How is it possible to listen to a song 800 times and still love it? Still not get tired of it? ” … my old friend.” Michelle Shocked. “Anchorage.” ***SIGH***

Oh, I love this song! I’ve got “Short, Sharp, Shocked” on a cassette tape in some box somewhere. Picked it up in a bargain bin and just fell in love with it. Especially this song.

going thru a kd phase lately, interspersed with a heavy dose of 60’s stuff

Since my grandfather was a coal miner her version of “The L&N Doesn’t Stop Here Anymore” is my second favorite behind this one.
I was born and raised at the mouth of the Hazard Holler
Where the coal cars rolled and rumbled past my door
But now they stand in a rusty road of all empties
Because the L & N don’t stop here anymore

The new dB’s record (their first since 1986) is shockingly good.

My favorite Michelle Shocked song is “Come a Long Way.”

@Steeplejack:
Yes, my favorite song of hers, too.
Loved it the very first time I heard it (over 20 years ago) and love it still.
Sweet, wonderful artist.
First heard her live at the long-defunct Rockin’ Horse Saloon in Scottsdale (also over 20 years ago) and several times since. In fact, she was just here (Phoenix) at The Rhythm Room a few weeks back.
Always very engaging with the audience.

@Steeplejack: GREAT song. For me, it knocked Randy Newman’s “I Love L.A.” out of the top spot for L.A. songs. She’s done a couple of benefit shows for the progressive nonprofit my wife works for, so I got to meet her and talk to her for a few minutes. No big surprise: She’s nice, sincere, and intensely devoted to doing good.

Have this album on vinyl, one of many I am slowly converting to digital. This weeks choice for conversion is Scruffy the Cat, “Moons of Jupiter.”
