Due to your hard work, the referendum campaign and its partner organizations already have collected at least 714,137 signatures with thousands more coming in every day. We Are Ohio will deliver the signatures to the Secretary of State on Wednesday, June 29th.
We Are Ohio is inviting our unprecedented number of volunteers and supporters to participate in the “People’s Parade” on June 29th. The People’s Parade is a celebration of your hard work and your role toward overturning SB5, the unfair attack on employee rights and worker safety.
The parade will begin at COSI in Columbus and end at the Ohio Secretary of State’s Building, where We Are Ohio will be holding a press conference to announce the FINAL SIGNATURE NUMBER. Following the press conference, there will be a celebration in Columbus’ downtown park, the Columbus Commons, on High St.
Everyone will begin gathering at COSI for the parade at 10 a.m., and it will officially kick off at noon.
I will not be able to be there, but any of you who circulated or signed a petition (or just always wistfully yearn to be in any parade that passes by) are invited. I bet there will be bagpipes.

Well they picked an auspicious day, as it is Mrs P’s and my 20th anniversary. So while we’ll be 500 miles away we’ll be rooting all you Ohioans on.

Also too, there’s a suspicious -18 minute gap-white space at the top of the post. Did a picture linky blow up perhaps?

I’m seeing a “We are Ohio” logo there, Poopyman.
So it must be you!

Can’t be in Columbus this weekend but always interested in updates. Any news on whether we can block the ballot on SB5 from being split into million different issues? Husted maybe won’t go for it as he refused to endorse the photo ID provision. Not betting he would win the day though if King John’s pals pressure him.

I was going to drive out from California until I read the part about bagpipes.

@Villago Delenda Est:
Firefox letting me down? Say it ain’t so!
ETA: Explorer at least gives me a box outline, but has the little red x at the top of the empty box. I blame my company firewall. (shakes fist)
ETA2: Yes, it was the firewall, but I see the logo now. Thanks for the heads-up!

No, but doesn’t that seem like a fairly desperate maneuver? That they’re trying to save pieces of the bill? So much for defending these deeply principled, popular, bed-rock ideas, huh?
They passed the bill claiming it was absolutely crucial that every piece of Right wing dogma work with every other piece, which is why they couldn’t save their political hides in close union districts by dropping the most offensive Koch-driven portions. Now they’re like, “oh, any part of it is fine, really. Not comprehensive at all”.
They must have (good for us, but bad for them) polling. They think it’s going to pass.

Congratulations! She is a very nice person. Go somewhere good.

not so much desperate as the usual, Divide and Conquer™ bullshit. I’m seeing them pitting the firefighters’ ability to bargain on safety issues against teachers’ seniority pay, for instance. Also, the usual suppression tactic of making the voter slog through 15 pages candidates and judges and then they have to read each and every one of 15 pages of issues. And you know the language will be filled with the usual dogwhistles designed to stick it to the groups they hate the most. It guarantees that only the most batshit crazy 27% will stick it out to the end and actually finish the whole ballot.
Granted, I think the tactic will only piss off the voters more but its a fairly typical maneuver for this crowd. They will be full on channeling Ken Blackwell through this whole election cycle I’m betting.

That’s the alternate explanation.
Mine was probably a little optimistic.
This one was odd for me, because I was too pessimistic rather than overly optimistic, so when I saw last week they had exceeded the number needed, I was genuinely surprised.

that is awesome.
over here in pa the shit show continues. at least there is an effort afoot to get corbett to reconsider pre-emptively competing with ourselves by not taxing the marcellus shale extraction. of course, making him accept this, after his no new taxes pledge is a big step, one that can’t make him popular with his own side.
the plan to save education? fuck the poor! that is our legislative republican mantra. big headlines about how they are restoring cuts in education, not much about doing it by slashing programs for the poor.
my favorite tidbit of pennsylvania politics at its finest? the gambling that is supposed to raise revenue, and ease the tax burden?
one of the impacts of not getting a budget done would be shutting down the casinos because the state gaming board wouldn’t be able to
take bribesdo its job.i am not sure this is what they mean by running government like a business.

Great stuff Kay. Thanks for the posts on this!

@ artem1s:
Earlier today I heard they’re wrestling over who gets the “yes” side vs. who gets the “no” side. Within the past few years, I remember an issue which was worded so that if you supported whatever it was about, you had to vote “no.”
