Gosh, I haven’t seen conservatives this mad at the Supreme Court since Brown v. Board of Education.
h/t to Erik Loomis, of Lawyers, Guns, and Money.
In addition to updates on your puppies and children and TV shows and other goings on in your lives, shoot us a link to the most wingnutty freak-out you’ve seen or encountered today.
Lastly, is it just me, or is there more than just a hint of “sunshine patriot” to the conservatives? I mean, they love democracy when they win, but they want to gut the whole system when they lose.
Xenos
Impeach Earl Warren!
Maybe all the Birchers will start to self-identify with mean bumper stickers, so we can all point at them and laugh.
Really now, they chose the commerce clause as the hill to die on?
Mark S.
I’ve noticed a lot of wingnut commenters want to impeach Roberts. I support that.
Nom de Plume
is there more than just a hint of “sunshine patriot” to the conservatives
Um, “hint”? These people start talking secession every time they lose an election. They ain’t hinting, dude. Treason is like an autonomic response for them.
Ash Can
Listening to these right-wing/GOP histrionics, you’d think Citizens United had never happened.
(Affordable health care for millions more Americans — bad! Mega-billionaires being able to buy elections — good! Way to keep your priorities straight, right wing!)
Linda Featheringill
You aren’t old enough to remember Brown v. Board of Education.
I know, details, details.
ETA: Cute line, though.
Mark S.
Does this mean conservatives now support the right to grow your own medical marijuana?
Linda Featheringill
@Mark S.:
Mark S. Says:
Roberts is worse than Obama. He sold us out!
MikeJ
@Mark S.: I don’t see where medical should enter into it.
Jerzy Russian
@Mark S.:
As hard as it to believe, I don’t believe they have thought this thing through. As President, Mr. Obama would appoint the Chief Justice’s replacement, and one would presume the replacement would be an even bigger disappointment to them.

Wingnuts are also going to be pissed at the U.S. District Court for the District of Idaho.

What if Harriet meiers were chief justice. I almost sharted thinking about it.

The wingnut thread Cole mentioned below has really gone off the rails. Death threats against the POTUS and lots of civil war stuff. On the upside, I was called a “libtard prostitute” and told to go help restart the economy by doing tricks on my back
Nice to know my customer base is so upscale! :)
Thomas F
Pretty bold from the site that spent the last two weeks clearing the ground, so to speak, for the delegitimization of the Court as an institution of the federal government. Somehow I don’t think Mssr. Soonergrunt — or any of the other fair-minded front-pagers — would have been urging reconciliation and fellowship if the decision had come out the other way.
Ash Can
@Mark S.:
Wingnut SCOTUS plan:
1. Impeach and remove Roberts
2. ??? (Actually, Obama appoints successor.)
3. Uh…profit?
ETA: And yes, Jerzy Russian did essentially beat me to it. :)
jl
Earl Warren was a moderate conservative ‘progressive’ CA repgulican. Big supporter of WWII Japanese internment. Ran as VP with Dewey in 48. And then…. the horror the horror!
Deja vu all over again? Very doubtful, but they are crazy.
John! How could you?
For those with a mean streak, have some fun. Tell your freaking out wingnut friends fam and sig oths that you are applying for a job with the death panels.
Tell them that they are looking for people with the appropriate political histories with a certaint ‘tude.
BJ commenters may be a little ‘differently attituded’ from the average, so your story might have some impact.

@Ash Can:
” Wingnut SCOTUS plan:
1. Impeach and remove Roberts ”
OK, folks. If anyone says that, freak out and act afraid.
“Please, Mr. Wingnut, don’t throw us into the briar patch.”

@Thomas F: hahahahahahahahaha!
(too much?)
The prophet Nostradumbass
@Thomas F: Your concern has been noted, and given the proper consideration.
Ash Can
@Thomas F: For those used to being on the short end of the stick, and reading the writing on the wall, naturally there was going to be gloom and doom going on here. Keep in mind that very recent poll of constitutional law professors, the overwhelming majority of whom deemed ACA constitutional and a clear majority of whom expected the SCOTUS to rule otherwise. (If that isn’t a damned bullhorn in the ear, I don’t know what is.)
Punchy
Anyone catch Bill ORLY? tonite? Was he sanguine, cogent, and circumspect? Or wingshit crazy?

