A Florida judge revoked bond Friday for George Zimmerman, who is charged with second-degree murder in the death of Trayvon Martin.
Seminole County Circuit Judge Kenneth Lester Jr. ordered Zimmerman to surrender to the county sheriff within 48 hours.
Lester accused Zimmerman of having misrepresented how much money he had when his bond was originally set in April. Prosecutors say he had $135,000 at the time Zimmerman’s wife, Shellie, told the court, under oath, that they were indigent.
Lester’s decision came after prosecutors asked him to revoke the bond.
“The defense, through Mrs. Zimmerman, lied to this court about the amount of money that they had,” said trial prosecutor Bernie de la Rionda. “I don’t know what words to use other than it was a blatant lie.”
So all that money you wingnut losers donated to Zimmerman landed his stupid lying ass in jail. Love it.

They should arrest the wife for contempt of court or perjury.

It could be even worse for his lawyer. I bet this gets reported to the bar and his ass gets raked over the coals or being weasely like this. Not to mention Zimmerman only got bond because his lawyer bent over backwards saying he’d show even though his mother is a Peruvian national with ties to that country. What a tangled web we weave…
Evolving Deep Southerner
Reckon the wife will face perjury charges now?

Doesn’t this put the credibility of Zimmerman’s statements to the police in question too? Or put in question any court testimony from himself or his family?
I wonder if the prosecution will be permitted to raise this incident at trial.

So the DA’s office had no idea that Zimmerman was collecting funds through a website that was widely discussed within hours of it’s creation. Along with the reportedly shitty crime scene work, this prosecution is shaping up to be a total goatfuck.

There have been some real doofus judges in the system, like that Roy Moore piker in Alabama, or Jerry Smith on the 5th Circuit who threw that tantrum over Obama’s comments about judicial activism. Tonal Crow
@JGabriel:
Yes.
Probably, exactly because it bears on Zimmerman’s credibility — and not just in a general sense, but in relation to this very case. Also his credibility is central to the case because of the relative lack of other evidence bearing upon his state of mind and that of Martin.
‘Course Zimmerman’s lawyers will argue that it’s irrelevant and highly prejudicial, and they will have a modest point. It is very important that criminal cases don’t become free-for-all inquiries into the defendant’s entire life, or what little Liberty we have will dissolve. But the lie about finances is, I think, too important an indicator of credibility to be withheld from the jury. I’ll have to think more deeply about the passport question.
mouse tolliver
So much butthurt from wingnuts over this! Remember when conservatives used to pretend they thought perjury was a serious crime? right. so dude loses his passport back in 2004. he reports it stolen, and gets another one.
Then he finds it again in the meantime. so now he has two passports. one that expires in May of this year, and another that expires two more years down the road.
at his bail hearing, he is ordered to surrender his passport, so he gives up the one that expires in 2012, and says nothing about the other one.
then he is recorded talking about a 2nd passport to his wife on the phone whilst in jail, folks put two and two together and figure out he has two passports.
Zimmy’s lawer tells the judge that Zimmy gave him the second passport weeks ago, and he just forgot to turn it in till this week.
So the judge would have had to call the lawyer a lair to make any kind of deal out of the passport deal.
funny how all the stories coming out of ole Zimmy work out in his favor eh?

Speaking of trials and right-wing cause célèbres…
Schaeffer Cox is on trial in Anchorage, Alaska. He’s one of the guys in charge of the Alaska Peacemakers Militia, a Christian right-wing militia made of up “sovereign citizens”.
He and two other men are on trial for concocting a plan referred to as “2-4-1”: basically, for every APM member that was arrested or killed by the government, the ADM planned to kill two state or federal employees: they were targetting Alaska State Troopers and federal judges specifically.
The wonderful Alaska political blog The Mudflats has been doing a blow-by-blow on the whole shebang.
http://www.themudflats.net/category/crime-punishment/
One part of the trial I found bewildering was the description of “common law courts”; basically, when the ADM members were accused of a crime, they would convene a common law court, with a jury of fellow sovereign citizens. They would hear the charges, and render a verdict; if they found the defendant not guilty (which seems to happen a lot, surprisingly) they argued that the state or Federal governments could not retry them on the charges, because to do so would be double jeopardy.
Lest you think this guy is just some nutty, marginalized right-wing whackjob, I would point out that his “Letter of Declaration”—arguing that Alaskans had the right to pursue Second Amendment remedies against the Federal government if they tried to restrict the sale or ownership of guns—was signed by sitting Alaska Congressman Don Young.

And the fact that 2 days after he murdered that kid he applied for a duplicate passport (claiming “lost or stolen”) tells me that his father gave him some “legal” advice. When he had to turn in his passport he gave them the “lost or stolen” one. But he had the replacement the whole time.
