France. Sweden isn’t going to be able to beat them without Caroline Seger.

Only one shot at goal in the first 20 minutes. Looks dull.

Sweden 1-0 France. Scored Lotta Schelin.
Other football news: Liverpool FC beat Malaysia All-Stars today 6-3 in KL. ‘Pool looked sluggish in the first half against a sharp local team but came back and had control over the second half.

Nice counter by Sweden and a great finish by Schelin. Necib is now out of the game and that can’t be bode well for France.

When I first read this sentence, I thought it was about the debt ceiling business.

Sweden could easily be up 3-0. A free header wasted and a solid save by DeVille on Schelin. France has hit a post. Not a lot of defense being played in the latter stages of the first half.

Comic relief tonight in Los Angeles: Galaxy vs. Real Madrid.

Gahhh!! I hate this. I’m in Australia, the land where rubby never stops and I can’t watch! Even on my computer which I could if I was still in the United States.
Darn it all to heck and back!

The GOP House Leadership! No, wait…

@burnspbesq: Man U got in town a few days ago for Wednesday’s match against the Sounders.

France equalize. One all.
burnspbesq
And France equalizes. Quality finish by Thomis.

Ugh! Necib gets hurt. She leaves a third of the way through the match. I love you, Louisa! See you next year in London at the Olympics. France 1 Sweden 1.
Ha Nguyen
Sweden scores! Despite being a man, or rather woman, down.
A Swedish player had been booted from the game about 15 minutes earlier for fighting on the field.

Sweden 2-1. With championship no longer at stake for either losing semi-finalist, the third-place match is usually just a glorified friendly.

The usually excellent referee (Kari Seitz, US) inexplicably no-called (or missed seeing) a rather blatant instance of deliberate handling in the PA by Swedish defender #6 at the 89the minute. A defender has no business having her arm extended like that when a ball is incoming toward a French attacker and the defender is goalside of the attacker, that still qualifies as “deliberate” handling as that term of art is understood in the soccer laws of the game, irrespective of whether she actually intended her hand to hit the ball or not.
BTW: I have no rooting interest in this game for either side, but I referee soccer and IMHO this is simply a badly missed call by the CR.

@cmorenc:
But see, e.g., Torsten Frings. ;-)

Perhaps change the subject to a game that actually matters? Uruguay has somehow kept level with Argentina through regular full time. I know Muslera has his shortcomings, but he had a couple of terrific saves in the second half. That last one off the deflected free kick was particularly spectacular.
Bill Murray
@burnspbesq
isn’t he Toronto’s new designated player? He probably would still be toxic for a US side to sign
