Since everything I know about ‘America’s sport’ at the amateur level I learned from Japanese anime, I’m assuming the gormless dude in the back row who slept through the whole production is the catcher.
What’s on the agenda for a feels-like-summer weekend evening?
Raven
I served a logistical support for the community breastfeeding coalition yard sale this morning and have been in the major chill since!

Next thing you know, you’ll tell me you learned about American Football from Eyeshield 21. (as I expose my geekiness)

I finished edits on the second book and sent them back to the publisher. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING is on the agenda, while simultaneously still being gainfully employed, and it FEELS GOOD.

so which one AL?
Ookiku Furikabutte – Big Windup!
Major
Cross Game
or do you have an alternative?
Anne Laurie
@The Snarxist Formerly Known As Kryptik:
Nope, the Spousal Unit is collecting the manga but I haven’t read any of it. Still waiting for the anime version of Princess Nine!

We are wondering what to do with a grey tom that seems to have taken a shine to our place. I was out last night calling Bitsy in when he answered and strolled up. Very friendly, he allowed me to pick him up, and he sat on my lap and purred. He was back just now, crying at the back door. Mrs J seems a bit cool towards him, but she may take him in to the shelter for a checkup and shots and a clipping.

Never seen Twilight and not a fan of Kristen Stewart, but if Charlize Theron is as awesome in the movie as she is in the trailer, then Snow White and and the Huntsman may be pretty good even with Kristen Stewart in it.
Oh and I know Kristen Stewart is the “it” actress right now, but ain’t no way, she “fairer” than Charlie Theron. I mean Stewart is cute, but as a straight lady, even I thik Charlize Theron is yowza hot!
Amir Khalid
@lamh35:
Maybe it’s just me, but I think Kristen Stewart’s ears look big.
Amir Khalid
@jeffreyw:
What do the kitteh members of your household think of him?
lamh35
@Amir Khalid: she’s a cute girl, but I always thought Snow White was supposed to be this great beauty and while KStew is pretty, “fairest of them all” she ain’t IMHO.
Still Charlize Theron looks wicked hot in this, and Thor, I mean, Chris Hemsworth is enough eye-candy for me and the rest of the ladies :-)
jeffreyw
@Amir Khalid: They are with Mrs J.

@Amir Khalid: Kristen Stewart is the lost member of the Bottomtooth family. She even sounds like them.

so I see I’m not the only one rooting for the Wicked Queen in SW and the Huntsman.

On the lookout for a little strange.

Evidence that we need to do more book clubs:
FireDogLake had Paul Krugman answering questions at their site today.
IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN US, GODDAMIT!
Maybe we can still get Krugman if we announce one soon enough?
.
Violet
@lamh35:
I don’t get the Kristen Stewart thing either. If she hadn’t been in the Twilight movies she wouldn’t be getting much attention for her acting or her looks. She’s cute, but certainly not the “fairest of them all.”
Chris
With the evening free, currently looking through Netflix to see what’s worth watching. I’ve been meaning to watch “The Siege” for a while now, but I’m in a fairly good mood and from what I know of the movie, it’s fairly depressing. Ah well, let’s see what else they’ve got.

They have community breastfeeding in your neighborhood? That’s kind of pervy, isn’t it?
I want to move to there.

Already mentally preparing for being jammed in with 100,000+ people at Belmont Race Track in three weeks. Where, believe me, the crowd will NOT look like a Klan rally. ;)
Mustang Bobby
Tonight’s agenda is catching up on all the season finales on the shows I have on TiVo like NCIS (both versions), CSI (the real one), Hawaii Five-O, and Person of Interest.
Also listening to the entire Lord of the Rings symphony, which I think is longer than the movies.
Darkrose
Just watched the Giants beat the A’s for the second game in a row. I’m still not sold on interleague play, but the Giants are hitting the damn ball, so I’ll take it.
PurpleGirl
Doing some laundry and then making dinner. I’m thinking of eating on the terrace as the sun sets tonight. The day was beautiful.

@PurpleGirl:
It was a perfect day.

@jeffreyw:
Pretty boy! It’s always worth getting him snipped and vaccinated — even if Mrs. J and the troupe don’t come around, he’ll be ready to go to another home.