@Thomas F:
We usually have better concern trolls. You need to step it up a notch if you want to be noticed.
Jon
@Thomas F: Your fee fees are hurted, I know. Go plot to bomb some brown people and make some old people homeless. You’ll feel better.
Zifnab
@Mark S.: Cheers to this. Watching the GOP melt down is fun. Watching them melt down and take one of their own with them is better still. Bring on the Purity Challenge. Leave no moderate unpunished.
Nom de Plume
@Thomas F: urging reconciliation and fellowship
WTF is wrong with your reading comprehension? Nobody is urging fellowship, we’re all laughing at your stupid ass.
RossInDetroit
Reading the ‘winger websites reminds me of a scene from the movie Year One. Jack Black has just burned down his village and been kicked out of his tribe. “FINE! We’ll have our own tribe then! And it’ll be ten times better than your tribe! Who’s with me?”
*crickets*

@Thomas F: shorter you – you are all nutz if you don’t agree with my stupid stand.

The wingnuttiest thing I saw today was the RedState commenter who compared the ruling to September 11th.
Oh, wait, that wasn’t a RedState commenter, it was Mike Pence (R-BatshitInsanediana)

We need to invite the LGM troll Rick Venema of COLONIAL HEIGHTS, VIRGINIA, over here. He has panache.
DougJ, is that you?

With any luck, Roberts experienced “personal peak wingnut” and made the political calculation that he wouldn’t be history’s fall guy for an insane cause. May he read all the diatribes aligned against him from the crazy and violence-prone right and recognize that he’s on the wrong side of humanity with his current political affiliation. … or he’ll keep cashing the paychecks of the “I’m right wing. but not that stupid” crowd and figure this is his conservative mulligan.
Citizen_X
@Jerzy Russian:
SHHHHH!
@tonycpsu: I may have foolishly moved to Texas, with all the insanity that that entails, but at least I don’t have that idiot Pence as my Congressman anymore. (FTR, it’s Sheila Jackson Lee–a vast improvement.)

@Nom de Plume:
We will laugh at them now as better health care is SHOVED DOWN THEIR THROATS, and be thankful the poor souls at least have some decent health care later on, whether they like it or not.
We are merciful and gracious.

Sadly, the wingnuttiest freakout I have seen is on Facebook. My mother, two younger sisters, and the two oldest kids of one of the sisters: Mom (71, with a Masters’ degree, for God’s sake) is all worried about death panels, and the rest are worried about how they will live in the new totalitarian America. I swear to God I must have been found under a cabbage leaf.I don’t know if I am supposed to feel badly for their [apparent?] and well-deserved fear for their FOX-only media diet, or embarassed for their obliviousness to the real world. Fourth of July will be a real trip this year. I might skip it.

Stipulating the rhetorical aspect of the question, WTF was Dubya thinking, nominating that dingbat?!?

I’m still pissed that Justice Thomas didn’t recuse himself from this case. I find his clear conflict of interest staggering, and that few are making a point of this. Also, his dissenting opinion was the equivalent of the conversation in “Trading Places” where the two dudes look at Eddie Murphy and one guy says “It ain’t cool being no jive turkey so close to thanksgiving” and the other guy says, “Yeah.” Thomas’ opinion was the equivalent of that “Yeah”. Hope the money was worth it, Clarence, you jackass.

@zanamu:
If things go well, five years from now you will not be able to pry it out of their hands.
A problem for the cynical GOP leadership and political class is that they turned the wingnut lie machine up to 11.
The death panels will not arrive. Some reactionaries will be able to figure out what happened. Some may be too bigoted to admit it as long as Obama is president.
But, over the long run, another nail in the reactinoary plutocat political machine.

@zanamu: I feel your pain. My immediate family is all Democratic, but the extended family is much more dicey. I’ve got one cousin back in Alabama who swears up and DOWN she’s a moderate. She may well be in Alabama, where that’s defined as someone who didn’t vote Roy Moore for Supreme Court chief (this time). And she swears also she doesn’t listen to Fox News or Rush or Glenn Beck. Yet today, every dang story she’s posted has been from Fox. (I’ve called her on posting from The Blaze. Look, if she wants to read those things, fine. It’s a free country. But don’t tell me you don’t when you obviously do!)

well I borrowed shamelessly from EconWatcher’s earlier post and made a new Facebook posting:
So let’s tally it up: In four years, Obama: (1) Killed Bin Laden; (2) saved the US auto industry; (3) prevented an imminent depression; (4) got us out of Iraq; (5) ended discrimination in the military; and (6) realized a dream first tendered by FDR, that all Americans would have health coverage.
and yet 40% of the country still believes that he’s the modern day equivalent of Hitler/Stalin/The Devil/Beelzabub…. you folks need to look in the mirror and have a long conversation with your inner racist because I don’t understand you.
will wait and check on the carnage tomorrow.

