some guy
things continue to go swimmingly in Syria.
from the LA Times:
BEIRUT — Much of the Christian population of the besieged Syrian city of Qusair has abandoned the town after an “ultimatum” from the rebel military chief there, reports Agenzia Fides, the official Vatican news agency.
The ultimatum expired Thursday, the agency reported, adding that most of the city’s 10,000 Christians have fled the city, situated in the battleground province of Homs.
“Some mosques in the city have relaunched the message, announcing from the minarets: ‘Christians must leave Quasir,’ ” read the report from the Vatican agency, which has sought to document the parlous plight of Syria’s ancient Christian community.
Qusair has been the site of intense clashes for months between armed rebels and forces loyal to President Bashar Assad. The strategic city is close to the Lebanese border and has been a smuggling hub for arms and medicines destined for rebel forces in the embattled city of Homs, about 15 miles to the northeast, which has already seen its large Christian population flee, the Vatican agency reported.

Well at least you know what Steve Doocy is watching tonight.
Cole, how did you get the cat dry? No way you got a towel on him without getting stitches.

I do wish I had the food channel and Home and Garden TV. They are the only cable channels I would want.
MikeJ
@cathyx: Turner Classic Movies is 75%+ of my TV viewing.
cathyx
@MikeJ: What are classic movies? Just old ones?
Yutsano
@cathyx: I would almost get cable again just for that. Almost. That and I’d have to buy a TV.
BGinCHI
@cathyx: A classic movie is an old movie that has Jimmy Stewart or Cary Grant in it.
The judges will also accept Barbara Stanwyk.
ruemara
Love them both and I have no broadcasting duties tonight. So I know what I’ll be doing. WoW, FLOTUS-gazing and wondering what to do with my life.

How is this not just a rip-off of “Kitchen Nightmares“?
cathyx
@BGinCHI: I liked The Big Valley with Barbara Standwyk, but I’m not a fan of old movies. I know I’ll get flamed for saying this, but I think the acting is terrible in old movies. It’s like they’re just saying their lines.
cathyx
@Yutsano: Yeah, it’s too bad you can’t just pay per channel. I would pony up for just those two.
J.W. Hamner
@arguingwithsignposts:
Uhm, there’s a different guy? But yeah, it’s basically the same.
BGinCHI
@cathyx: As opposed to Michael Bay movies?
You need to take my film class and sit in the front row.

Unpossible!
I want to see what the reichtwingnutz say about Michelle/food/the chefs who visit. Should be entertaining.
YellowJournalism
@cathyx: You’re watching the wrong old movies. Try The Snake Pit.
cathyx
@BGinCHI: I don’t know who Michael Bay is. Old movies just turn me off for some reason.
Comrade Mary
@BGinCHI:
From my experience, the only way a cat wants to get dry is by licking itself dry. I’ve bathed a few cats, but none of them tolerated being bundled in towels or set up beside a space heater. (Don’t even ask about the blow dryer. Don’t.)
So right now Tunch is spraining his tongue trying to dry off. Poor thing.
Tripod
@cathyx:
They reflect a very different acting style to post-war realism.
In the context of TCM, classic is anything Uncle Ted hoovered up the rights for.

Keith
@arguingwithsignposts: It’s a blatant ripoff (down to the abrasive Brit), and I’m pretty sure everyone knows it.
gogol's wife
@cathyx:
You don’t know Barbara Stanwyck if you haven’t seen her in 1931 or 1932.
It’s an acquired taste. Watch enough of it and you’ll get it.

I made dinner by mixing up a bunch of stuff in a skillet to see what happened. It was … not entirely successful, but I ate it anyway.
(If anyone’s curious, it was sweet potato tater tots, turkey Italian sausage, garlic, asparagus, onion, and an egg. Definitely needed more spices, but I’m not sure what.)

Things that depress me: someday, a Republican is going to be elected President, and when that happens, he’s going to rip out the White House vegetable garden because Fuck You, liberals, that’s why.

I’m on a Park Advisory Board for the home of the Actor Jack Oakie in Norhridge CA. The home was originally built for Barbara Stanwyck. The house was built in 1937, along side a home for Zeppo Marx, who was her agent (he quit acting with the Marx Bros. sometime earlier). The two homes and the 150 acres south was a horse ranch they named Marwyck. Stanwyck sold the house to Oakie in 1940, shortly after she married Robert Taylor.
Stuck in the Funhouse
@JasonF:
You obviously haven’t been getting enough Greenwald in your diet.
BTW, any nun rape jokes on the food network?
FlipYrWhig
@Mnemosyne: That sounds like a coriander and thyme combination. Maybe some lemon juice.
FlipYrWhig
@Stuck in the Funhouse: What is the Greenwald flavor palate (or is that palette)? All fiber and acid?
ruemara
@Mnemosyne: I would suggest a pint of bourbon to make the flavours mellow out.
rikyrah
I thought it was cool

She was on NPR yesterday talking about “let’s Move” & the new cook/grow vegies book.
