This mashup is doing it for me tonight. I should advise ignoring the video unless you have an anime obsession – it’s the only youtube version of the track I could find.
What else should I be listening to?

Wye Oak

A Tribe Called Quest
those are your only two options
Jewish Steel
If this is the kind of mash-up you like then you should get on board with Bootie.

Yutsano
Are they on Nemec yet?
The meet-up was a fucking blast and a half. I’ll let others comment here but good booze good food and great company.
And who put the quarter in UCT?
Jewish Steel
@Yutsano: Jealous! What a great time of year to be in the NW too. When I am wealthy, I will summer there.
eemom
@Yutsano:
pix pix pix??
inquiring minds wish to know……exactly HOW handsome of a devil are you??
Violet
@Yutsano:
Sounds fun! How many folks turned up?
KCinDC
Latest song I’ve been listening to: “Adieu”, by 17 Hippies.
Lojasmo
Kate bush. Anything by Kate,
Also in the PNW, but in Portland until Monday. Damn, and blast.
Yutsano
For a Hollywood vanity band, 30 Seconds to Mars doesn’t suck as much as expected.
@eemom: Thanks. I’m blushing now.
@Violet: 6 BJers plus relative spousal units. Not a big crowd, but just enough to be rowdy and such.
MikeJ
@Jewish Steel: If you want to summer here, today was it.
We tricked Sobeale into thinking it was sunny and 85 all the time here.
Yutsano
@MikeJ: Methinks she’ll get a true taste of the weather up here while she’s up in Canuckistan. At least that’s the rumor. And dammit I have a must-have restaurant list for Vancouver too. I think I’ll drop that over at her place. Plus she has to go to the place where my wedding that will never happen will be. :)
Jewish Steel
@MikeJ: All my Seattle mates were posting pics on fb today. Looked like a dynamite day.
Violet
@Yutsano:
Sounds like fun!
@MikeJ:
Now is the time to visit Seattle, that’s for sure. Now through mid-September can be gorgeous.
CaseyL
Seconding Yutsano and MikeJ on what a gas the Seattle BJ Meetup was. It was so much fun that SouthernBeale and Mr. SouthernBeale came all the way from Nashville (I kid: they happen to be vacationing here now, and the timing was fortuitous). We plied them with booze and food and way too many suggestions about where to eat and what to see while in Seattle.
It was great fun, and something well worth doing again!
sfinny
I’m jealous. Seattle is one of many places that I want to visit, but haven’t yet. Happy you all had a good time though.

Because, according to the Internet Traditions it must be said…
We now return you to your regularly scheduled Open Thread.

Well, now, y’all Seattlites need to come to the Music City.
And congratulate me, because I just bought a MacBook Pro! First new computer in yonks.
Yutsano
@hamletta:
I’d go. I’d love to see Nashville and experience all the music and the history there. Plus I’d take the opportunity to prove once and for all that Kenny Chesney is gay.
Violet
@Yutsano:
Was he the one who married Renee Zellwegger and then they annulled their marriage after a short while?
Comrade Kevin
Nice to hear that the Seattle meet-up was enjoyable. The Minneapolis one back in June was also a blast.
Steeplejack
@Yutsano:
WTF?! We’ve heard exactly nothing so far. Give us something.
Yutsano
@Violet: That would be the one. The mystery deepens since the marriage was annulled due to “fraud”. And hos public comments have been mushy at best and highly elusive at worst. And she won’t discuss it at all.
Valdivia
Sia. Just saw her in concert at the 9:30 club in DC and she is awesomely cooky on stage and her music rocks.
Violet
@Yutsano:
I remember that “fraud” thing. It was very odd. Who annuls a marriage these days? I figured she was the gay one. You figure it’s him? He’s the one who always wears the hat, right? I don’t even know what he looks like. He’s a guy with a cowboy hat. LOL.
Valdivia
@Yutsano:
Jealous! When is the DC meetup happening?
Steeplejack
@hamletta:
Congratulations! You are truly moving up in the world. Don’t forget us little people.
Steeplejack
@Violet:
She had a relationship with Jim Carrey. [shudder] That should explain a lot.
Sarah Proud and Tall
@Yutsano:
I admit I have a soft spot for The Kill (Bury me), despite its title being one of the most pretentious things ever.
eemom
@Valdivia:
let’s make it happen. After Labor Day p’raps?

@Steeplejack:
…..and if you’re in NoVa we shall expect you to join us. (I’m in NoVa too.)

Yutsano
@Steeplejack: Okay details.
I was fashionably late (but not the last arrival) so when I walked into the bar the host knew right where to take me after I said I was looking for a group of people. We were split between two booths facing each other and introductions went around. We imbibed and laughed and griped and acted, well, like BJers. I can say that CaseyL is a fiery beautiful redhead and MikeJ is a delightful guy. Opie Jeanne is gonna end up being like my fourth or fifth mom, and SoBeale is very much the Southern lady we expected. Dollared came later and left early but he had plans.* Since the restaurant was literally right next door we hobbled right on over. MikeJ promptly got annoyed with me for taking the last pork tamale, but I’ll make it up to him later. The conversation and laughter continued as we ate outside and shared observations and stories and such. I meant to do more liveblogging but, well, we were all caught up in the company and fun.
That’s the gist anyway.
*(note to the BJers present: no I haven’t forgotten. I’m just waiting for the opportune moment to mention it.)
Dead Earnest
What else to listen to? Well SP&T, only because I follow Maggie Koerth.Baker at BoingBoing, today I was introduced to Professor Elemental and his ChapRap tune ‘Fighting Trousers’; via Maggie/BoingBoing:
http://boingboing.net/2011/08/19/fighting-trousers-quality-victorian-parody-rap-video.html
Now I should also prePologize to any and all who have been aware of Chap Rap, the Professor and his rival, Mr B The Gentleman Rhymer Straight Outta Surrey, as it turns out this British Lords version of Hip Hop has been going on for several years. For me, who pretty well veered away from Pop culture around the time of The Guess Who and American Woman, it was a delightful find.
Enjoy.
Valdivia
@eemom:
Perfect. Around that date we can set it up here!

@cleek: I saw Wye Oak open for The Decemberists back in January. I hope they’re better in the studio than onstage. They have talent, but all of their material seems to follow a distinct template, and all ran together into much of a muchness.

@Sarah P&T (OP): This mashup (found via another of my fave blogs, Making Light) had me rolling with laughter, since it mashes two songs I play myself. I think I’ll have a go at it, the next time I’m performing.

For those into SF/F, the Hugo Awards ceremony was streamed live from Renovation (Worldcon) this evening. There’s a recording of it still up, at http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/16783348 (Two caveats: (1) UStream plays a nonskippable commercial ad before the actual content and (2) the ceremony doesn’t start until about 35 minutes into the thing.)
To avoid posting a long list of the winners, the list of winners can be found at http://renovationsf.org/ (for now). Congratulations are due to them all (although I would have voted differently in most cases where I knew the nominees!).

Anyone know Les Negresses Vertes? Love them, especially “L’homme Des Marais”. And “Voila L’ete”. Oldies but goodies.

@Paul Ryan’s Dirty Sockpuppet: I watched 50 seconds of that. Does it continue on that way, or does it get weirder?
