Only a few more weeks till we’re rid of Stench and the Zombie Eyed Granny Starver.
Anyone notice there’s been NO pushback on the “stench” story? Hmmmm.
You know what to do. Run the score up. And by that I mean push down ticket races too. Elizabeth Warren and Claire McCaskill can use help as well. Personally, I think the Senate could do with more women. Let us know in the comments of any promising Dems running for Congress or any Governorships. Hell, let us know about any interesting ballot initiatives.
The thermometer stands at $55,635 as of 6:16 PM CT. Let’s see if we can’t get it up to $57 K by 6:00 PM tomorrow. Throw the bastards an anvil.

what is the deal on the stench story? I know quite a few folks here seemed to think the whole article was supposed to be snark, but I also noticed that quite a few people around the internet were reporting it as fact. Even Steve Benen seemed to think it was real.
I don’t know, that article was so shitty it is hard to tell. Other parts were sort of obvious, but other parts seemed real. I tend to it was just a really shitty attempt at satire with a healthy dose of Poe’s Law.
either way Rmoney and Lyin are a couple fuckwits.

the amazing thing about pushback on the stench story is how much pushback they’ve had on other stories. other than a couple of “duh, obviously it was satire you dumb libruls” i haven’t seen anything… i think they’re about to reach the acceptance stage of grief.

The amusing thing about “Stench-Gate” is people, on first hearing it, can’t decide if it’s snark. Which means most people can easily believe the VP candidate would say something like that.
Which sums-up what most people think about Willard “Mittastrope” Romney.
dmsilev
@KG: Roger Simon’s Politico column was a (not so great) attempt at satire. However, the original ‘stench’ comment, which came from the chair of the Iowa GOP, was real.

Because it’s sooooooooooo crucial that we re-elect Barack Cheney and continue turning America into a massively militarized garrison police state bogged down in endless unwinnable foreign wars.
Meanwhile, Greece moves backward into the labor practices of the 19th century: creditors now demand a 6-day workweek with 13-hour workdays. Coming soon to America, no doubt, courtesy of your hero, Barack Cheney…

Ok, seriously Mitt is delusional. If it wasn’t so sad, it’d be scary if this was an episode of Criminal Minds.

Pour it on, folks.
If we can keep the Senate and win back the House, Obama can actually do something in a second term.
If things stay the same, though, we’re in for four more years of Republican shit-weaselry.
The GOP is getting desperate, as seen in Gingrich’s “Obama’s a fake president” and Sununu’s “he’s a lazy ni-CLANG” comments. They’re scared. And they should be.

Re: findraising…in the Indiana Senate race, Joe Donnelly could use some help versus Richard Mourdock, who is a real, honest-to-god, no shit, Republican prick with ears. His idea of compromise is, in his own words, that “Democrats should come around to the Republican viewpoint”. The state Tea Party’s best boy, and a gilt edged asshole who beat Richard Lugar in the primary. Beating him would hurt, and it’s a close race.

Rep. Mike Turner’s $6 Billion Plutonium Plant Boondoggle
By Joseph on Sep 25, 2012 02:20 pm
If you live in Ohio’s 10th congressional district, you have a choice this fall: Democrat Sharen Neuhardt or Republican Mike Turner.
According to Congressman Turner’s campaign website he spends his days in Washington “reigning in out-of-control spending”. But like so many other things that have come from the Turner campaign, this statement is very far from the truth. Instead, Turner has spent the past year fighting to get $6 Billion in funding for a nuclear plant in New Mexico that no one needs or even wants, except a handful of his campaign donors…

My Congressman (Mike Honda) has a solid blue district, but in the nearby CA-9, Jerry McNerney has a fight on his hands. McNerney has a PhD in math and is an expert on renewable energy. The latest redistricting took away the bit of the Bay Area in his district, leaving a more logical, but more conservative area centered on Stockton.

Like I said when Imani posted on the Politico piece, I noticed the photo caption began “Simon says…” which didn’t look quite right for a serious story. Plus the reference to people being polite even to soybeans seemed way too facetious for a serious story. So there were tells deliberately inserted into the story.
The satire rang truer than intended, I think, because it reflected Roger Simon’s actual belief about the state of things between Stench and ZEGS.
And who knows, he could be right. I’ve never seen any suggestion that those two ngam (fit together), as we say in Malaysia.
Maybe there’s no pushback from the campaign because they have other and bigger fires to put out almost every day, no thanks to Mitt. And maybe there’s even some truth to the picture Simon paints of Mitt and Ryan’s relationship.

Speaking of women in the Senate, what about Tammy Baldwin – running for the open Wisconsin Senate Seat. I know I’d be damn proud to have the first open, lesbian Senator be from my state.
The recent 538 Senate race polls look promising, and I’m hoping to keep that going …

I loved me some of the new polls that came out today. I have to say that +10 OH, +9 in FL sounds way too optimistic.
That said, Obama was never this far ahead in 2008, and he wasn’t clearly pasting Gramps yet. I think at this rate, we have at least even-money shot at getting NC back into our column.
I do think it would be pretty awesome if the campaign decided to take a flyer on Arizona and/or Georgia. Can you imagine a campaign rally in the heart of Atlanta? That sounds like it would be awesome.
minachica
Don’t forget Tammy Baldwin if you want more women in the Senate, She’s a committed progressive with a great track record in the House, and she’s being slammed with Crossroads ads here, and I’m worried she may lose and we’ll be stuck with TWO GOP senators for the first time since I’ve lived here. Ugh.
And not only does she have the being-a-woman factor working against her, she also is a lesbian and has been out since before she won her house seat. I’m kind of shocked that she’s taken the lead in the last week; shocked and energized to work hard for her election.

