I’m enjoying the spectacle.
The clown car race to win Wingnutopia’s blessing as the 2012 Republican Party’s Presidential Nominee has been fascinating, horrifying and–quite often–pretty damn funny. And we can look forward to months of mental gymnastics from beltway gasbags and “rational” conservatives as they disparately try to find some way to defend the winning grotesquerie as a credible candidate for President. Good luck with that come November.
The only Good News for Conservatives is that the Citizens United case makes it possible for corporations and crazy rich people to burn piles and piles of money in the hope that all that smoke will bamboozle enough gullible rubes into voting for the last GOPer sock puppet standing come Election Day. It is amazing to watch their burn rate during their primary season–and how little they have to show for it.
I just got off the phone with one of my brothers in Michigan. Mitt and Rick have been wasting cash to call his Democratic household non-stop. When I was in Detroit a week ago, my parents had multiple robo-calls everyday from Mittens. Now my folks have been solid Democrats for 60 plus years. Any crude list of voters in Michigan would flag them as a waste of time for wingnut outreach–and yet a lot of time and money is being wasted by Mittens and the gang to flood their mailbox and phone lines with spam. These are common stories of wasteful Republican spending, but not unusual. All over the Nation each candidate is not just spending tons of cash, they are effectively just throwing it away in an endless shit fight to prove to the base that only they love the crazy talk while all the others are just a bunch of RINO beltway hippies.
Watching these fools burn through their cash and waste the handouts from their patrons fills me with joy. I look forward to tonight’s results and the coming waves upon waves of conservative despair.
Cheers
ps: I predict that Santorum surges just enough to soil Romney’s hopes of a clean win in Michigan and in another week or so Newt will rise again on the neo-Confederate votes of Southern wingnuts. And then it’s Burn Baby Burn wingnut style all the way to Tampa. Good times. Good times.

Republican primary hilarity drives popcorn stocks through the roof, dragging the DOW over the 13,000 landmark!

I somehow got on the RNC’s mailing list; every time I get a postage paid envelope from them I stuff it with paper just so they waste the postage and the time of opening it. Sometimes when I’m really feeling mean I write something nasty inside. I hope it ruins the day of whoever has to open it.

I can understand Santorum or Gnoot having a lousy ground game, but Romney’s team should have that kind of stuff nailed down by now. He’s just an awful, awful candidate.
So, uh… Go, Mitt, Go!

I’m still trying to get my head around how a bunch of loons obsessed with the untrammeled accumulation of wealth piss it away like drunk sailors at Mardi Gras. Seems to be as un-Conservative as you can get.
I can only think that money is used only for its power over others: denying it to people that you hate to make them suffer, and spreading your own money all over town to constantly show your dominance. Or maybe they’re just fucking idiots with money who desperately need more of it all the time because it goes through them like Ex Lax through a duck. I dunno. Maybe they’ll pay me stupid amounts of money to find out.

@PeakVT:
He’s a shitty administrator. All of the gooper candidates are. And they want the biggest administrator job in the world.

@rob!: Attach it to a brick. That always helps…

Also note that Mittens is spending money faster than it is coming in == unsustainable, and that was why he went down to beg at the Daytona 500 rather than campaign in Michigan.
This is similar to what happened to Hillary in 2008 (spending as if Super Tuesday was the end of the campaign) and may mean Santorum can continue to make his life hell.

@PeakVT:
I’m in Ohio. We got a call from a Romney survey the other day, asking if we were planning to vote for Romney. Not only am I a lifelong Dem, a matter of public record, but I worked for the Obama campaign in ’08 and contributed as many $$ as I could, also public record. Voter targeting EPIC FAIL.

@rob!:
Ha! I’m on similar mailing lists and I do exactly the same thing!
P.S. I bet there are a lot of us :-)

Well, MSNBC has called AZ for the Mittster. Surprise, surprise.
Too close to call in MI. I think he’ll probably squeak it out but I’m quite prepared to be proved wrong. Interesting night either way.

I hope that your predictometer works better than mine did. Christ I had no idea how much the base loathes Mitt.

“ps: I predict that Santorum surges just enough to soil Romney’s hopes of a clean win in Michigan…”
I see what you did there.

And one more reason why I been saying the republican crackup is way farther along than we are led to believe. With only a fawning MSM and Fox News keeping the veil over the ugly meltdown going on inside. They can’t cover up nor lipstick the pig enough when the klieg lights of a POTUS election are glaring. Not only are these proud clowns groveling for dem votes to beat each other with, we have a House of Reps needing democrats to keep the shitheads from burning down the American House, and likely the world with it. That is heretical in American politics, in the peoples House where majorities fly their freak flag, but don’t lay Claymores along the wire of the body politic. And when you have one of only two major poll parties going Supernova, that is everyone’s concern, or should be. It is inherently dangerous, to put it mildly.

@rob!:
Now, now, why don’t you send them something nice? Like maybe a lovely downloadable Obama campaign poster that you printed for them? Or some Girl Scout cookies? I’m sure they’d appreciate them.

Ha! Maybe I should make up a fake gay wedding “save the date” card and put it in there.

Back when Robert Tilton was grifting the rubes from the pulpit of the Word of Faith Family Church north of Dallas, people used to get on his mailing list because the mailouts were so entertaining. The sheer hard-sell of Tilton’s mailouts was roundly mocked at some of the more hip clubs in Dallas. He’s now blighting the Ft. Lauderdale area, with exactly the same schtick, after being run out of Texas in the 1990s.
Anyway, I thought of that when I read about the RNC mailings. I tried to get on their mail list to do the same thing, but they never sent me anything!

It looks as if the allegations against Paul Babeu are only starting. Now it’s come out that as a headmaster of a boarding school, he engaged in a disciplinary practice in which students were forced to take off their clothes and wear nothing but a sheet. Also, he’s being accused of dating a student, by both former students and his sister. He’s responding by smearing his sister. Another closet case bites the dust.

@Roger Moore: Yep. I’m really glad that gay democrat congressional stooge threw away his chances on sherrif showboat.

Has anyone considered the supreme irony of all these superPACs spending so much money? They will inadvertently jump-start the economy because they are spending their hoarded loot!

yeah, we were getting robocalls probably 4-5 times a day. I went in and voted for santorum to try get him over the hump, and because at least one of his robocalls didn’t come at 9:15 at night, waking up our two young children.
