Here are a couple of links that might be of interest to Juicers:
* Find a Food Pantry (www.findafoodpantry.org)
We’ve already got information on about 10,000 food pantries, more than twice as many as any previous effort, but only about a third of the national total. So, if any BJ’ers who are involved in some way with food pantries in their communities wanted to visit the site and add or update the listing for said pantr(ies), that would be excellent. It would also be great if any readers who had their own blogs posted a similar opportunity for their readers, both in terms of spreading the word, and in terms of helping make the site easier to find via Google, etc.
* On October 22, the Allegan County Michigan United Way’s Volunteer Medical Corps will be holding a free clinic. They’re looking for medical professionals to volunteer. There’s a number and more information at the link.
As I mentioned last week, if you send me your legit organization or activity, I’ll pimp it on Friday. Don’t be shy.

There’s one in Brookings, OR. I don’t know the address, but the wife
and I contribute on a regular basis.
The wife and I support a free clinic here as well. I helped build it and she helps to ‘man’ it.
You’ve never heard of Brookings. Lovely spot. Lots of folks living under bridges.
We’ve got a dental van that shows up a couple of times a month as well.
I wish we could do more.

Here is the link to the Midcoast Hunger Prevention Program. So many of my friends volunteer for this agency and our church gives from our weekly collection to support their good works!
Balloon Juicers bonus: Hinkley the big black lab is their agency mascot. You will find a little photo of him on the site.

Remember Curry Todd, the TN state rep who was responsible for our guns in bars law, arrested for DUI with a loaded .38 Special in his car? The Tennessean wants to know if he should resign. Can we tell them yes?

Thank you for the link. I’ll probably be using it in the near future.

There’s an organization here in GA that takes in animals of women fleeing domestic violence. They cover vet care for animals injured in DV situations(this happens ALOT more than people realize, the abuser will threaten to or actually hurt or kill the pet if the victim doesn’t comply to demands or tries to leave)and provide shelter for pets til victims can find safety for themselves.
Ahimsa House is always in need of cash donations and supplies. You can also send them an email at [email protected] for more information.

My wife and I frequently buy a few cans of soup or vegetables or boxes of cereal to drop off in the barrel for the local food pantry when we grocery shop. It is easy to do and has become part of our routine.

Thank you for the great Food Pantry link. Really sad that we need so many of the mostly wonderful orgs helping to feed people.
I take people of various mental, intellectual and physical disabilities to these food pantries – disability checks do not cover much expenses these days – I have seen my state raise their Medical Co-Pays — even though we have the Most Expensive and Over-staffed, State Legislature still getting Free Cars, Free Health benefits, free lunches, and many more free perks.
Thank You to All who donate and volunteer.

I tried to add the soup kitchen we run. The web site doesn’t work at all. The contact link returns an error.

@Commenting at Ballon Juice since 1937:
I’m sorry the site didn’t work properly for you – we’ve had a number of other people successfully add or update pantries today, and I just tested the contact link and had it work normally, so I’m not quite sure what the problem is; but if you can tell me what browser (name and version please) you’re using, I’ll take a stab at recreating it. If you could copy/paste the error the contact page gave you as well, that would be even better.
Also, if you’d like to e-mail me information on your soup kitchen, I’ll add it to the site myself. My e-mail is jethomas(at)npiinc.org.
Thanks,
Jeff Thomas

Can we not use ‘pimp’ as a nice term? It’s not like other mean words that can get reclaimed in such a way they become positive for the people previous victimized by the term. Pimps have real victims.

Thanks! I’m always looking for new stuff for my blog, so I added it to an entry on food pantries from last August.

Don´t forget mine, por favor (www.bista.org).
I´m here in Tela, now, at the Blanca Jeanette Kawas Bilingual School. I raise money to pay the wages of the English speaking teachers here. I can´t raise money directly for the school yet, since they´re still working on getting papers from the Honduran government that deems them to be non-profit. But they run the school as a non-pofit all the same, and for each teacher I can support, that gives the school $200 each month they can use for other things like scholarships (they have 119 students and 60 of them get part or full scholarships).
And my organization is a 501(c)3. Bilingual Schooling for Tela, Atlántida.

Just to let you know I tried it again a few hours later and it seemed to work fine.
