Wednesday Morning Open Thread

Thanks to commentor THE for this morning’s moment of Zen.

Our correspondents at Occupy Missoula could use some help.

Website for Thursday’s Nov. 17 Mass Day of Action here.

Greg Sargent at his Washington Post Plum Line blog reports that AFL-CIO chief Richard Trumka says that “organized labor will continue standing with evicted protestors“: “The question of whether organized labor can succeed in tying the protests to a larger working class constituency is still unanswered. But Trumka seems to be confident that the protesters’ message will continue to resonate among the working class rank and file, despite the mounting imagery of cops clashing with them across the country.”

The Guardian has a fellow activist’s op-ed on “Scott Olsen, Occupy Oakland’s soldier for peace“.

And finally, after heaping praise on Police Commissioner Kelly’s “minutely planned raid“, the NYTimes permits itself to report that “other sites hope N.Y. raid will energize cause“, while seeking “new paths to influence“…

What else is (should be) on the agenda?

Hey Chris or arguingwithsignposts if either of you is still up, the thread in which you thought lokoloko had left without getting the last word? She came back two hours after Chris’ last post and tooted out some silly blather.

True to form and all that. I had to laugh a little. And with that I am off to bed…

    Cool, you noticed.

Here is a more conventional choral version of Jesu Joy of Man’s Desiring by J.S.Bach.

But I thought the very same thing: The Touch Wood advert is pure Zen.

So here you are, J. S. Bach, Sebastian to your friends, knocking off the latest in a series of something like 400 cantatas on a weekly basis, just to show the good people of Leipzig that you’re not the third-rater they thought you were when they hired you (because Telemann wouldn’t do the gig), and someone comes along and says, in three hundred years some folks in Japan will build an enormously long xylophone (not that you’ve ever heard of that) to play this tune, this very tune you’re grinding out today in a hurry, in order to advertise cell phones made with wood (don’t ask). Priceless? Speechless.

Amazon tells me that my Kindle Fire will be here today. I’ll be reading what I can on how it is being received. A pal in LA got his yesterday and he has been having great fun fooling around with it.

why haven’t i heard anything about the poor vet who was left to suffer, puke, crawl and defecate on himself for 18 hours in an Oakland jail with a lacerated spleen before getting any medical help, after being attacked by police? this is even worse than Scott Olsen and nothing. i’m sorry, but this still sticks in my craw.

    “Welcome President Romney”

It has been an unequal contest for years. The Republicans throw at the opposition a West Coast offense, augmented by discreet side payments to the refs. They come at you non-stop from all angles, lots of misdirection and look to bend the rules at every opportunity. They have a lust for power and are ruthless about winning. The Democrats spend their time in dull retreats attending dreary workshops on Single Wing adjustments and the risks of switching to the T formation while quaffing refreshments donated by corporate sponsors.

But Trumka seems to be confident that the protesters’ message will continue to resonate among the working class rank and file, despite the mounting imagery of cops clashing with them across the country.

Despite? How about because of the “mounting imagery” of cops frothing at the mouth?
