DougJ and I will be doing a test liveblog tonight for a half hour or so starting at 9. If you’re interested in the liveblogs of the VP and Presidential debates, stop by for a minute or two to check out the mechanics of commenting. I’ll put up a post with more details tonight at 9 EDT.
I signed up for CoverItLive instead of Scribblelive, which was recommended by some of you, because CoverItLive made it easy to buy, versus Scriblelive which had a salesperson in the middle and wasn’t up front about pricing. John will be covering the cost of the subscription.
Any frontpager who wants to help moderate or test it out can contact me at my email and I’ll send you an invite to an admin account.
Talk about that or whatever else here, open thread.
Violet
Can you tell us a little of how it works? Do we have to sign up with CoverItLive? Do we have to use the same email we use here? Do they harvest our email? What about user name–same, different?
How does it work?

I see the expectations game has begun for the VP debate. Me personally, I’m not gonna play it. I think that’s what caused the “meltdowns” last week. Despite all saying to the contrary & the Obama team trying to lower the expectation the Romney team won the expectations game. Some people got so caught up in the laughter at all the stories about Romney’s debate prep, and evident problems on the stump, but the bigger story was a poll showing that a majority of those who planned to watch the debate had bigger expectations that POTUS would wipe the floor with Romney. and when your expectations are sky high and the bottom gets kicked out, then the fall from on high is harder and longer.
all this to say, I think Biden is a good debater. I’m really not sure what kind of debater Lyin Ryan is, but I don’t think he’s dumb and I suspect he does have stamina being a younger guy. So I expect Biden to be his usual “ride or die” Joe and I honestly don’t know what to expect from the lying team. which after the lesson learned from last week is probably the best way to go into thinking for VPdebate and the remaining Presidential ones as well.

You may want to add “EDT” to your 9pm. I think y’all are in NY, but not everyone may know this.
Raven
@Violet: They use it on a football site I go to for live games. It’s pretty easy, you type in a user name and email and go. I think there is a setting for the admins to allow people to comment straight out or be approved.

House of Ras this AM has national race back to a tie, 48-48. That was quick.
Joey Maloney
That’s 3 am for me. Can I just post my comment about how badly it sucks now?
mistermix
@Face: Good point, thanks.
@Raven: Yeah, there are a bunch of options, I tried to pick the most permissible. I think some admin needs to approve commenters so I will do that tonight and in the coming debates. DougJ will probably help, maybe other FPers. I will probably start the debate liveblogs a half hour or more early so we can pregame and get everyone ready to comment.

Is this really an open thread to talk about anything? I am stuck at home waiting for the bathroom contractors to show up for my first major home reno.
They were supposed to be here two hours ago. My FIL is here since he’s done renos and can keep an eye on things for me once they start. So I’m stuck here watching MSNBC with him and he’s being a total pro Romney troll.
This is…not good for my stress level.

@lamh35: So he thinks war-weary Americans want to wage a new one in Libya? Is he really that stupid?

Does anyone have a Kobo e-reader? I’m thinking about getting their Glo model as soon as it’s available in the US. It has a higher resolution and better PDF support than the Nook Glow, and it isn’t tied to a closed ecosystem.

BTW, I’m calling bullshhhh right now on all the Romney “who knows what his FP views” are stories right now. Romney and advisors are playing expectations game, once again lowering it so much that anything substantive, even if wrong is enuff for the village and low-info voters (Although, I’m seriously thinking of no longer calling them low-information voters. With new technologies and darn near everyone having access to computers at the library or cellphone at the least there is ALMOST no excuse to be a low-information voter. PLEASE NOTICE I SAID ALMOST!)

NPR was horrible this morning. They cheer leaded Republicans every single story. I am at the point where I’ll listen to them for about 15 minutes and then have to switch to ipod because the coverage is such a load of shit.
Can we have an anti-donate call-a-thon? I want my money back.

That’s when we go back to ‘Deficits don’t matter.’
So does that mean he’s blaming Bush for 9/11?

@lamh35: I think this Rmoney’s foreign policy PR blitz is, like the selection of Ryan, more about getting good coverage from our lousy media than appealing directly to voters. Our media loves a good war (ratings) and is full of people who, for one reason or another, care a heck of a lot more about foreign policy than most Americans. The media will spend days regurgitating and rehashing what he said, but after it all the polls will stubbornly refuse to budge.

@lamh35:
Because handing out arms to anyone who identifies as a rebel has worked out so well in the past. If Obama proposed doing the same thing then Romney and company would be bellowing that he’s arming unknown Islamists whose goal is the re-creation of the Ottoman Empire.

@jibeaux:
I believe it was you who mentioned George Takei FB the other day. His FB is great fun and I plan to visit it often.
I had to do a double take when I went there because the first thing I saw was a photo of our dog. I knew it was our dog right away. I had an good idea who the friend was and it’s a close family member who is using that photo now in remembrance of our sweet Sami who died a couple of months ago. She was much loved by everyone in my family.

I see a wee problem. In not ruling out sending troops to Libya, Romney didn’t mention whether he’d do so off his own bat, or at the new Libyan government’s request. By international law, as I understand, the former is an act of war. I know of nothing to suggest that the latter is at all likely.
Nor did Romney mention whom any such US troops would be fighting, and for what. It helps a president to know those two little details before deploying any soldiers, methinks. Like you, I doubt there will be much public support for another Blackwater boondoggle.

@Raven:
Thanks for the info.

Does CoverItLive retain access to the email/username combo or is that exclusively available only to B-J admins?

Happy Thanksgiving to all my Canadian comrades!
Someone in the Buzz Bastard thread brought up the plight of the working poor and how they can’t imagine what it’s like to count costs in the store and decide what items are needed more than others. For me, there is a radio ad up here that plays around the holidays that really sums up what it’s like. A little boy’s voice can be heard begging for mom to buy him something at the store. He uses the standard kid bargaining. “All my friends get to have one this year!” Mom kindly tells him they just can’t afford it, it’s too expensive, and they need to spend the money on basic necessities. Then the kid says, “But I really wanted a turkey for dinner this year!”
The delivery of the line and the unexpected gut punch of that reality hit me hard the first time i heard the ad, and it never fails to jab my conscience again and again when I hear it. A turkey or other large cut of meat is something we take for granted for our holiday meals, and the thought of not being able to have something like that probably never occurs to those who complain about the poor having “skin in the game.”

I just got the Nook Simple Touch. Has Glow Light. I love it because it works and is easy to use. I don’t need fancy.
I don’t know anything about Kobo.
You can put in an SD card to the Nook and put your own files on that. Steep knows all that stuff.

Mistermix, Cole said to tell you that he went ahead and made me a front pager. I just sent you an email with my contact information so you can send me the admin invite.

@kindness:
I stopped donating to NPR in 2000 when their coverage of Bush’s election theft was “he said/she said,” then cut my listening by 90% in 2003 when they cheer-led the Iraq War.
Their continued decline since has done nothing but convince me I was right to act as I did.

@YellowJournalism:
Also the stores that do the spend thus and so and get a free turkey, the amount is higher that most poors can afford.

I am kinda pissed off with Andrew Sullivan at the moment.
He blogged recently about the debate. He called it an Obama Implosion and called the President’s performance ‘close to disqualifying’. He called Romney “once again the favorite” even.
Sullivan is so damn fickle. I wonder what being married to him is like.
