Update from commentor Carol V:
On June 22, you kindly posted my Fort Collins cat bleg here, wherein I hoped someone would give a home to my father’s fabulous and lonely kitties. One of your readers, Keith, generously offered his home to them both (I think he was suckered by the beautiful Mandalay and took Flash as her companion), so we made the arrangements. Keith’s home is in another city, so the two kitties got another exciting trip across the country via the airlines — flying cats! Attached is a bad photo of Flash, wearing his temporary collar and suspicious that something’s up. He undoubtedly deafened anyone who handled his carrier for the entire trip.
Both cats arrived safely at Keith’s, and Mandalay promptly disappeared, demonstrating her master-class hiding skills. Flash explored, but mostly demanded petting. A couple of weeks later, Keith reports the cats are
“…doing really well. Taken over the house to an extent, as the existing ones stick to different areas of the house (although they all feed together without incident). Flash and my smaller cat hiss at each other, but they rarely cross paths. Mandalay is extremely social with everyone, and surprisingly loves being around my alpha (who is a giant black cat cat). This is a shot [attached] I took of them a couple of hours ago; Flash shot outside, so I gave everyone some supervised outdoor time (an angry bird scared them indoors)…they both look capable of climbing fences, so they don’t get to stay outside for long.”‘
Sometimes there are happy endings, so I wanted to thank Balloon Juice readers for everything they do for pets in need.
I love happy endings. Thank you Carol — and, of course, Keith!

Love, love, love happy ending pet stories!

Fantastic and thank you so much Ann Laurie for following up on this. Many times appeals are make over blogs or FB for animals in need of homes but then there is nothing ever heard about the outcome. This kind of follow up builds momentum for the next situation. Which reminds me isn’t there a kitty in the NY area facing an August 1st deadline?
Anyway job well done all around!

We just had a minor earthquake here in LA. Heard a low rummble sound for a second or so and then a sharp jolt. Not enough to wake my girls though.

Happy beginnings to Mandalay and Flash. May they enjoy their new surroundings for a long time.
@BillinGlendaleCA: Ugh.. It’s pretty early so hopefully you can get a little more shuteye.

Good to hear. A good story to wake up to.
Bill: re your earthquake. 3.8 with epicenter near Marina del Rey?

Speaking of reading, here’s a series by James Fallows that BJ readers may wish to keep up with:
http://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2012/07/chronicles-of-casino-capitalism-kicking-off-a-series/259772/#
The story about Hawker Beechcraft would have raised my blood pressure to dangerous levels, if it hadn’t been subnormal due to lack of caffeine. And in what will no doubt be a shock to many, a tentacle – er, affiliate – of Bain Capital plays into the story.
How Fallows shared masthead space with McMegan for five years without popping an aneurysm is a complete mystery to me.

@VividBlueDotty:
Did. You’ve probably moved on this morning but you’ll see my tweet.
Here’s to happy communicating.

A wonderful ending and Keith is a wonderful human being! He’s getting two fine-looking kittehs there, also too!

@jeffreyw: “well, things look mighty different from up here!”

@Linda Featheringill: Just saw and followed you back. Thank you. I’ve enjoyed your comments for ages! I don’t post on here often, but will more often these days, at least till I find a job. I used to post under a different name here – can’t even remember what it was now – but have switched all my political social media stuff to the VividBlueDotty moniker.
And thank you too @hepkitty!

Wonderful to hear that the cats and their new owner are doing well.

@BillinGlendaleCA:
Didn’t feel a thing, but the cats did seem a little clingy this morning.
