Google’s driverless cars have a “license to drive” in the state of Nevada, but if you ask Republican state Rep. Jim Frische in Florida, folks are trying to give the cars a “license to kill” (like 007) in his state.
__
That’s the message driven home in his attack ad against his opponent, fellow Republican Jeff Brandes. The pair are facing-off in a primary which is taking place today.
__
Earlier, Brandes sponsored HB 1207, a bill which would legalize the operation of autonomous vehicles on public roads in the state. That is much the same as the law which has been enacted in Nevada.
__
The “Vehicles with Autonomous Technology” bill is still pending before the Florida legislature…
__
…The ad shows an empty (completely empty) Prius speeding around a neighborhood, nearly taking out Grandma who is using a walker, no less. The implication is clear: Granny better watch out for these driverless vehicles.
__
In the middle of the ad, we hear that Brandes wants to legalize “driverless, remote-controlled cars” and that Brandes “had to convince the [state] senate it wasn’t witchcraft.”
But, you know, Harry Reid and Romney’s taxes, and that ad about the guy whose wife died from undiagnosed cancer after Bain eliminated his job and thus health insurance, so, um, both sides do it.
[From the Limbaugh thread but fits better in an O/T, I think.]

@El Cid: If Florida Republicans have no problem with people shooting random grannies if they feel these grannies are a threat, they should have no problem with driverless vehicles running over random grannies.
The obvious solution to this impasse is to fit these driverless cars with machine gun turrets. It’s a win-win.

My elderly orange feline friend, Mojii, seems to be withdrawing. He doesn’t want to eat, although he will drink now and then. He doesn’t want to be groomed. He doesn’t want to cuddle. He just wants to be left alone.
He’s been this way for three days. He doesn’t seem to be in pain and isn’t sore or sensitive anywhere. He just doesn’t want to eat and he doesn’t want to interact with anyone.
Aw, I’m so sorry to hear that. But you may well be right, I’ve seen them do it.

I’ll take your advice about ignoring the drama. I broke up a spat this evening and my older cat wasn’t taking my attempts to calm her down very seriouly.
Shortly after Mitt presented the proposal described here, Congressman Paul Ryan and Senator Ron Wyden introduced a bipartisan proposal that almost precisely mirrors Mitt’s ideas. Unsurprisingly, the Obama administration immediately rejected the proposal. Mitt has applauded the Ryan-Wyden effort and looks forward to working as president with leaders from both sides of the aisle to implement meaningful reforms that will preserve Medicare for future generations.

Is it just me or is the Romney camp slowly coming more and more unhinged.
I know there has been a article about Obama personally not liking Mittens, but its with good reason, since ending the primary and even during them, Mittens camp lied and still blatantly lying on the stump, in interviews, and in paid advertising and actually boasting that they are indeed “misquoting” Obama.
Although I never notice any real dislike toward Obama on the surface, Obama unlike Romney tends to actually try to keep his supporters civil and tries to keep is comments above the petty, but Romney of course never does the same.
Mittens now apparent disdain for Obama I just don’t understand the root of it even before Obama got into “campaign mode”. I don’t wanna think it’s anything other than Obama being a Dem, but reading what I’ve read about Mormons and African Americans I’m beginning to think it more nefarious.
Anyway, I don’t recall, yet, Obama making any seeminly personal gibes at Mittens, but I don’t think the same can be said of Mittens.

Two things are on my mind: is it snobbery on my part to wonder why a guy with a BA from a 90th ranked state school should be seen as a wonk with such fomidable brain power that he would be positioned to possibly be the next president of the US? Geez, couldn’t Michelle twist him in knots with her hand behind her back?
And, having watched Romney pretty carefully this last year and getting used to his truly insane fear of commitment, I’m thinking he already is having buyer’s remorse. There’s that starey, glassy fear look that deadens his face and leaves that tight smile hanging there as if it was made of construction paper and stuck with chewing gum under his nose. I think Ryan is going to get the Refalca treatment soon.

Well, okay then. If Bill Kristol says it, it must be true.
