I see how it is.

An anti-capitalist quote, from this week’s Wachowski Bros. profile in The New Yorker:
Okay. I forgive them for the Matrix sequels.
By they way, I don’t think every rich person should be chopped up. I don’t actually hate the rich, per se, just rich conservatives. Although, admittedly, well-off people — or people raised in well-off circumstances — who don’t recognize or acknowledge the advantages they were raised with, can be pretty frustrating, even infuriating, no matter what political stripe, I don’t hate them for that.
I only hate wealthy conservatives who try to increase, directly or indirectly, the sufferings of everyone in the classes below them, whether for profit or vindictiveness — which, of course, appears to be the primary raison d’etre of today’s Republican Party.

I am looking forward to Obama’s speech. BTW have you checked out Joe Klein’s latest in Time? Apparently it is time for the Democrats to abandon identity politics. How can he write that with a straight face, when the Republicans have been doing nothing but that since Obama was elected.
Brachiator
When is the Castro speech scheduled? Will it be on cable or broadcast tv?
Didn’t watch the Republicans, but am going to try to catch as much of the Democrats as possible. I am looking for them to bring the hammer down on Romney and Ryan, and not just warn that the Republicans promise more of the same.

Looking forward to the Big Dog’s speech. He’ll take on the welfare reform lies and the economy directly and with full force. Also looking forward to Obama’s speech.

As always, looking forward to fine oratory from Clinton and Obama. And I’m curious to hear Martin O’Malley speak, since so many tell me he’s a potential coming superstar (I hear much the same about him as I did about Obama in early ’04).
joel hanes
Obama’s speech.
He’s a splendid orator, and never more than under pressure of circumstance.
Rey
Yes looking forward to Julian Castro’s speech as well, hope he doesn’t suck! Biden, Clinton, Flotus? is she speaking? and of course our President. We have some heavy hitters on our side, can’t wait..
JenJen
I’m looking very forward to Biden’s speech, and the exploding GOP heads as he gives ’em the business.

@pkdz:
Yeah, I’m looking forward to Big Dawg ripping them a new asshole. Should be good.
I want to see O’Malley, Castro, Warren, Biden, and Obama, of course. But Michelle O is a must see for me. I just love her.

@Brachiator:
Tuesday.

I am also looking forward to Julian Castro. I am hoping he will be one of the young Democrats who will lead Texas out of the wilderness. I saw a clip of a speech on education by him that was really good.
ETA: I want to see Clinton, Biden, O’Malley, the Obamas –
actually, all of them, Katie.

I’m looking forward to pretty much the entire line-up of Dem speakers, especially the POTUS, serving up the rhetorical equivalent of 98-MPH fastballs that connect dead-center on the Romney/Ryan dunk-tank bullseye. And, of course, the pundits all wailing about how meeeeeeeean the Dems are, and scrambling for some shred of evidence that someone at some point during the GOP con said something that was true.
JPL
@Josie: all of them, Katie.
I couldn’t agree more.

@JGabriel:
I thought that one of the Wachowskis had undergone gender re-assignment treatments.
Soonergrunt
@JenJen: Same here. Almost as much as I’m looking forward to him eviscerating the zombie-eyed granny starver in the VP debate.

Looking forward to Julian’s speech. He’s my mayor and we are proud of him and his brother. Came from true liberal stock, their mother was an activist. We have had two Democrat mayors in a row and San Antonio has done way better than most cities in the past 10 years. Lots of poor people, sure, but there are a lot of good things about this place.

After yesterday’s orgy of AngryCranky 2012 threads, I’m hoping I’ll be able to stay focused and get some typing work done.
From the convention: I have no expectations one way or the other beyond hoping Democrats don’t try to kill each other in quest for purity.
Heliopause
Daily Show and Colbert. And then the blessed end of the mass media psychosis known as political conventions.

