Does anyone else remember the good old days when wingnuts were just pissed off about Rachel Ray’s scarves and not actively trying to wreck the country’s finances?
I think I am grilling a ribeye, pouring a scotch, and watching Torchwood. I can’t take anymore. And yes, I know it is only 5 o’clock.

John,
I know you bring up Peak Wignut every so often as a joke or whatnot. But as of the Debt Ceiling fight, you owe us all a serious fucking apology for that theory.

I am new to Torchwood and love it!!

I’ve never watched Torchwood, can someone list off a few reasons I might want to (real question, for instance I love both Firefly and Deadwood, just don’t know this show). Also, I hope I’m having steak tonight too.
And fuck Tim F.’s “anonymous Congressional aide” sourcing freak out, he should know better.
BGinCHI
Has Torchwood gotten any better? Tried to like the first season but it just didn’t take. It’s a Wales thing, so I want to like it….
Also, too, has anyone seen the film “Valhalla Rising”? It’s streaming on Netflix.
Jim, Foolish Literalist
“only 5 o’clock”? Whattayou, religious or somethin’?
I quit watching Torchwood after a few seasons. A British critic whose name escapes me summed up my feelings: “More monsters. Less weeping.”

It is like a sweeping scene From Gone With The Wind, that ended up on the cutting room floor.
The bullshit is flying fast and furious in these last moments, and it looks like Obama has called the party’s into his hurt locker, but separately, to get a bottom line from them. They are not even close to any deal, and this was probly set in concrete from day one.
Some wingnut mentioned impeachment, and how much fun to do that again, together with the wingers don’t want to have anything at all to do with raising the debt ceiling, to not get drawn and quartered by the teatards and Grover. Chickenshits, just like with HCR, and a bunch of other stuff, too afraid to do their jobs, and pushing it off on the POTUS.

No steak for me. Tonight it’s grilled pork chops with blueberry sauce and a nice Macon-Village.

I was a low info voter then and didn’t really pay attention. I remember thinking, “I hate scarves like that”

LOL! As an Old Guy, I know that I’ve made it through the Cold War, Berkeley in the Sixties, SERE school, a year in the Mekong Delta, raising an autistic son, and gum surgery. Me and mine will make it through whatever comes next.

If the Brits go through with cleansing themselves of Murdoch, is it too late to ask them to take the Colonies back? Also, too give France back the Louisiana Purchase if we get that sweet socialized health insurance.

The Guardian has posted a poll that shows 73% of Americans want the Justice Department to investigate Fox News. 27% of Americans presumably want to proclaim Rupert Murdoch as the Glorious Leader of the Christian Freedom Anti-Sharia League. When will the men in the white suits come and take these 27%ers away?

Friends coming over. Double thick bone-in rib steaks seared then smoked on the Weber, chimichurri sauce, watermelon, tomato and feta salad, some green or other (the vegetable kind, not the animal) and a bunch of red wine is on order. Possibly g-and-ts or pomegranate cosmopolitans while the fire is getting going.
Oh, and yes, I’d not mind sane crazies in opposition.

I think there is a need to mine the parasite world for epithets, metaphors and similes for US politics. Before now, some would say that would be uncivil. But now, only Very Serious People would question it, so it is the right thing to do.

Once again, I’d say any prognostications of peak wingnut having past were premature. Heck, I’m not even sure if collapsing the world economy will mark the peak. In their minds, collapsing the world financial system will only PROVE that Obama really was an evil marxist after all.

Torchwood is a spinoff and anagram of Doctor Who. It usually gets into more adult content and darker than DW. The Doctor doesn’t show up in the series, although Captain Jack Harness pops up in DW.

Hunkered down in the man-cave here in NoVa on my day off. Right now it’s 97° with a “feels like” of 113°, according to Weather.com. Even inside the man-cave I can feel the heat. No, this a place for level headed thinkers who do not react like stress puppies over every anonymous rumor that is intentionally leaked for political purposes. Nah, not here. Also, I got my Adele tickets yesterday. They had pre-sales for the new dates added to her re-scheduled ones. They went on sale at 9am & by 9:06am. They were SOLD OUT. At first I thought “ticket scalpers”, but 4 pre-sale tickets, they are only “will call” tics. So u have to bring a print out of ur purchase confirmation, and a photo ID the day is the show to redeem ur purchase. I wasn’t sure how a ticket broker could get around that?

@Paul W.: Eve Myles, for one. She is all kinds of awesome.

Fuuuuu- a new Torchwood season? Nice. I always considered it to be a more realistic (so to speak) Doctor Who. Especially since the current Doctor gives me hives.

It was 100 degrees in Detroit today, with a ‘feel’ of 109. I worked all day with no air conditioning, hauling furniture around and I swear to Bob more liquid went through my shirt than my kidneys. I’d guzzle water and it would just leak right out my skin like I was a sieve.
I hate this weather.

Hey John, pour yourself and extra drink ok?
Because Dan Choi just announced on his facebook that he is considering voting for former republican governor of New Mexico, Gary Johnson.
And this isn’t because Choi is a self-aggrandizing, one-hit wonder who doesn’t give two shits whether anyone else in the country lives or dies. Rather, it’s because, you know, there’s no difference between Obama and any republicans.

@ Dennis SGMM:
When a friend and I go deer hunting we almost always go to the same area where a retired old-school butcher lives. He cuts the bucks and vacuum packages the venison. Supplemental income. He supplies a few restaurants in the area so sometimes he asks to trade us some of the venison for his service. He also raises a few cattle on his little acreage to supply those restaurants. Real nice guy. A vet too.
Two weeks ago he called saying he had a little oversupply asking if I’d want some. Asked how thick I’d like the steaks, how much fat to leave on. Made the drive to pick up for me and a few friends who said they were in. Immediately grilled some of those porterhouses. Telling you, they were better than some sex (pre-SO) I’ve had in the past.
