What a long day. Didn’t get back from the hospital until 7:30, and then had to do some stuff around the house before heading over to a party at my friend’s house. Saw an empty laptop and said to myself- I think I need to check in on the folks.
Actually- I am at the home of Wiley Cash, who hopefully, many of you will know in the near future. He just wrote a book called “A Land More Kind Than Home,” about an autistic boy who is smothered during a church healing service in the 80’s in the western mountains of North Carolina. He signed a two book deal with HarperCollins, so hopefully it will be a hit. He’s a great guy, and we are all super-psyched for him. You can check out the book here at his website. Go check it out if you are interested
At any rate, I am on the bottle with Wiley and others, and we will soon be near the phase where bad 80’s videos will start appearing here.

i have been watching paul ryan on tv. this guy is a mass of “tells” – watch his adam’s apple, his shoulders, angle of his head, blink rate, etc. nearly as bad as bush.

Has the news from Spain gotten much play in the US media? Peaceful protesters in Barcelona were driven out of the plaza they were occupying by violent police, apparently because the plaza is needed for soccer fans Saturday. Priorities!

@Little Boots: There’s puppy pics 3-4 threads down—focus on those—we can’t stop the bus everytime one of you people decide to go take a dump or something.
Right now Cole’s drinking and he’s hanging out with some guy named Wiley (don’t know if the “y” is some lame disguise or not) and “others”. Since it’s W. Virginia we can’t be sure if that means humans or animals (pygmy goats?) but things could get interesting.
Just shaddup for now—we’ll let you know when the action starts.

my 80s video vote goes to Yazoo. Allison Moyet, what a voice.

Adam Ant. Spandau Ballet. Cabaret Voltaire. Talking Heads (probably no really bad videos from them). Stray Cats. The Bangles. The Go Gos.

Their poll numbers are cratering right now, at the sight of these fools painting themselves into a corner with the ideological indulgences related to killing off the most popular of all social programs. The only question is are they willing to crash the economy, or are dems willing to give them benny cuts to medicare right now. They are hoping dems will bail them out of this jam, but I don’t see that happening. Maybe Obama will just declare the debt limit law unconstitutional and deal with it that way. There are legal scholars who think it is. But what a fucking dangerous mess the GOP has lead us all into.

@General Stuck: I wish it would work this way, but why should they bail them out? If they won’t pull the trigger and we need to avoid a shutdown or a debt default? But shit. They put Ryan in charge. They wanted this. They “negotiated” in extremely bad faith two summers ago. I believe they had a plan in it with empty pages. Now healthcare is delivery is the number one problem. I want to see Chuck Grassley this summer pelted with eggs for the obnoxious crap he pulled, playing the “death panels” meme to the crowds back home while pretending to negotiate.
Not gonna happen, though. Summer is here, Bibi is upset, so we’ll be spending all of our time on the defensive, looking for muslims on the home front again like last year.
