama. At that point, between Obama’s knuckles or SS pistolwhippings, Mittens is done.

For what it’s worth, Lurking Canadian (@ #4), I couldn’t have said it better myself. Integrity is not worth a damn thing in Romney World.
Mitt Romney: “lielielielielielielielielielielielielielie!”
TexasMango
@The Dangerman: It was always going too be close. Closer then it should ever have been.
I blame white people. Seriously, don’t you all talk to your relatives and friends? WTF is wrong with them? If it weren’t for minorities Democrats would never win elections.

Obama needs to bring this up in the next debate. I know I have said the debates are stupid and pointless, but he should just bring this up and watch Romney try to handle it. The idiot movement conservatives will be like “rah rah, whatever, he showed that black man” but the fundies will throw A FIT that people on the other side of the world will hear.

Every Obama ad needs to start with “Mitt Romney is lying to you again”.

Money Boo Boo’s point person on judges is Robert – effing – Bork.
Today’s right isn’t after Roe, they’re after Griswold.
Pass THAT to your wavering friends & neighbors.

I’ve been following the election closely for well over a year. I’m actually struggling to come up with what Romney would do if he won.
* 20% across the board tax cuts that won’t touch revenue and won’t change how much each bracket pays and is balanced with something unspecified.
* Repeal Obamacare, but implement a health care plan that does everything Obamacare does except for the mandate and cost money.
* Fix Medicare without causing any problems for anyone and awesomely, but only after his second term is over because it’s just too good for the current people on Medicare.
* Repeal Dodd-Frank but fix financial regulation but get rid of job-killing regulations.
* Grow the economy by being elected. No plan is actually needed.
* Abortion? Never heard of it.
* Immigration reform will happen but will keep Obama’s policy but will get rid of Obama’s policy.
* Will withdraw troops from Afghanistan unless he doesn’t want to do so but won’t give a timetable because weakness.
…
Seriously, I think the only actual promises he has is to cut funding for PBS and Planned Parenthood.

It’s okay, I’m sure the Democrats will agree to a compromise in the true spirit of bipartisanship and allow women to have birth control every other Sunday of months that end in Y.

