Clear your Cache. n00bs.

My abacus is also working fine. But that’s not really the point. (I think mobile sites suck.)
artem1s
I’m finally NOT seeing the mobile site. and that’s just fine by me.
Calouste
The mobile site is utterly borked on Windows Phone. It’s there, but it is unreadable because the font is tiny. And if you zoom in, the the column doesn’t adjust, so it is readable, but about 4 times the width of the screen.
I got the desktop site instead of the mobile one for a few days, and that works fine, but it doesn’t show up anymore and there is no link to switch to the desktop site from the mobile site.
The Dangerman
It’s rocking on my Etch-A-Sketch.
Walker
Cleared cache. Still cannot see it (on iPad).
Tom The First
Mobile site not coming up for me… just regular site. (mobile site automatically came up yesterday when I went to the site on my iPhone… not today).
Baud
I get the mobile site — the problem is that the mobile site does not allow me to view or make comments.
ETA: I can view the posts — its the comments that are a problem for me.
For a while, my ipod touch was alternating between the regular and mobile site. Now its mobile all the time (sans comments).
Comrade Mary
I actually like the standard site on my iPhone and have deliberately not cleared my cache. (Well, the comments view is weird about scrolling, as it takes several attempts to scroll to the bottom even after the page has apparently completely loaded, but that’s a small flaw.)
__
Is there a link on the mobile site so I can switch back to standard if needed?
Greg
I’m seeing the regular site, non-mobile, on both my iPad and my iPhone right now. (Which is fine with me, actually…)
fordpowers
@eastriver get used to them. its what the cool kids are doing. 3rd screen experiences. they should be everywhere already – but less desktop + more mobile/tablet use dictates the need for faster loading, simplified and optimized content.
;)
Glass eater
I see the site on my droid and think its one of the better mobile sites I’ve seen, but it doesn’t show the author for each post. Fix that.

Don’t know if it’s my phone or the website, but when I try to load it on my IPhone, there doesn’t seem to be any way to access the comments… which was never a problem before.
Halcyan
Posting from my iPhone. I can see it and the font is good enough if I fliP to landscape. No word wrap on the posting… Whoops! Just wrapped. So it works.
Anya
Working perfectly fine on iPhone and iPad.
Debbie(aussie)
I need some help with comments on itouch, can’t find them :) Mobile site comes up fine.
Maude
On desktop, screen still wide.
WereBear
iPod touch: mobile site, up to date now, but no apparent access to comments.
Litlebritdifrnt
Site loaded fine for me on my droid, only complaint is font it tiny so when I enlarge it I have to scroll back and forth to see the whole post, but to be honest, I access the site on my phone so rarely that it is not a problem. Now the next time I take a five hour trip to the mountains and have to use the mobile site exclusively I might be bitching up a storm but right now it is no problemo.
Scout211
Not seeing it on my iPhone. Trying the old post comment technique. Maybe that will work.
SuperHrefna
I’m only getting the regular site on my iPhone (4S, if it matters) today, and it wouldn’t load the comments properly for me today either – every time I tried to scroll down the comments it would jump me back up to the top. Would love to have the mobile site back! Right now I’m on my macbook.
piratedan
Well I honestly don’t know how you can afford so many vans driving the website around to the masses, but if I see one, i’ll let you know how the driver is performing, kthnxbai
A Ghost To Most
The regular site is beautiful on my android phone, and the site redesign in general is great

