From commentor Feebog:
Last week a neighbor, who is also a fellow Director on our local Neighborhood Council, had a stray dog show up at her yard sale. The dog had no tags, but is housebroken and socialized. Unfortunately, my neighbor already has three rescue shepherds, and their alpha dog did not take kindly to the intrusion. They ended up taking the dog, who they dubbed Mufasa, to the Los Angeles City West Valley shelter. My neighbor made a video and put it on YouTube. I would adopt the dog myself, but I have a rescue dog who is most definitely an alpha as well, don’t know how he would take to a new dog in his territory. Look at the video, it will break your heart. We are located in North West San Fernando Valley, any one in Southern California could adopt.

Mufasa looks like a keeper! The video made me want adopt her (except I live near Chicago and, well, we recently adopted a shelter dog). But hopefully it will tug at the heart of someone closer to you and offer him a permanent, loving home!

Thanks Anne Laurie for posting this. Keeping my fingers crossed that someone in SoCal will step up and adopt this guy.

Housebroken and well-socialized, but no tags? It sounds this charming fellow got abandoned by his humans, maybe out of financial desperation. I do wish him luck and I hope he finds the right people for him.

I am so sorry this dog is not in Ohio. We had to put our dog to sleep recently and this one looks like a wonderful pet. I hope someone in California is quick to adopt this pretty baby.

@Mary: I suspect there are critters in need almost anywhere, no?

I hope someone will contact rescues to pull this dog from the shelter if it is a kill shelter. There are lots of rescues in the SoCal area including several that specialize in shepards. The shelter staff might contact resces but probably won’t, so I hope Feebog will. A quick Google will find a whole list of rescues. There might be a “Pull” fee–something the shelter will charge rescues for releasing the dog. If there is a fee I would be happy to kick in to cover it.

@Raven, of course there are. And we will be getting another dog shortly. Mufasa just seems like a very sweet dog, who would be willing to live in a house with four cats. There is nothing wrong with a person dreaming of adopting a pet from far away is there?

@ Wonkie:
Just got an email from my neighbor. Mufasa is headed for the West LA Sheperd Rescue. This is great news because these folks do a commendable job placing animals. Anyone in SoCal interested i adopting Mufasa should contact my neighbor whose email appears at the end of the video. West Valley Animal Shelter will also have the info.

What a love. I hope he finds a forever home soon, and hope that we at BJ will hear about it.

@feebog: Wonderful! I’m so glad!

I hope they find the owner…
