Not intended as a Tea Party metaphor, unless you really want it that way. Who doesn’t appreciate a nice goat-blood-scented bath bomb, after a long day’s labor?

Speaking of rest & relaxation, what’s on everyone’s agenda tonight?

I’m going to play TF2 and watch Game Show Network the rest of the day after I get off work, because damned if I’m going to read any more politics shit and give myself an aneurysm before bed.

Doesn’t the Latin really mean “left snake ape”?
Is this a Hamsher thread?

Aren’t they all here? I’m sure someone will be along soon to tell us all about how the comments there are going, and what they are outraged about.

Thinking of killing a hungry day at the flicks. Is Captain ‘Merka any good?

The commentariat has been really grumpy today. I’m going to try to do something cheerful, like watch a movie about death and damnation.

@Corner Stone: Actually, I don’t think we’ve had a true Hamsher thread for days. We’ve been too busy yelling at/past each other.
Linda Featheringill
@Amir_Khalid:
I’ve heard that Captain America is entertaining but don’t know myself.

Carry over from last thread:
Wife got a jury summons for US District Court. She cares for the kids, so she’s an easy out of it, but how interesting are cases at that level? I’m thinking she might enjoy this if I can work out a way to deal with the critters. I’ve gotten state superior and municipal court before, but never U.S.

I’ve had a terrible headache all day today. I’ve tried aspirin and caffeine, which usually works, but this time it didn’t. I think I’m going to go the gym. Maybe a workout will clear out some toxins or something. No idea why I’ve got it. I wish it would go away.

She’s on the Game Show network?
I’m gonna have to check my DirecTV schedule ….

@Amir_Khalid: If it’s available in your area, SUPER 8 is really, really fun. You know the fillum critics who say it’s ‘just like an ET-era Spielberg movie?‘ They’re right, and that’s a good thing!
(P.S. for pet people: The Spousal Unit noticed a line in the closing credits to the effect that the dogs used in the film were all rescues who now have homes as a result.)

Is it weird that I want to see “Cowboys vs Aliens” because a friend of mine told me that Daniel Craig looks REALLY good in his chaps! Question: Do real cowboys wear their chaps that tight???
Hmm!

Encore is running Part 2 of a very good 2010 version of “Moby Dick” starring William Hurt and Gillian Anderson.

@Martin:
The problem with USDC is that the cases are all over the place. You can catch a constitutional dispute. Or you can catch a document-intensive case (government contracts disputes, Medicare fraud) that goes on for weeks and is of interest only to the true geek. Or you can catch the Mexican Mafia case and spend the rest of your life looking over your shoulder if you vote to convict. I would beat USDC jury duty in this district at all costs.

Alright, IDK if ya’ll care, but I love Adele, and so I was posting videos of hers on my FB page. I’d read somewhere that her “Rolling In The Deep” song was being played on the urban stations in NOLA. Now “Rolling In The Deep” does have some soulful undertones, but “urban” it is not!
Well my cousin send me the following link to “Rolling In The Deep”. It is a version of the song with a “bounce” beat underneath, and I just had to share it cause it made me smile. I like music than can transcend genre (the very first time I heard George Michael’s “Careless Whisper” was on my local “quiet storm” R&B station) and this just made me laugh.

Bath balm. Not “bomb.” Balm.
I feel the author of this comic may have made an error.

@BGinCHI:
Serpens simiae sinistra is good Latin, morphologically. But it’s nonsense. “Left/improper/adverse/inauspicious, snake of the monkey.” or ditto, “in the monkey’s left hand?” Uh-huh.
And thanks to BJ for maintaining a robust, in-house, pedantry capacity when other blogs are outsourcing theirs.

@John O:
You should really have that looked at.
My agenda this evening? Writer’s block, wine, bed. Ugh.
Amir_Khalid
@Anne Laurie: Super 8 has already ended its run here in KL. I saw it and, yes, it was a treat. JJ Abrams is great with the kids, the best since the master himself did ET and The Goonies, and they’re the best part of the whole thing. Especially their movie, which plays during the end credits.
Take Me Home Tonight is also playing here right now. I saw the trailer, which makes it look like a stinker.
Martin
@burnspbesq:
Ok, cool, thanks. It’s an easy out for her, but she tends to like doing stuff like jury duty if it’s interesting. If it were a govt. contract dispute, I’d probably have to medicate her before it was over.

