Many thanks to commentor Slag for the link to Melodysheep’s YouTube channel! Nothing like a little EEvolutionary perspective to improve the mood of the morning…
Apart from the Greatest Show on Earth, what’s on the agenda today?

Ooh! That was cool!
I’m usually not thrilled to just be alive the first thing in the morning, but that video was inspiring and moving. Thanks.

PBS showing We Were Here, highly praised documentary on the early years of the AIDS crisis, tonight on the program Independent Lens (check your local listings for time(s) and day(s) in your area).

Last day of work for the week (yay for summer hours!). Still trying to decide whether to head to Mt. Pilot tomorrow to see Bernie.

Conservative POV:
Yes, life is complex.
TOO complex!
The elimination of more species will make life simpler.
And that is why we Conservatives don’t care about conservation.
We know it sounds like we should, since both words share the same root.
But why conserve what’s complex?
We like things nice and simple.
And so, destruction, therefore, is a very Conservative idea.
Take a look at what we’re doing with the economy – sort of Darwinian, no?
But, instead of “natural selection” – WE, get to select who and what lives and dies.
And besides, those people and species that are dying?
Well, they should have chosen their DNA more carefully like we did, now shouldn’t they have?
Nature needs to learn now to pull itself up by its own bootstraps – like we did!

Got back from Bonnaroo. Weather was alot better this year. Saw awesome set by Red Hot Chili Peppers (best of weekend). Also saw some great music by Bad Brains, The Beach Boys (the official 5, with a 10 piece backing band, Mike Love was in fine form), Radiohead (was a little disappointed with them), Flogging Molly, Sharon Jones & the DAP Kings (what a show that was), Orgone (google them, you won’t be sorry), LA-33, The Shins, The Roots, The Punch Brothers, The Word, Soul Rebels, etc. etc.
Was farther away than last year though, very long walk in & out. Will go VIP next year.

@Paul in KY:
The Bad Brains?
I didn’t know they were still around!
They were one of my favorite bands to go see in concert back in the late-70’s to early-mid 80’s, back when they used to do half a show as one of the best reggae bands you ever heard, and the other half as one of the tightest and most complex punk bands you ever heard!
Now I’ll have to see if they have a website.
THANKS!!!

@c u n d gulag: They would thrash out some high energy punk for 2 or 3 songs & then bring down the crowd a bit with a reggae number. The lead singer looked a little like Ronnie Van Zant (if he had made it to age 60 or whatever). Great show! Followed by Flogging Molly (wacko crowd for that one). Saw a young dude with a mustache tattooed on his face, you don’t see that very often (IMO).

@Paul in KY:
You know, I never took you for a cruel man…but there’s just no other way to interpret your boasting about Bonnaroo. I’m every shade of green with envy.
Friends in attendance were rhapsodic about Radiohead, Alabama Shakes, and a band new to me, White Denim. (They also waxed on about Skrillex, so their opinions might be suspect.)
Radiohead live is a pleasure I’ve had thrice. Sorry their Bonnaroo set wasn’t your cup of tea or whatever it was you were drinking. Had you heard them live before?
Very impressed by your eclecticism! (though from a comment I remember from some time ago, you gotta get with the Beefheart.)

I’ve seen Flogging Molly a couple of times; they’re great fun. I saw a band called The Real MacKenzies a few weeks ago that are a lot like them, except with Scottish accent rather than Irish.

@handsmile: They refused to play the songs I like (Creep, etc.) and most of their songs were sorta mopey. I think you need to tailor your set for a big, high energy crowd that may not be hardcore Radiohead fans. Hell of a light show though.
Couldn’t hang in for Skrillex, but I heard him from a mile & 1/2 away :-), Missed out on Alabama Shakes/White Denim, but I heard people raving about them.

I like the content, but wish the melodysheep mixes weren’t rooted in early-nineties trance type music.

Right on! And here’s a bonus video by the same person/people that isn’t on the channel: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=OFzXaFbxDcM . Mr. Rogers rocks.