I plan to live pretty much on C-Span this week. If I can get mystelf to delete the first week of Stephanie Miller tv, I plan to DVR everything I can. I’m looking forward to what has got to be a virtual lovefest compared to the RNC-Indeed, after that mess, I expect everyone to be even extra lovey-dovey and extra friendly at the DNC.
Note to self: buy popcorn-the regular non-microwave kind.

D’oh! Called them brothers out of habit, or early cognitive classification from when Bound and The Matrix first came out.
You’re right, I should have referred to them as the Wachowski siblings, or just the Wachowskis. My bad.

I will watch the Big Dog because I always watch the Big Dog. And because I am enjoying his transformation from the guy who trashed the place (and it wasn’t his place) to the guy who everyone pretty much has to agree was, all things considered, a damned good president.
I will watch the president because, until we see the ‘debates,’ this is the most important speech of his career and maybe the most important presidential speech of adult lifetime. He absolutely has to nail it. He has to beat these people because they are bad people with bad policies. He has to.
donovong
I’m only looking forward to a couple of speeches: Biden, Castro, Michelle, Bubba, Pelosi, and Barack. Hell, I may even watch the commercials.
By the way – all campaign merchandise is on sale on the Obama website! 25% off! Don’t tell my wife, but I just bought a ton of stuff. Discount code is summersale.
Chris
@JGabriel:
This. I hate poor and middle class conservatives too. Possibly even more because they’re kneecapping their own children, their own families, their own friends and neighbors in the process of kneecapping themselves. At least rich conservatives can claim that their environment has it good thanks to their policies (for now at least).
Chris
@James E. Powell:
Imagine how much that must bite for the people who loathed him, predicted his catastrophic doom and worked their butt off to bring it about, as much as they now do to Obama.

Music recommendation for you, Doug.

On topic? I expect Clinton to be awesome. I may tune in for that.
The Ancient Randonneur
I’m hoping the Dems can get Betty White to introduce Obama. Maybe she can ad lib something to an Etch-A-Sketch? I would tune in to watch that! Otherwise, no convention watching for me. OK, maybe the President himself, but that is about it. I’ll watch everything else when the clips come out later, but only if they are interesting or controversial.
Villago Delenda Est
I’m looking forward to surprise guest Bob Newhart talking to an invisible Clint Eastwood, myself.
Hawes
Clinton, Obama and Ed Asner lecturing a Commodore 64.
Mnemosyne
I see they’re including sane ex-Republicans at the DNC, what with having Lincoln Chafee and Charlie Crist both speaking.
Also interesting that both Carter and Clinton will have their individual moments in the spotlight (Carter via videotape, but that makes sense at his age). Apparently the Bushes Sr. and Jr. had a videotaped message at the RNC that was run outside of broadcast hours. Though maybe the networks were afraid of the carnage that would follow as people laughed themselves into unconsciousness at Bush Sr. talking about W’s “honesty and integrity” and how he had no scandals during his administration.

I’m especially looking forward to Elizabeth Warren eviscerating the Rethugs “we did to build that all by ourselves” bullshit. The fish are so big, and the barrel so small, that shooting them is almost too easy.

@James E. Powell: Any positive outcome that depends on Obama nailing a speech is pretty much in the bag, I am happy and relieved to say.

Does anyone know how to find the schedule of what will be covered on TV? I can’t tell if there is any network coverage or MSNBC coverage for today (monday). Or the rest of the week for that matter…
gbear
@WaterGirl: The Maddow Blog (Steve Benen) had a daily live feed of the republican convention. I’m sure that he’ll be doing that for the democrats too. LGF had been posting the daily schedules for the republican speakers.
WaterGirl
@gbear: Yeah, the trouble is my internet connection has been crap for the past week, and was down for 24 hours straight a few days ago, so I am looking to figure out what is on TV rather than online.
If LGF is little green footballs, I just went there and didn’t find anything. :-(
I am so frustrated with my internet connection I am ready to scream.
Edit: I forgot to say thank you.

I’m looking forward to John Cole finally getting a pair of pants.