@The Snarxist Formerly Known As Kryptik: For years I couldn’t stand football. Then Istarted reading Eyeshield, and suddenly it all made sense and I was able to enjoy it.
I still don’t actively watch it, but I catch the odd game here and there. The Grey Cup game a few years back was awesome, had a really Eyeshield-worthy ending.

The NAACP voted tonight to endorse civil marriage rights for LGBT. This is a BFD.

I did some errands by bike and need to take a shower before we go out to dinner. I have to work both jobs tomorrow — ugh. Theoretically I probably could have gone into work at the Giant Evil Corporation today and Weight Watchers tomorrow, but I like to have at least one frickin’ day off per week.

@Darkrose: THey got a big assist from the umpires in that game. There’s no way in hell that Vogelsong was actually hit by a pitch, for instance. If not for that, their big inning likely wouldn’t have happened.

Speaking of college baseball, how ’bout dem Tigers? LSU wins the SEC outright today!

The sleeping guy could be the catcher. Might also be the center fielder. Those guys are often a little goofy.
Steeplejack
@jeffreyw:
He looks like he’s at least part Russian blue. If so, not really suited to be a feral. Maybe someone will adopt him from the shelter?

@Mustang Bobby:
The Person of Interest finale is really good. After a slow start to the season, they really got it going around New Year’s. Must-see TV.
ETA: I think it has filled the hole in my heart left by Human Target.
Ben Cisco
@Mustang Bobby: The NCIS and Person of Interest finales were pretty good; can’t speak for the others.
In other news, got my Tempurpedic mattress set today; doc’s scheduling me for an MRI to see what’s what with this damned sciatica. Had a diskectomy (?) on my L5 ten years ago; really hoping not to have to do THAT dance again.
Darkrose
@The prophet Nostradumbass: Oh, I’m not going to disagree on that one. Vogey totally did a soccer flop. I’ll take the win, though.
I haven’t been a baseball fan for all that long, but does it seem like the umpires are, in general, really awful this year? It feels like there’ve been a ton of blown calls and insane strike zones, and it’s only May.

@Darkrose: Yes, they do seem unusually bad this season.

@Steeplejack:
I was really turned off by the premise when I first read about it, and decided not to watch it. but, then Christmas tv break came, and they were showing multiple episodes a week. Saw one, then another,then another. totally hooked.
LOVED the finale.
Yeah, another person in the 1,000 people across America that watched Human Target.
Anne Laurie
@piratedan:
Princess Nine, plus the first couple seasons of Touch (fansubbed). (We’re nowhere near as expert on the hardcore Japan-only stuff as you are, alas.) Plus, of course, the besubaru bits in every popular school anime…

I liked the SMU women’s rowing team’s version better.

@Anne Laurie: If you liked Touch (and to be honest, what’s not to like)… try Cross Game next.

@Ben Cisco:
Re sciatica: I have had two go-rounds with sciatica, one scorchingly bad, and the only thing that helped me was Thai massage. It’s sort of like “directed” yoga, where the masseur (gently) pushes you through the motions. No stress, incredibly relaxing, and great for sciatica, IMO.
But, as usual, find someone who really knows what he or she is doing.
I would only consider surgery as an extremely last resort. And I say that as someone who, in the worst phase, had to lie down on the floor of my office about a third of the day to be able to get through the day.
YellowJournalism
@rikyrah: My husband was a huge Human Target fan. He was devastated when it wasn’t renewed. Now he’s currently mourning the loss of The Firm. He has bad luck with shows; his favs are always cancelled unless they are NCIS. I joke that I blame myself for getting him into Carnivale and Veronica Mars, or else they might have had longer runs!

The video brings back some very nice memories of being in high school and being bused to away games. The furthest we went was to Lebanon Indiana where the great hoosier high school basketball star Rick Mount awaited us. We were singing Beatle songs and “a hundred bottle of beer on the wall” and there were cheerleaders on board. Mount had thirty some points and we got killed in the actual game, but the bus ride itself was worth it.

Woodinville, WA wine tour tomorrow with daughter and her boyfriend, including the winery just down the street where we helped with the crush last fall.
Barbecue to follow. Her bf is an excellent, adventurous cook.

Those boys in the video are SO cute. That is all.
