Okay, let’s do Triple Rock on Shattuck in Berkeley tomorrow at 7 for the BJ meet-up. I may be up for a second BJ meet-up on Friday for those who can’t make it on Wednesday.

Listen at you motherfuckers and your Berkeley.
Cris (without an H)
Ha ha, I googled the lyrics in the title before this B-J entry was the top search result. Googlefrist!
Amanda in the South Bay
Maybe have a Friday meet up in the 415/650?
Punchy
Did you take this line from an adult movie?
MikeJ
Come and see the Berkeley hunt?
Hob
Aw, I probably can’t make it tomorrow – might be able to do Friday.
Comrade Colette Collaboratrice
@Amanda in the South Bay: Yes, this! I have to be at a boooooring evening meeting in San Jose on Wednesday. Will think of you all.
J.A.F. Rusty Shackleford
Come on, that’s a sitter.
PhilC
@Amanda in the South Bay: 650!
guachi
A bit of a drive from Monterey, but I might be able to make it tomorrow. But I could definitely do Friday as I’ll be across the bay on Friday in SF.
Cassidy
Coastal elites and your Berkely fetish. Are you ordering lattes as well?
trollhattan
I’m too far away to drop by (too far for the drive home at least) but don’t you dare not make it to Zachary’s Pizza while there.

Trust me.
joeyess
I didn’t hang around the other day to find an answer to my question if any Ballooners live in the KC area.
If so, would love to have a meet up sometime.
Origuy
I may make it tomorrow night; Friday is more likely.
When it was announced that Netroots would be in San Jose next year, I started thinking about where to have a BJ meetup. My first thought was the Britannia Arms, but since then the Original Gravity Public House has opened up. If it stays in business (no certain thing in downtown SJ), I would propose it. Something to keep in mind, anyway.

Do we ever have these get togethers in Los Angeles? I mean, what about my needs?
kindness
7 doesn’t work for me, sorry. I’ll hope to do Friday if it happens.
FormerSwingVoter
@trollhattan: Weird. I’m nowhere near the area, but that might be the third separate Zachary’s reference I’ve seen on the blogs I frequent this week.
Must be some damn good pizza.
pacem appellant
I want to come, but I likely won’t be able to make it. Have an IPAX for me!
pacem appellant
@FormerSwingVoter: Yes. Yes it is. I’m salivating just thinking about it.
Turgidson
@trollhattan:
I mentioned this in the last thread and was met with unexpected resistance. No accounting for taste, I guess.
mds
@trollhattan:
Good grief, how many times does DougJ have to say he hates Zachary’s? Twice?
Ugh
Say Hi to John Yoo for me!
trollhattan
@FormerSwingVoter:
I can sum up my thoughts as follows:
Q: Worth a three-hour round trip?
A: Yup!
Locally, we have great thin-crust “artisanal” pizza (world-class, honest) but nobody who does a Chicago style remotely as good as Zachary’s. Damnit, now I’m hungry!
trollhattan
@mds:
Possibly infinite times. We have enough “yes” votes right here to vote him off the island.
Cassidy
Nah. Dominoes.
The Dangerman
I’m confused; does this fucking around involve three sets of twins or two sets of triplettes?
Culture of Truth
you never have too much BJ
Southern Beale
Speaking of meet-ups, Mr. Beale and I are gonna be in Portland at the end of August. Any BJers live in Portland and wanna grab a beer?
Portland OREGON that is….
Politically Lost
I’m flying home to the wine country tonight after a week on Lake Ontario in upstate NY.
I plan on making the meet up tomorrow. Count me in. Traffic can be a little FUBAR coming from the North Bay so I will probably be a little late.
Lizzy L
Will try to make it.
Alistair
Surely the correct song for this thread would be “Seeing Double at the Triple Rock”?
N Line Judahist Priest
@Amanda in the South Bay: 415 PLEASE! I have an insane amount of work for a project launch midweek so can’t make Berkley, but would do anything I could for a 415 on friday!
The prophet Nostradumbass
@Origuy: Gordon Biersch is another place in downtown San Jose.
@Alistair: haha, that occurred to me as well!
kindness
Apparently BJers need to take it upon themselves to have local Balloon Juice meet-ups. It is good DougJ makes this one come about.
We could call them Tunch Brigade Conventions, Lilly Learn-Ins or anything that makes it sound like drinking is the major focus of the group.
Formica
Are lurkers welcome? I bought a furminator because of Cole’s experiences with Tunch. I think that counts as loyalty. Doesn’t it? :P
Zach Defresne
You know, I actually kinda believed John when he wrote that DougJ was the guy in the goat suit in the mountains of Utah.
Will I see anything like that if I show up at Triple Rock? Cause I’m definitely gonna make the five hour drive from Pasadena if so.
kindness
Furminators are the bomb aren’t they? Talk about the hair they remove….
So if we have a Friday meet-up where would be good? Going with the beer connection:
San Francisco – Toranado on Haight
Oakland – The Trappist
In the Southbay how about Giovanni’s Pizza on Lawrence Expressway off 101 in San Jose? Yea it isn’t beer but they have the best thin crust NY pizza I can get out here (it could be Sunnyvale, I don’t know).
I guess we got no North Bay folk here…..
Tony the Wonderhorse
Ah, you lucky dogs! I used to live in Northern Cal, I’m an L.A. boy now :-)
But Berkeley is just a cool place to be, what was that killer hotdog place, on a street running n/s, even better than Pinks?
Enjoy the socializing!
Bruce Webb
@Tony the Wonderhorse: hmm. Top Dog is the quintessential Berkeley Hot Dog place since at least the 70s but their locations these days are on Center between Oxford and Shattuck, on Durant just north of Telegraph while thie Northside Hearst Av location seems to have gone bye bye. And all those streets are E-W. so maybe you are thinking Oscars on Shattuck and Hearst. Not to put too fine a point one it a block north of Triple Rock.
And the only Dog place beyond Top Dog within three blocks of Berkeley BART that I can think of.
I haven’t had a dog at Oscars for decades but IIRC Oscars = steamed and Top Dog = grilled. And both at street food prices as opposed to Berkeley Foodie Restaurant prices. I love this city but you don’t have to blink before you are paying for $10 glasses of wine and $15 dollar tapas next door to a place with just as good or better food and drinks at half the price. Trust me you will never go hungry or thirsty in Downtown Berkeley even as the Cafe Lunch at Alice Water’s Chez Panisse would with wine set you back three figures. Nice if you got the bucks and the refined taste buds but not necessary.
Sean
There is a possibility I might have a change of plans, but for now I plan on being there.
DougJ
@Formica:
Sure, come on by.
Zagloba
I’ll be there. I have to be convinced all you batches of pixels actually exist.
Bill D.
Doug, I plan to drop by too. I missed your last visit due to (rather unusually) not checking the site the night before- kicked myself when I got home!
On another topic, the Top Dog site shows the Heart Avenue store still open. It’s not on the sign for the mini-mini mall that it’s in, so it’s easy to miss.
