I’ve been having a FB battle with American Airlines tonight. They keep sending trolls in to dispute my issue, I keep winning with the facts. Then they scrubbed my comment. I reposted. It’s been fun. Interesting public relations they practice over there.
Meanwhile, the real letter went to corporate hours ago. I expect their response will be somewhat different.
Not a bad way to kill an hour, I needed to do battle to expend some energy anyway. Better to hold a mirror to fools than scream into the wind about all that’s happened down the road from here.

What the fuck Jon Lester? Red Sox are in last place, and deserve to be lower than that.
ETA: Also, I just wonder if everyone who competed in the Tour de France was drug free, who would win?

@the Conster: The A’s just swept a 4-game series from the Yankees. Awesome weekend on the baseball front.

I went to my gym for the first time in like three months. My god it has gone down the toilet. There was hardly anyone in there (which I didn’t mind). I went to shoot some buckets and all the basketballs were torn up and not pumped up. So I decided to use the jacuzzi, and it was ice cold! I think I have like two months left on my membership; needless to say, I won’t be renewing.
the Conster
@Mark S.:
No one goes to the gym in the summer, including the staff. You might want to check back at the end of September.
TaMara (BHF)
@Mark S.: Kinda sounds like in 2 months they might not be there.
jwb
@Mark S.: I think you know now why there was no one there.

@The prophet Nostradumbass: And my Tigers just got done sweeping the White Sox. They’re now in first. I’d just about given up on this team a few weeks ago.
Indeed, a good weekend of baseball.
Gin & Tonic
@the Conster: I think there are more drug-free cyclists now than there have been in quite some time. I know this is damning with faint praise, but I do think there are at least some teams and riders who are trying to ride right. But you know it’s been a problem forever, right?

Breaking Bad was awesome, tonight

I just got home from TDKR. I honestly think it was a bit underwhelming, although it wasn’t as violent or as depressing as I’d been led to believe.

@Gin & Tonic:
Yes I do know that doping has always been a part of cycling, which is why I have no idea who to admire. I admire Lance for being the best cheater, but who is the best cyclist?
The prophet Nostradumbass
@Tissue Thin Pseudonym (JMN): What’s wrong with the Twins?

@Spaghetti Lee: I enjoyed it, but the more I think about it, the more sloppy the writing seems.

Lord, lord have ya’ll seen Black Dynamite on Cartoon Network? I watched it the other day and Lord I did laugh.

Re Next Food Network Star winner- Can’t wait to watch the show, the mentor’s shows are also big must watches. Smart makes me happy.

@The prophet Nostradumbass: They spent years drafting as if they wanted pitchers without a fastball. Draft after draft, they’d be taking control artists with high round picks. Throw in Kyle Gibson’s elbow issues and Alex Wimmers inability to find the strike zone and they haven’t managed to develop the few high ceiling guys they have. They also have a penchant for drafting center fielders with no power, like Span, Revere and Aaron Hicks.
I don’t expect them to get much better for a few years.

And you’ve wildly succeeded, because I have no idea what you’re talking about.
I assume television-owning, cable subscribing, Food Network aficionados may comprehend this post better, however.

I’m bad at noticing plot holes and logic flaws and the like-sometimes I finally get the hint months later, and sometimes I have to be told. Last night, I think it was you who said there was a huge plot hole but you didn’t want to spoil it, but I can’t think of what it would be.

I miss traditional cooking shows. I love watching other people cook with confidence. I’m just not one for those new-fangled competitions. I don’t have the stomach for it.
Also. Too. Get off my lawn

@lamh35: The live action movie came out 2 years ago and it was pee in your pants funny

@Spaghetti Lee: Yeah, there’s still that big one, but a couple of other, smaller ones that aren’t much in the way of spoilers:
1) How did they prevent Gothamites from just swimming the river to escape?
2) Wouldn’t Selina Kyle have been noticed when Bane’s guys opened up the prison?
lamh35
@David Koch: I remember that. I need to add it to my netflix queue. I had it on there but never watched it.

Haven’t really been paying attention to FNS but I do get a huge kick out of Alton Brown’s tweets. He only posts photos he’s taken of post-it notes he writes messages and draws odd little things.

Snipers. Patrols, etc. Either Gotham’s or the other authority outside of Gotham. This was made implicitly clear by JGL and the scene with the bus towards the end.
As to your larger point, about physics or rules of Wall St trading, that’s all suspension of disbelief stuff easily granted in service of a larger story.

Damn. Only 38 days until we drop the kid off at college. Wasn’t he in diapers last week?

Good night BJ. I got another 12 hour shift tomorrow, so I’m off to bed.
Here’s the video of President Obama’s remarks at the hospital after he spend over 2 1/2 hour talking to victims’ families and survivors in Colorado.
I love that he told a story that so far no one has done yet. I’m sure there are many stories, but the networks seem to be telling the same ones.

i bet ippy is smart enough around the kitchen to know that when a frozen pig ass is falling, you raise your foot ever so slightly off the ground and “catch” it, thus minimizing the owie.

@freelancer:
You won’t get them all, or even most. Even with 30 years to perfect the systems, they couldn’t prevent people from getting out of East Berlin. There will be people getting out, some of whom Bane’s people know are leaving. And stuff is going to get back in, too. The idea that Gotham is hermetically sealed is ridiculous.
Is it suspension of disbelief? Sure, but to make it fly, it needs to be restricted to stuff that’s necessary and it needs to be limited. If not, it’s just sloppy and a sloppy product bothers me. I realize that other people can tolerate it, but I hardly think that movies are the only place that the average American consumer shows depressingly low standards for the products they purchase.
What makes it worse is that I know Christopher Nolan can do better. Neither of the first two Batman movies was anything like this sloppy and The Prestige was tight. It just comes off feeling like he didn’t care whether he got stuff right this time.