Not working on my BlackBerry
Comrade Mary
@SuperHrefna: I figured it out: you really, really have to wait for the little animated starburst in the Safari title bar to disappear, which may take several seconds. Once it’s gone, the comments thread is truly loaded and you can scroll with no problem.
__
Mobile users: please let me know if there’s a link to the standard site somewhere on the mobile site. If I ever use this phone while wearing contacts, I may need to swing both ways.
__
And Calouste answers my question in #4: no link. I ain’t switching.
Suffern ACE
I like that I can hit reply from my iPhone. The problem I am having is with long threads loading. I guess I just have to be patient. If I start scrollIng to the end too early, the thread keeps jumpIng back to the first comment.
Baud
@Baud: The other thing I would add is, even if you make the comments available on the mobile site, it would be nice to have the option of switching to the desktop site. This option was available on the prior mobile version of BJ.
Comrade Mary
@Suffern ACE: If the animated starburst at the top of Safari is still showing, the thread isn’t loaded. Once it’s gone, it should be safe to scroll. Yeah, it’s a little slow.
WyldPirate
The site looks fine on my tablet running Android Gingerbread 3.2.1 but it’s not a mobile version and looks identical to the one on Chrome.
The “mobile version” on my phone running Android Froyo 2.3.6 is much nicer in appearance, but it has some problems. The biggest problem is there is no link to comments. IT has a row of icons across the top reading from left to right: Home, Categories, Tags, and Pages. When hit one of the icons, it simply gives you a list of the same posts. The posts look fine, but no link to the comments.
Te appearance on the “mobile” site is far superior to the former mobile version, but functionality isn’t there. The former “mobile” vesion also let you switch to the “normal” layout which looked just fine on my phone.
FlipYrWhig
How can I tell if I’m on a mobile site or a standard one? I’m posting this on an iPad, and it doesn’t look obviously different from the way it looked on my Windows/Firefox setup at the office earlier.
SuperHrefna
@Comrade Mary: Thank you Comrade! I just had a go on my iPhone and it worked just as you said.
Still no mobile site though. On the one hand I’m glad because it’s nice to have pictures, etc, but on the other hand the font is so teeny I have to zoom in quite a lot to be able to read anything.
Warren Terra
I don’t see (or want) the mobile site on my Samsung Galaxy SII.
My iPod Touch, on the other hand (which I don’t use for much now I’ve got a new phone) only goes to the mobile site. The mobile site I see on my iPod Touch is truly awful: no way to switch it off, no way to see (or make) comments, nonfunctional buttons at the top, etcetera.
__
__
@FlipYrWhig:
If you were on a mobile site, you’d know it. It would look completely different; for one thing, it would have essentially nothing but text, and very little even of that on the starting page. See this badly-done snapshot I took of my iPod Touch showing the mobile site, for instance.

