Because I know not everyone checks the Great Orange Satan, I take the liberty of reposting this awesomely wonderful bit opening the Tony Award broadcast:
<div align=”center”><iframe width=”425″ height=”349″ src=”http://www.youtube.com/embed/-6S5caRGpK4″ frameborder=”0″ allowfullscreen></iframe></div>
Like the theater, everyone is welcome to this thread.
Oh — and feel free to fill in the “they” of your choice as to who just might worry about the freedoms celebrated above.

I missed the actual telecast, but I did catch the video of NPH and Hugh Jackman’s “host-off” dance number. It was fabulous. I watched it at least 3x.
Heck I watched it again when I found the link just now.
Neil Patrick Harris and Hugh Jackman duet at 2011 Tony Awards
I would watch next year of NPH and Jackman hosted together next year!
rob!
Reminds me of this story. Only in Conservotard land is the phrase “All are welcome” controversial.
WereBear
Neil Patrick Harris and Hugh Jackman both RULE.
Especially NPH; all Hugh Jackman had to live down was Wolverine; who is cool.
Violet
Oh my, how I love NPH. Hugh Jackman too. I hadn’t seen this yet. Thanks for posting.
rikyrah
Hugh Jackman is so ….wonderful.
Belafon (formerly anonevent)
@WereBear: Even Hugh’s brief appearance in X-Men: First Class was cool.
Violet
Hey, Tom, just wanted to let you know I bought your “Newton” book for someone as a gift.
Comrade Mary
Therefore: Hugh is a bow tie.
Ellie
You should also watch the wrap-up rap that was written on the fly incorporating stuff that happened during the show. Awesome. LAT link.
Violet
OMG, someone linked to this in a previous thread, but I only just took a look at it. Tags on Amazon for Newt’s latest book. Bwahahahaha!
agrippa
Who is “they” ?
Little Boots
bitches gotta stop. that’s all I’m saying. bitches gotta stop. meaning Wisconsin. It’s getting really, really annoying, this crap. ABL,please tell me I’m right. You know what I’m talking about.
Little Boots
and that’s a wonderful thing, tom, but seriously, Republicans have to stop doing what they do. it’s annoying.
SiubhanDuinne
@Violet #7: I bought Tom’s “Measure for Measure” (for me) a couple of months ago. What a swell writer. And thinker.
Tom L: did you ever give your brother the scotch, or wine, or whatever you had promised him, for the title?
nitpicker
Reason #13,245 that I like being a liberal: If Neal Patrick Harris had said anything similar to his “liberal intellectuals are jews and homosexuals” line about conservatives, Memeorandum would be clogged with whining today.
Little Boots
and incidentally, at Eschaton, they do Adele. which is more awesome. not that it matters, but it matters.
Little Boots
not that I don’t love you, Tom, but Adele. it’s different. think about it.
Kristine
@lamh34: Oh, thanks for posting this. NPH is fine, but Hugh Jackman is amazing.
lamh34
@Kristine:
seriously. If I had the time I’d so google stalk Hugh Jackman, but my google-stalking schedule is full with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Chayanne (Puerto Rican superstar), Rain (Korean superstar) and now Michael Fassenbender (X-Men: First Class)
Tom Levenson
@Violet: May your tribe ever increase!
I hope your friend
forgives your lapse of tasteenjoys the book.jo6pac
Thanks
Little Boots
@Tom Levenson:
and I hope you post awesome music someday. I really do.
Tom Levenson
@SiubhanDuinne: I’m glad you got and enjoyed that book — it was my second, it has flaws (that bother me, if no one else) but I do love it. I bit off more than I can chew, but learned so much writing it.
And yes, I paid my debt to Bacchus and my bro.
Little Boots
tom don’t ignore me. I’m so bitter when I’m ignored.
Adele?
jeff
I had no idea that Neil Patrick Harris had that kind of talent. Wow.
Little Boots
fine, I hate everyone. except neil patrick harris.

Since it’s an open thread, can anyone tell me any alternatives to PayPal that they think are trustworthy? I want to try to start selling some of my art over the internet, but I’ve heard awful things about PayPal’s customer service, and I’m not sure I want to give money to anything that Peter Thiel is even remotely involved with.
Comrade Kevin
So, apparently, someone decided to release Duke Nuke’m Forever, and Ars Technica savages it. There are some rather disturbing comments attached to the article, too, though most seem to agree with the author.
Chad N Freude
NPH is great. Hugh Jackman is great. The opening number is excellent. But for me, the piece of resistance is the number from Copany, the absolute best musical of all time. I saw it during its opening week on Broadway (yeah, I’m old enough to have done that) and have never returned to earth.
Chad N Freude
@Chad N Freude: That should have been “Company” of course. The typo is what you get when you get high on Sondheim.

Fortunately, notwithstanding language in the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, President Obama’s war on habeas corpus and the 4th Amendment, among other former American freedoms, continues in an audaciously fierce manner.

@Chad N Freude: I saw it a little bit later — in fact, after Larry Kert had taken over for Dean Jones — but I still view it as the most ground-shaking night I’ve ever spent in a theatre. Changed my whole view of what was possible (something I’ve tried to live up to, as a playwright myself).
Tom Levenson
@Little Boots: Quien es Adele?
Violet
@Tom Levenson:
I’ll let you know. It hasn’t been opened yet, as the birthday celebration isn’t until the weekend.
Warren Terra
@jeff:
Get thee to Doctor Horrible, stat.
Violet
@jeff:
His guest star turn on “Glee” was pretty good too. “Dream On” and “Piano Man,” IIRC.
TooManyJens
NPH was also the Shoe Fairy on Sesame Street.
Kristine
@Tom Levenson: 19. 21. Brit singer. Great voice.
At least, I think this is the Adele to whom they refer. Could be Fred’s sister, I suppose.
Kristine
@Comrade Mary: Or maybe a fez.
Yutsano
@WereBear: Am I wrong for wanting them to kiss at the end? It’s not like Hugh hasn’t done gay for pay before and NPH, well…BEST. GAY. DAD. EVAR!!
daveNYC
That video was worth dealing with the Tony’s fracking with the traffic in my hood.
I assume the people who write for the Tony awards are not the same ones who write for the Oscars?
opie jeanne
@jeff: My daughter saw him in Rent when it played in LA. She stood in line with a bunch of impoverished students in order to get tickets at a discount, and they were in the front row.
She and the other students were invited backstage for a cast party, and the actors told them that they could see them weeping during the show which made the actors feel wonderful that they had been so moved.
Studly Pantload, now with enhanced schmuckosity
@opie jeanne:
That. Is an awesome story.
Rihilism
@Chad N Freude: My personal preference was Raúl Esparza’s stint as Bobby in 2006 (saw it on PBS). Afraid I don’t think anyone can top his performance though I love NPH (except HIMYM, which I loathe). I plan on seeing the film version of Company tonight (Colbert in Company! I’m wetting my pants already!)
BUT (don’t hate me), no musical can surpass Sweeney Todd which I saw as an impressionable youth…
Nothing’s gonna harm you, not while I’m around.
Nothing’s gonna harm you, no sir, not while I’m around.
Demons are prowling everywhere, nowadays,
I’ll send ’em howling,
I don’t care, I got ways…

BTW, loved the Book of Mormon number. Gotta see that one…