I don’t know what the electorate will look like this year, but this is the breakdown from 2008.
http://elections.nytimes.com/2008/results/president/national-exit-polls.html
Any poll with a cross tabs that are wildly outside of this is probably crap. So from now on if I say a poll is crap this was my reference.
Jut as an example:
2008 electorate: 74% white, 47% male, 43% over 45 and 32% South
Yesterday’s Pew Poll: 84% white, 44% male 70% over 50 and 38% South
The only measure that was close was the gender breakdown.
Violet
@Jay in Oregon: Yes, except that one is playing fun, carnival-type music. It’s not scary. Needs Mitt’s changing positions to be scary. “We can’t trust him”
West of the Rockies (formerly Frank W.)
Thanks for the numbers, TexasMango… I hope the Pew poll is, indeed, very misleading and not a true indication of some massive shift of opinion. Can we really be a country of 50% morons?
jwb
@TexasMango: Pollsters usually correct by using demographic weightings. I know there’s been debate among pollsters about what demographic weightings they should be using, but I don’t recall anyone saying they thought the white vote would be greater than 78%, which I think is about what the 2004 number was. It’s certainly not going to top that for a candidate like Romney. My neighborhood, which had a large number of McCain signs in 2008 has not a single Romney sign. This does not mean they are not going to vote for him, but it does suggest that there is no great love for him.
Violet
@Jay:
Wavering voters won’t have a clue what Griswold is. Is that some new hipster band? A character on a sitcom? The latest internet thingie?
Needs to be painted as exceptionally scary. Pictures of 1950’s Leave It To Beaver-style kitchen scenes morph into women being told by their husbands “You’ll have babies when I want you to” or something, followed by pharmacies showing “No birth control” signs. And voice over of “Mitt Romney’s ideal world”. Scare the shit out of women.
? Martin
Got to give Jon Huntsman credit – perfectly lubricated weathervane might be the most succinct and accurate description for any political candidate ever.
? Martin
@TexasMango: 84% white? No fucking way. Even if California was wiped off the map it’d be lower than that.
jwb
@Violet: As with so much of the GOP agenda, voters just won’t believe that it is their agenda until it is too late, and in this case it’s not Romney’s stated position—at least the last I checked. Bit with Mittwit, who the hell knows where he really stands on anything.
Violet
@jwb: Ads need to string together actual video of Mitt’s various positions, like the one above. Make one for abortion. Make one for taxes. Anything where Mitt has at least three, preferably four changing positions. Even better if he’s changed in this campaign. Best if it’s on the same day. String them together.
Release the ads one after the other, so people know they’re related and it becomes a thing: “What’s Mitt lying about today.”
Hill Dweller
@? Martin: Pew’s sample also had just 15% non-white. The projected participation rate for this year’s election is approximately 28% non-white.
gwangung
@Hill Dweller: Um, that’s kinda fishy to me….
Glidwrith
@TexasMango: Yep. I’ve tried for years. Last attempt was explaining that 20% of Pennsylvanias population wouldn’t be able to vote if the voterID law went into effect. The immediate response? “It should be hard to vote.” I settle now for calling up my wingnut congress critter and screeching at him instead of yelling on blogs.
mk3872
And still President Romney is going to win in November. Good thing Moderate Mitt is back. At least he’ll govern from the media-imposed “middle”.
Hill Dweller
@gwangung: The entire poll is/was fishy. Their 18-49 sample % was also absurdly low.
Pew has always been a reputable pollster, but this poll was a disaster.
spacewalrus
dude’s been given a license to lie and flip-flop any which way he likes, and the right could not give less of a fk that he’s doing it.
If the debate’s any indication, the persuadable voters this year–and most certainly Mitt’s base–prefer aggressiveness over honesty, so what benefit is there in crawling into the rhetorical quicksand? he’s just going to refute everything with more gd lies. How do you fight that?
the president gets scrutinized unlike any president in the modern era, and captain mendacity gets away with saying shit like, “I’m not going to tell you what my tax plan is, but it’s awesome sauce–I promise!”
he attacks the president on afghanistan but is down with starting a war with iran (’cause ya don’t increase defense $2 tril and 100k personnel to sit around playing risk).
too many voters eat that shit up. they’ll ratfk us all.
but i’m sick of all these mother fking snakes in this mother fking campaign.
president needs to channel st. patrick, fdr, and samuel l, ’cause we can’t let a shifty, pernicious brat like w. mitt romney win.
Calouste
@Hill Dweller: I’ve seen people defend Pew by saying they use weighing. But even if they do, they got a non-white sample less than 200, which is a 6-7% margin of error, and then they basically double those numbers to do the weighing. Do the same for the age distribution and geography, and you end up with a margin of error that is significantly larger than the 3.2% they advertised. One thing that is really crap is the geographical distribution. Yes, they use random number dialers, but you know mostly which numbers are in which part of the country, so you can just stop dialing numbers on exchanges in the South once you hit the 27% or so that they make up.
nemesis
This latest pandering lie is only an issue if the base says so.
If we see loud-mouthed, headline-grabbing pastors and fetus fetishists go after romney, then we have our answer.
My guess is that nothing is said because important people know mitt is saying whatever he needs to say to get elected. All is well in rw world.

BTW: my key for Obama to beat back the romney surge – brand romney a flip-flopper, inconsistent, and untrustworthy. Pres should find one or two topics and stick to them. Rinse repeat as nauseum.

The man has no moral core. He’s a hollow suit.
Obama should just out and out say it. “Governor, your campaign has said it has no regard for the facts. You stood at that lectern the other night and disavowed your own stated positions. Recently your supporters have praised your reversal of your positions, saying it’s ‘good politics.’ It’s impossible to tell whether you believe in anything but your desire to win this election. I guess you can succeed in venture capitalism without having a moral center, but principles are required of a president.”

abortion should be illegal anyways unless you are raped theres plenty of people out there that would adopt a child that cant have a baby you dumb ass democratic people and as far as the comment goes “obama should round up all the people who voted for romney and put them in camps” NO MY DEAR IF OBAMA GETS ELECTED WE WILL ALL BE IN LABOR CAMPS DO YOUR RESEARCH! watch all the youtube videos of obama