I’m checking out Star Wars: Old Republic, actually downloading the thing right now. There’s a free trial and I thought I’d just see what it’s about.
I’ve never done a massive multi-player thing before. Any suggestions to a total newbie on this type of game?
NotMax
@Politically Lost
Far from an expert, but Old Republic may not be the best choice for a first experience. My limited understanding is that the mechanics are geared to players with experiential background in MMOs, and the reported hundreds and hundreds of thousands of players who fled the game after playing for a while is not a favorable harbinger.
Might try the free World of Warcraft or the also free Aion Online as an entry into the genre.
Should you by chance choose WoW, there certainly are players here, and starting a character in the same realm (server) as one of them has chosen will allow them to join, or group with, or otherwise help you with rough spots or things that are not soloable.
RadioOne
I wouldn’t be surprised if Marti won second place on Food Network Star this year. Alton Brown’s team was pretty good.
Politically Lost
My DSL connection isn’t exactly the fastest as the download will probably be done some time tomorrow.
@NotMax:
I’ll check out the WoW site right now.
Kris Collins
@TaMara I absolutely agree. The competitions are kind of fun but what does anybody learn from watching chefs trying to make something edible from Gummy Bears and octopus? Anybody remember David Rosengarten teaching how to make a great tuna sandwich? Now that was worth watching!!
NotMax
@Politically Lost
In any of these types of multi-player online games, there is a subset of immature or socially backward players who get their jollies by making rude or insulting or otherwise discourteous comments to newbies, to those still gaining learning experience, or even to those who don’t play exactly the same way they do in every parameter.
There are asses in all walks of life. Just ignore them. There are plenty of others who can and will offer help or advice or straight answers to questions about gameplay.
Kris Collins
@TaMara (BHF):
My previous comment was intended to be a reply to your post I just have minimal tech skills. But to continue my theme, I was an ok cook when I was a kid then I started watching Food Netwourk and PBS, with Pierre Franey, Emeril, Rosengarten, a number of others who actually taught how to cook. They taught and inspired me and I took it from there to become a pretty decent cook. Most of the current shows, by contrast, are fun but basically stupid and useless.

My wife is taking on the challenge of trying to get greater diversity, especially women, in technology. She’s a part of the company that just put on OsCon. So, your warnings are not falling on deaf ears at all. Thank you.

@lamh35:
I’ll have to check out the series. The live-action movie was hilarious. Perfect tribute to those ’70s blaxploitation movies.
Speaking of which, how ’bout a little Bobby Womack? “Across 110th Street.”

@Politically Lost
Maybe Mr. Cole could put up a thread (hint, hint) wherein WoW players could offer which realm(s) they play on, whether they play alliance or horde or both, if they play regularly or intermittently, and so forth for like-minded folk to find one another in-game.
BethanyAnne
@Politically Lost: Definitely several of us here play WoW, so if you hit a roadblock, just call out in an open thread. Aslo, Daily Kos has a group of players called Wreck List. If you get interested, just holler. Finally, the Alliance suxxors.;-P

@BethanyAnne
Now I’m picturing an all B-J guild named The Tunch Team or something along those lines. :)

@Kris Collins:
My latest favorite cooking show is Bitchin’ Kitchen with Nadia G. Tremendously funny, but she’s got real chops and makes real food.
I think we’re actually in a sort of golden age for cooking shows. Putting aside the ridiculous “competitions” and Gordon Ramsay screaming at people, you’ve got hours of good stuff being shown every day on two or three dedicated channels. That’s livin’. My favorite for long-term, no-fuss consistency is Jacques Pépin. Bill’s Food is really interesting, but it’s not on often enough. I could go on and on.
BethanyAnne
@NotMax: We tried one, called “Also, Too”. Turned out it was in a lull for too many folk. I’m not really logging in much myself right now; mainly waiting for Panda-monium. When I do play, I play on Proudmoore Horde – my toons are in The Spreading Taint, which is the massive GLBT guild there.
NotMax
@BethanyAnne
Thanks. Was not aware of that.
Wouldn’t realistically expect the panda expansion (monks!) to come out until November or even December.
Heard just last night from someone at the dinner party who is running the Beta version that they are still severely tweaking glitches in 5-person instances, have yet to even drop 10-person ones into Beta play, and are having major difficulties with the announced new pet combat, as that is for all intents and purposes grafting what could have been a completely independent game onto a large existing structure.
BethanyAnne
@NotMax: Sure. Yeah, in some ways, that’s good news for me. I’m working on Loremaster on the Horde side, and that gives me a little time to get a 2nd wind. I’m pretty close, only Kalimdor left, but a leeeetle bored with it.
Joel
Newsroom just isn’t working for me.
NotMax
@BethanyAnne
Hear you loud and clear on that. Having all partially achieved provinces reset back to zero when Cataclysm dropped was a royal pain. Only had the fortitude to grind to Loremaster on one of my guys after that.
Schlemizel
@TaMara (BHF): I’m with you! I watched Chopped for a while because it was interesting to watch cooks be creative with odd-ball stuff but it got old fast. They want to make it all about the “human interest” crap so they have the same 5-6 stories over and over built around cooking.
I think they probably have reached the limit for viewers that want to learn how to improve & are now reaching for the MTV crowd – GOML!

Just had dinner at Do or Dine last night and had no idea this television show even existed. Chicken and Woffals, ftw.