ETA while we’re commenting on site issues, the way the comment entry system removes allblank lines unless you include underscores is really irritating.
Ron
When I open the site on Firefox on my android phone, it appears to be the standard site. Is there a direct link to the mobile version? (m.balloon-juice.com or mobile.balloon-juice.com ?)
FlipYrWhig
@Warren Terra: Oh, ok, in that case I’ve never seen the mobile site on my mobile device.
Insomniac
Mobile site working fine on my Blackberry. No worries there as of right now.
arguingwithsignposts
I get a mobile site on an Android phone (Opera) that has NO COMMENTS! The site is fine on the iPad.
Unrelated, but I like the Recent Comments. Please bring that back. I never browse categories here.
Baud
@arguingwithsignposts: Agreed on Recent Comments.
Scout211
Posted a comment, cleared the Safari cache in my iPhone and it still shows the regular version of the site. However, it is not that difficult to read, as many people have mentioned above.
Is there a “switch to mobile site” button somewhere that I am missing, like in the old version?
Roger Moore
@Warren Terra:
Strikethroughisn’t working either. There are the correct tags around what’s supposed to be marked as strikethough, but it isn’t displayed that way. I suspect this is because “del” isn’t defined anywhere in the CSS. The lack of paragraph spacing is probably something similar. Also, too, edit is still borken; we get an AJAX edit dialog, but it doesn’t pop up over the screen or navigate you back to the post when you’re done editing.__
Previous and next comment links at the bottom of the page would also be appreciated.
Ron
Huh. on Android using the Dolphin HD browser there’s a “mobile view” option that makes sites look pretty good on a phone
arguingwithsignposts
Okay, the regular site loads in Dolphin browser on Android, but it’s w- – – i – – – d – – – e.
ETA: okay, when I zoom in, the main content column zooms in. I couldn’t find the switch to mobile site button.
planetjanet
Looking great on my Android OS HTC EVO 3D! Posted from it as well.
Grumpy Code Monkey
I see the regular site layout on my Android phone (LG Optimus V, Android 2.2.2, Android browser version 2.2.2, Virgin Mobile), which is unreadable until I zoom in. I don’t get the old mobile layout anymore. Clearing the cache didn’t make a difference. Rebooting the phone after clearing the cache didn’t make a difference. Not sure what else to try at this point.
Warren Terra
@Ron:
Never installed Dolphin on my phone, though I’ve been told it’s good. Except for crashing every two days or so, I’ve been pretty happy with the default browser.
@arguingwithsignposts:
The first time it loaded on my phone it was way, way too wide, but that problem went away. I suspected a front-pager had included some graphic with an enormous fixed pixel width or something.
Omnes Omnibus
Cleared the cache on my iPhone. Still getting the regular site. Am of two minds about it. Tiny writing, but replies and all that jazz work.
robertdsc-iPhone 4
Standard site after clearing data on my iPhone 4.
Brian S
It looks fine on my iPad, but when I click the comments link, it won’t let me scroll down the comments–I tkeeps jumping me back to the top of the comments stream. The only way I can scroll down to see all comments (and post one myself) is to click on the post title.
And then once I’ve posted, it won’t let me scroll back up.
b1naryserf
Not visible on one of the Android browsers, called Dolphin HD. It pulls up the regular site, but since this browser handles those fine, I’m not complaining too much. However it doesn’t work through my RSS reader program either and it usually ALWAYS displays the mobile version of anything unless you tell it different. So a lot of switches here maybe need to be flipped.
middlewest
Hmmm still not seeing it on kindle.
Msskwesq
iPhone- cleared cashe – no mobile site…
flukebucket
Working fine on my Blackberry and Ipad.
lee
No mobile sure with my incredible 2. Using built in browser and opera mobile
Nik
Actually what I see is that many of the posts I open (via my RSS client app) open using the “mobile” site, which looks really crappy in a desktop computer browser instance.
Makes matters worse is the “View in full site” link at the bottom of the page doesn’t actually work — the link is malformed and I have to manually append “?wpmp_switcher=desktop” to any page that opens in the mobile site.
There’s no rhyme or reason to this as far as I can tell; some links open in the “real” site, some open in the “mobile” site.
On a related (?) note, sometimes I see a full post in my RSS reader, including hyperlinks & photos, but other times link text is not actually hyperlinked and I see maybe a few sentences of the post.
amk
Fix the regular site first cole.
The Snarxist Formerly Known As Kryptik
iPhone 4, Cache cleared, no mobile site. And I’m one of the few that probably likes the mobile site since it loads faster, doesn’t use up extra bits on the data plan, and tend not to worry about the gimped commenting on it as long as I can read the other comments.
YellowJournalism
Looks fine on my blackberry curve, except the font is a little small without the ability to enlarge. But that could be my piece of shit phone.
Sometimes the font does come up even smaller though, and then the enlarge option shows. Seems random, though. I miss being able to see the balloon man.
Warren Terra
Oh, hey, the rotating taglines have moved back to their proper place.
Now, if only they were properly centered …
(Just kidding. Mostly.)
peachkfc
The site looks fine on my Nook , but on my Droid, I see what Warren Terra says he gets on his iPod Touch, i.e., a weird black and white view with a bunch of non-functional buttons, no way to view or leave comments, etc.
Matt in HB
No mobile site for me (default browser on droid razr), just a tiny little version of the regular site. Works ok; doesn’t look great.
DougJ, Head of Infidelity
The usual it’s fine for me stuff. Shoot me.
bushworstpresidentever
Nice and clear on Blackberry Curve.
p.a.
no mobile site on my palm pre +, and I’m ok with that.
it didn’t seem to load much faster than the desktop anyway, and I found the mobile more difficult to navigate.
pragmatism
IPad and phone look good. I also too would like the Recent Comments back. Thx.

What he said.
elmertfudd
My blackberry only shows the mobile site, and I don’t like it.
Steve V
Asking as someone who mostly reads this blog on my phone — and I’m a loyal daily reader! — please ditch the entire notion of a mobile site. Mobile sites suck, and BJ’s mobile site sucks especially. Thx. :-)
Origuy
I’m running the standard site on my HP Touchpad, under WebOS. Works fine; I don’t see a link to switch to the mobile site.
Three-nineteen
Commenting from my iPhone now, which had previously shown the mobile site – now only see the regular site, but I like the regular site and everything works.
Brooks Benson
Mobile site on my Android is brilliant!
Three-nineteen
OK, after I posted that last comment on my iPhone it converted to the mobile site, which also looks fine and works fine. I can see comments and reply to others.
Now I am on my new iPad that I have never used to go on this website before. I am on the regular site and it works fine.
I almost wish I had something to complain about so I can piss off Cole.
...now I try to be amused
No joy on my Kindle.
YellowJournalism
Tried clearing my cache and reloading. I get the full site. But I like the new color scheme!
DougJ, Head of Infidelity
Testing iPad.

Windows Phone has no mobile site; cleared cache and also posted comment from phone in open thread to see if it worked. Nope. Still see full site on phone. It doesn’t suck too bad, but waiting for pictures and videos and tiny font doesn’t do much for me. I liked the previous version of the mobile site, but cannot tell you if I like the new one or not–haven’t seen it yet.
