I gave and I have no problem with it but damn you get bombed with email from every goddamn democrat on earth. Maybe there is somewhere in the donation process where you can opt out of email traffic?

Lots of traffic today…
Everyone’s inside, in front of their computers, trying to stay cool.

Several years ago, I sent McCain an email asking him to oppose the Military Commissions Act, as he was vowing to do even if it cost him the Republican nomination. I still get dead tree fund raising appeals, no e-mails.

@stuckinred: Set up a junk e-mail address. I use my old hotmail account after I switched to g-mail. Never see the junk mail.
I just got back from a Wisconsin recall fundraising happy hour we had in DC. Our little grassroots group DC for Democracy organized it, and the money is going to Democracy for America’s efforts in Wisconsin. We raised at least $1700 from 50 or so people ($935 of it on ActBlue—so far).
We were very happy to have Rep. Tammy Baldwin as our special guest. She inspired us with tales of the Wisconsin revolt against Scott Walker’s madness, and then answered questions. And she’s ready to ready to run for Senate if Feingold decides against running for the open seat.
I’m curious how much big time Democratic money is going into the Wisconsin recalls. Winning it could do a lot to change the “right-wing on the rise” narrative that has dominated national news coverage since summer 2009. And, my naive hope, it may give some Republicans reason to fear.

You’ve identified the reason why I think all the kvetching about the end of American democracy being near is ridiculous–the TPers have already provoked voter backlashes in Wisconsin and Ohio, and the GOP governors are, as a whole, pretty unpopular (Nate Silver had a good post today on how Dem, governors in many McCain states actually have higher approval ratings than their Republican equivalents). It is possible for a right-wing populist movement to take hold in a modern democracy, but they often snuff themselves

Thanks, KCinDC and friends, from a Wisconsinite. Tammy is great, and I’m becoming more and more confident that she might pull off a Senate run. I’d be sad to lose her as my rep., but she’d be a fantastic senator and would take away some of the sting of having Ron Johnson stinking up the joint as the other WI senator. There are enough great people in the district that I’m sure we’d do fine with whoever replaced her (I gather a number of state reps and others have been champing at the bit for a few years, waiting for the opportunity to run for Congress).
It was so great that Dave Hansen won his race this week. I know that his opponent was ridiculous, but it was a definite shot in the arm. It was the same thing with the primaries last week, which seem to have given a number of the Dem candidates a bounce; this week’s Republican primaries had such low turnout that I don’t know that they’ve had a similar effect.
I don’t think I’ll get a decent night’s sleep until mid-August.
Glad to help, kideni! I was able to tell Tammy Baldwin that about 5 years ago in the very same room (in a bar on U Street) I’d been at a low-dollar fundraiser talking to a guy named Jim Webb who managed to get elected to the Senate later that year. Let’s hope it’s a lucky room.

I chipped in my small share. I just wish candidates would not waste my donation on sending me letters. O well. I guess it’s a subsidy for the Post office.