@piratedan:
…don’t forget expanding Pell grants, cutting corporate middlemen out of the government student loan program, enacting regulations to double vehicle mileage standards for cars (AND trucks), tough mercury standards, greenhouse gas emissions standards, reining in credit card fees and billing practices, financial reform, a consumer protection bureau with some teeth, Lilly Ledbetter, SCHIP expansion, an innovative competitive transportation funding program (TIGER) solid investment in passenger rail, some added protections for same-sex partners of federal employees, an NLRB and Department of Labor that occasionally looks into things like worker safety and wage theft, two women Supreme Court justices — including the first latina on the court, overhauling and improving the FDA food safety regimen, signing START II
All this and he signed a bipartisan bill that makes it illegal for commercials to run at a higher volume than TV shows.
Not bad for 3 1/2 years in the Oval office.

Dude. I’m older than you, and I wasn’t even born in 1954.
That aside, anything that upsets your extremist right-wing Republican partisans (this is more accurate, I think, than calling them conservatives) is a good thing. And anything that upsets them greatly is a thing of great goodness.
polyorchnid octopunch
As some of you know, I’m Canadian. First off, congratulations on the outbreak of sanity. In all seriousness, we’re all (well, not counting our own nutjob contingent) very happy that there’s going to be some improvement in the health care situation for you folks down south of the border.
The one that was cracking us all up today was the absolute breakout of US wingnuts threatening to move to Canada because the US is becoming a socialist paradise.
Yes, it’s true… US wingnuts want to come to Canada to escape your newly minted com-yew-nist state. The only reason I can think that that made sense is that when you get right down to it… they’re more comfortable with us whities up here than the far more glibertarian bling found in certain places where all those brown wetback people live… and after all, here it’s all single payer by the state, so hey, they’ll get health care too!
Or something.
It is to laff.
…and once again, congrats on the sanity. Don’t rest on your laurels though; you folks have lots yet to do, and not just on the health care file.
bubba
Sign of a movement? This morning a particularly vocal conservative friend of mine has changed her profile picture to an upside down US flag indicating distress. What? Too much….?

@polyorchnid octopunch: …unless they move to Toronto, where nearly half of the population is a “visible minority.” The freakout would be entertaining when they see halal hot dot vendors or realize that the Muslims at their office have a room where they can pray.

@Thomas F: If the Court had struck down the ACA, it would have delegitimized itself. Balloon Juice would just have been noting the fact.

@Punchy: I did not, but Lawrence O’Donnell (SOCIALIST!!!) noted that Bill O’Rly? had courageously taken the evening off.
My guess is that he was taking a bath in his own tears.

@zanamu:
Yesterday I felt sorry for the misinformed I saw on Facebook who seem genuinely worried. After reading more comments I realize they aren’t misinformed, they’re just selfish conservative bastards who can’t stand being parted with a cent of their “hard earned” money. My mom is an elderly Fox news victim too, but honestly, anybody who can’t see the obvious bias there is watching because they WANT everything they hear on Fox to be true.
And your mom having a Masters means nothing: one of my worst ones on Facebook has a bloody PhD. Being educated and having common sense are two different things.

@Thomas F: No wingnut, we don’t want to reconcile with your dumbasses. Please carry out your threats to leave the country. I hope the plane you idiots are on takes a nose dive into the bottom of ocean. Oh, and puppies and lollipops to you, mofo!

@Jerzy Russian: HA! Who could Obama nominate to get through the Senate? The court would have to just stop deciding cases until 2016, and if Ginsberg retired, 4-3 all day long.
shortstop
@Thomas F: The court has delegitimized itself. That’s what four of nine (!) justices opining completely outside of the law, precedent and the constitution will do.
We are all beyond delighted that we won this, but the court has a significant ethics and professionalism problem that’s been thrown into even higher relief with this decision. When everyone settles down a bit from spiking the ball–and I’m not suggesting that should be any time soon, because this victory is very, very sweet–we’re going to have to seriously look at this situation and what it may portend for future decisions. It’s very painful for all of us, and for the legal profession in particular, to acknowledge rank corruption within an institution in which most Americans have always had trust, but it can hardly be denied any longer.

S&P up 25, DOW up 222. Sure, they’re saying it’s about some Euro deal, but, come on.
Seriously, a day in the market is a dumb way to gauge anything, but it’s hilarious that after the Kenyan Usurper has turned the US of A over to his commie overlords, the market goes way up. I’m sure there will be some awesome explanations from all the VSPs.
