Maybe it’s because I saw “My Fair Lady” last weekend and have been listening to a lot of show tunes all week, but I got not one but two fundraising emails from Marcus Bachmann today. It looks like the Bachmann campaign may be going bankrupt.
This proves that the grown-ups are still in charge of the Republican party. Good news for Mitt Romney!
Baud
I think it proves that Bachmann has been out-maled in the race for the wingnut vote.
jwb
All it means is that the Perry deployment worked as planned and the Koch brothers pulled their funding from Bachmann.

I thought I read a month or two ago that she was raising tons of money. Did Marcus blow it all on rentbois?
Mustang Bobby
You must have set off Marcus’s gaydar by listening to all those show tunes.

Chris Christie is poised.

There is too much win in this post title. I’m going to bed.

Now she’ll have to come back to her district and try to convince everyone that she’s been working hard for them in DC.

Whew. I can’t abide musicals.

Listening to show tunes will get you fundraising emails from Marcus Bachmann? I have never been so glad to be allergic to show tunes as I am now.
Alex S.
I actually think that a good chunk of her voters will go to Rick Santorum. Though she’s probably down to about 5% of national support, so it won’t change much.
beltane
If you watch “La Cage aux Folles” does it mean Marcus will personally come to your home seeking donations?
Baud
Oh, he’ll be stopping by, all right, but it won’t be donations he’ll be seeking…

@beltane:
The original or that crappy Robin Williams remake?

There’s a place for her.
Somewhere…

dude, it’s FAR AWAY eyes, not batshit-crazy-on-speed eyes.

@Big Baby DougJ: Nothing but the real deal will do for Marcus.

Bachman is completely insane, as would be any notion she could be president. I wouldn’t say the grown ups are in charge of the GOP, but there seems to be some effort to control of how much rope to give the tea tards. I think that is why Boehner et al, turned over the debt ceiling limit raising to Obama until after the election.
They are in a delicate dance, seems to me, with feeding the monster they created, just enough red meat to keep them from turning on their masters, but not so much that mainstreams the politically suicidal ideas that Bachmann represents, and that crazy 27 percent of the voting public that the GOP must have to win.
I think people on both sides are underestimating the huge schism that currently exists in the GOP, that is manifested best by it’s Speaker of the House profoundly unable to pass rational conservative legislation without democratic votes, in a totally majoritarian chamber of congress.
I believe we will see this dark and deep schism more apparent and unveiled as we near election day, when efforts to keep it hidden will give way to the stresses of a POTUS election, with the details still dependent on who the wingers pick as the nominee.
And the paradox is, that whether the wingers pick someone who can compete in a general election, or someone like Perry, that sates the tea tard nihilism, will not serve to close this schism. It will only highlight which side is most disappointed with their lot.

@Alex S.:
I think they’re going to Cain. Dude’s in third place now.
There is a man, a certain man
Alex S.
@Mark S.:
Thanks, I hadn’t read that before. Funny how Romney is stuck under 25%. Mr. Cain has to be considered VP-material now.

The best part of My Fair Lady is “On the Street where you live” sung by Jeremy Brett. His Sherlock was the best in the world. Just like Marcus he was gay (or possible bi; dunno for sure; just like Marcus!!)
Comrade Kevin
Trebles all round!
Jenny
These reports are coming from the Galtian establishment propaganda organs Politico and NYPost, on the eve of the 3rd quarter fundraising deadline, which means they’re probably misinformation (rat-fucking) designed to dissuade donors from contributing.
Big Baby DougJ
@Jenny:
Why is Marcus mass-emailing people then? I think it must be true.
Comrade Kevin
@Big Baby DougJ: The question I have is, Why are you on a Michele Bachmann mailing list?
Big Baby DougJ
@Comrade Kevin:
For kicks.
Mark S.
@Helen:
This one’s my favorite song from My Fair Lady. It’s probably a favorite of Marcus’ as well:
With a little bit of luck, with a little bit of luck
You can see the bloodhound don’t find out!
Jenny
@Big Baby DougJ: I said “probably misinformation”.
But they all do mass mailing on the eve of quarterly deadlines.
During 2006 election cycle, Hillary’s Senate campaign used to routinely send me urgent, dire, alarmist emails on the eve of every fundraising deadline, even though she had no competition and led in the polls by 50 percent.

It’s the seekret Muslim plan to silence this brave defender of America. Doncha know Hezbullah is in league with the Cubans, and planning to deploy Iranian missiles off the coast of Florida?

@Roy G: Ya know when I saw that and before it with the “inoculations cause retardation” I thought, At what point do we say “K-bai – YOU SUCK” How much SHIT is enough for someone (WHO? dunno) to kick them to the curb?

@Helen: Jeremy Brett sang that? Wow!
It is a great song.

Work’s been too slow lately, as in everybody worked just one (1!) day last week. Change is easier to make happen in fat times I think, so I’m waiting until it picks up. But I do have one other guy on board, which is a lot in a company of like 12 people. Yeah, I mean, I’m not organizing a coal mine or anything over here. Thanks for asking!
Amir Khalid
I thought the post headline was a Rolling Stones reference, especially since DougJ was writing about The (old) Girl With Faraway Eyes.
bjacques
I would totally watch Michelle Bachmann in “Grey Gardens: The Musical.”
@Roy G 30: Well, obviously she was getting too close to the truth!
Paul in KY
@beltane: No, it means you get Marcus in drag. I will assume you don’t want that.