Well, there was that Casey Anthony case. Or she could sit in a room for a day and be dismissed. Sort of a crap shoot, really.

@Davis X. Machina: You’re welcome.
If it’s wrong to correct poor Latin, then I don’t want to be right.
Martin
@arguingwithsignposts:
That applies to all jury summons. If it was dominated by Casey Anthony cases that could be interesting. I think we’ll have her give the excuse based on burnsey’s advice, given his local experience.

You know it would be way cool if during the reading of one of these Teabagger bills in Congress there was a puff of brimstone and some guy in red tights and plastic pitchfork appeared out of thin air right there on the House floor. Law so evil it’s wording summons the Devil.

If anyone needs a political chill pill, I’d recommend Jonathan Bernstein’s latest. Basically, the latest poll numbers on spending mean nothing for liberalism’s long-term prospects.

Al Sharpton is sparring with nasty old Pat Buchanan. Pat said to Al, “Obama, your boy,…..Sharpton reacted with, “My what?”.
Buchanan does this stuff deliberately or it just comes natural or both.
BGinCHI
@bemused: Sharpton and Buchanan should have a crossfire-type show but both of them would be armed.
Quality 5 minutes of TV.

I also hear that Cowboys & Aliens has a bad case of Hollywood cockamaminess: a western and an alien-invasion movie, neither very original by itself, clumsily glued together to make one really dumb movie. Well, that seems to be the general tone at RottenTomatoes.com. Should I check it out anyway?
Davis X. Machina
@BGinCHI: I believe there was talk about an attempt to move Aquilani – Fiorentina is supposed to be interested.

Unless you can think of another Hollywood movie that’s not trite, contrived, cliched, cynical, a sequel, a remake, a comic book or otherwise pathetic, why not? It looks like fun to me. I like Daniel Craig in just about everything. Plus Harrison Ford!

@Davis X. Machina: Whichever club buys Aquilani is going to have to either pay the absurdly high salary he was getting at Liverpool, or get him to settle for what he’s really worth. As I understand, that’s been the difficulty in offloading him.

@Davis X. Machina: If so, he looked pretty frisky. I’d say get some money out of him. I don’t think he can take a whole year of EPL. He’s fragile.
L’pool has great young talent and I hope it can be harnessed this year. I wish we had Mascherano back though: we need a tough midfielder.

@MattF: That ought to be really good.
So glad they finally got off their asses and put out a new one.
Give the recent self-titled Mount Moriah record a listen. Some affinities with Welch/Rawlings, but with a little more alt country.
Comrade Colette Collaboratrice
@Martin: Meh, mine was a guy accused of being a convicted felon in possession of ammunition (not the gun to go with it). All the witnesses were cops. It was brilliantly clear that they were lying, but also that he was a bad guy and they wanted him put away for something. I couldn’t figure it out. Trial took one day – pretty dull, but it got me off the hook for subsequent jury duty for a year. Only later did I realize that the reason the defendant looked vaguely familiar was not that he resembled some half-remembered actor, but because he lives in my neighborhood. Haven’t seen him since, anyway.
Cat Lady
I just had a bowl of corn flakes and a glass of white wine, and really, it wasn’t all that bad. Is there such a thing as an intervention for a food slut?
Comrade Colette Collaboratrice
@Cat Lady: How low-class. Everyone knows rosé is the proper wine match with cold cereal. The real question is, what wine goes with cat food?
bemused
@BGinCHI:
That would be interesting but Pat wouldn’t do it. Rachel Maddow called him out on a couple of things, once Pat told a woman to shut up. He did appear on her show right at the beginning but that was it. I don’t think the bigoted, sexist worm enjoys getting schooled by women or anyone not white and pure as himself.