I woke up at 3:00 this morning in Detroit. Passed through Houston and hit Mexico City by noon. Now I’m in Puebla looking at a freaking volcano out my hotel room window. There’s smoke coming out of it. If aliens landed it wouldn’t startle me. It’s been a strange week and the high weirdness starts at about 4:00 am tomorrow when the parts truck arrives and work gets under way.
So glad to see that Mitt’s run of bad ‘luck’ continues. Looks like Anne was wrong. The more we see of him the less we like him. Can’t wait for Obama to get under his thin skin in the debates. The red-faced hissy fits will be priceless. Stocking up on popcorn for that.

For Washington State’s open Governor’s seat:
–Totals raised:
Jay Inslee has reported $9.2 million raised to $9.01 for Rob McKenna. Large contributions to Inslee have been channeled through the state Democratic Party, which has put $1.494 million (and likely more at month’s end) into his campaign.
Rob McKenna has received zero dollars from the state Republican Party. He did transfer $98,000 from his Attorney General campaign fund into the gubernatorial campaign. Inslee transferred $624,000 from his U.S. House campaign fund into run for Governor.
Support groups: Groups “independent” of the Inslee and McKenna campaigns are bearing the brunt of negative TV advertising. The Republican Governors Association has shelled out $6.035 million, including a $525,000 donation last week — not $15 million as was falsely reported.
A pro-Inslee front group called “Our Washington” has raised $5.77 million: It has taken $3 million from the Democratic Governors Association, with the rest coming mainly from labor unions. It received $250,000 last week from AFSCME, the public employees union, and $100,000 from the Teamsters Union.
The League of Conservation Voters, which doesn’t usually back candidates for Governor, is supporting Inslee. It has given $250,000 to its state affiliate, Washington Conservation Voters. The money will be (wisely) spent separate from Our Washington.
Oh yes, one small donation to Our Washington deserves notice: It received the remaining $763.31 from the treasury of “No Reversing Our Benefits” (NOROB), an anti-McKenna political committee formed by writer David Goldstein of The Stranger. (The McKenna campaign won’t talk to The Stranger.)
So . . . at the moment, Inslee v. McKenna is a $30 million race, with campaign and support group war chests both equally matched.

I was never really convinced that Simon’s column was on the level — it just seemed too over-the-top, and the PowerPoint stuff was the clincher for me. If you’re looking for good Democratic women, I have three to recommend here in New Hampshire:
Maggie Hassan is the Democratic nominee for governor, seeking to succeed outgoing Gov. John Lynch. Lynch has been the only thing standing between the state and its teabagger legislature since 2010; Hassan’s opposition is serial candidate Ovide Lamontagne, who ran as the conservative alternative to Kelly Ayotte for in the 2010 GOP Senate primary. Right now Ovide has a small lead but a huge cash advantage; if Maggie is going to pull this out, she needs help. Donate here: http://www.maggiehassan.com/
In the first district, former Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter is seeking to beat Frank Guinta, who won this seat in 2010: http://www.sheaporter.com/ . In the second, Ann McLane Kuster is up against Charlie Bass, who lost in 2006 and came back in 2010 by just a handful of votes in the GOP’s best year in generations: http://www.kusterforcongress.com .
This is a small state, so a dollar goes a long way. These are good candidates who deserve your money, and who New Hampshire deserves to be represented by. Beating Guinta and Bass gets us two seats closer to giving the Speaker’s gavel back to Nancy Smash. And if all three win, they would make New Hampshire the first state ever to have a woman governor and an all-female Congressional delegation at the same time.
So if you’re looking for someplace to donate some bucks, I highly recommend these three women. Thanks!

Edit 2: So is Sharen Neuhardt, mentioned in comment #18.

@WaterGirl: Thanks! I don’t think I found that one when I was hunting around this morning.

@WaterGirl: Tammy Duckworth from comment #48 is also on the congressional red to blue 2012 list.
Edit: Carol Shea-Porter from comment #50 also on the red to blue list.

@Violet: I don’t know why I didn’t think about that list this morning. :-)
Four of the folks recommended on this thread are on the red to blue list. It would be great if we had our own little BJ page for Act Blue congressional races. Front Pagers, calling front pagers…

Mazie Hirono, currently Congresswoman, 1st Hawai’i, is running for the soon-to-be-vacant Senate seat now held by Dan Akaka, who’s retiring. Her opponent is a former two-term Republican governor named Linda Lingle, whose candidacy is heavily backed in ads by the US Chamber of Commerce. Lingle is running nasty misleading ads, as is the Chamber. Hirono’s fighting back, but I suspect Lingle has more cash. Mazie could use some help.
