If I play my music really loud and keep sipping this martini, I can barely hear the screaming from the Libya threads…

I’m eagerly awaiting the Trent Reznor/Karen O cover of The Immigrant Song.
What a fantastically done trailer, particularly on the big screen.
MattR
@Martin: Because you said Immigrant Song.
Comrade Mary
@MattR: Because I knew what your link was before I even clicked on it.
Martin
Here’s the most proper version still available.
I sent a copy of that to my son when he away at camp for a week in 6th grade.
Comrade Kevin
@MattR: Oh yes, that video. It absolutely rules. And now, Fishbone.
MattR
@Comrade Mary: Wow that is loud. Glad I was smart enough to turn my speakers way down before starting it. Neighbors would not have been happy at 2:30 am :)
@Martin: Ahh, thanks. Figured the Internet had to have a “clean” version available somewhere but was too lazy to do much searching.
(EDIT: Should I be worried that this video was one of the top “recommended for you” choices on Youtube)
Ian
I am currently watching the killing fields. It is a movie about the genocide in Cambodia in the 1970s. What strikes me the most is the striking similarities between the Khmer Rogue and the modern tea party.
A great quote in the movie- ‘only the silent survive’.
Let us see which if any of the reasonable republicans survive

@MattR: Oh, that’s one of freddiew’s videos! He’s dreamy.

Comrade Kevin
@Ian: That movie is amazing. The real star of the movie, Haing Ngor, was murdered in Los Angeles. Depressing that he survived survived the Khmer Rouge, only to be killed by a couple of gangsters in the US.
Martin
@Comrade Kevin: American Exceptionalism, bitches!
Yutsano
If yer gonna go old school no sense in being half-hearted about it.
And a little something for mi famiglia. If wifey ever comes for air while expanding international ape-simian relations.
(edited cuz I fergot a word.)
Amir Khalid
@Comrade Kevin:
Haing Ngor won a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for playing Dith Pran — which, critics noted at the time, was in fact the lead role in The Killing Fields. His own story as a refugee from Cambodia was at least as harrowing as Pran’s.
ImJohnGalt
While you’re on the topic of Cambodia, I remember reading this story a couple of years ago poolside at the Roosevelt Hotel in LA, and openly weeping by the end.
ImJohnGalt
Christ, I just read the final two paragraphs (I know it’s long, but *please* don’t skip to the end without reading the whole thing), and the hairs on my arms stood on end and the tears welled up again. I remembered exactly how it ended, two years later.
Polar Bear Squares
I prefer DJ Khaled.
Origuy
@Amir Khalid: Spaulding Gray, who had a small role in The Killing Fields, made a movie, Swimming to Cambodia, about making The Killing Fields. He drowned in the East River of NYC, apparently a suicide.
Dennis SGMM
Just to be different, I give you Jetman Flight at Grand Canyon West.

@Origuy:
I hadn’t heard about Gray. What a shame.

Crank up the Slim Whitman and rock out, Sarah!

That first song isn’t very bubblegummy.
Then again, whenever I think of bubblegum music, I tend towards Aqua or Caramell. Poppy, cute, and rarely serious.

I’m going to be a musical pedant. I won’t use that convention of “I hate to,” because I enjoy music geeking.
That mash-up is not bubblegum. Missy Elliott and Adele do not qualify as bubblegum pop artists. Elliott isn’t even pop, and there’s an argument that Adele isn’t, either. Add in the Swan Lake, and you’re so far outside that zone you’re looking at it from the next ballpark over. It’s a mash-up, which is its own genre and that is an exemplary sample of the form. (And Britney has I think escaped bubblegum, but she used to do it so it’s kind of a push.) And for the record, I respect bubblegum pop as much as the Ramones ever did. If you know why they did what they did, you’ll know I”m not giving a backhanded compliment. If you’re looking at me funny, Bubblegum Music is the Naked Truth will be an enlightening read. It was for me.

@Off Colfax: Try Bis.

Missy Elliott is so hot.

The PomPomPom girl needs to get together and collaborate with the Studio Killers.
Be like taking LSD & MDMA & then washing it down with purple pixie sticks & a Mountain Dew.
HI
Thank you, Paul Ryan’s Dirty Sockpuppet, for introducing me to School Food Punishment. I liked the songs. Then I learned that a member of School Food Punishment was influenced by a band called Spangle call Lilli line. I tried their songs like this and this and I liked them, too.
For something a little different, how about this or this?
