Nobody knows exactly how Cora’s life began, although if she started out in a fighting ring you can tell why they gave up. In a world where dogs competed for bellyrubs, treat begging and general adorableness the little fireplug pit bull would be worth a million dollars. An afternoon with Cora usually follows this template: her mom takes off the leash, Cora runs four or five crazy figure 8’s and then waddles over to the nearest shin, leans on it and looks up to ask whether maybe you have a bellyrub lying around that you’re not using. When she gets her way the happy waves that she gives off are just about blinding.
Cora is an older dog now. She has moved on from those early days with whoever abandoned her and the litter that she most likely had on the streets, to a happy retirement as a lapdog at home and a bellyrub monster at the park.

No objections to the front pagers talking about their pets from time to time, but whatever happened to the pet rescue threads from commenters and other hangers-on?

Great looking girl! Hope she has many years left of belly rubs & happy times.

OMG, what a face! Adorable!
Oh, and I miss the pet rescue stories, too. Maybe Anne Laurie ran out of stories. We need to get her some more.
Tim F.
@Loneoak: Cora is not mine. I assume that Anne Laurie posts ’em as she gets them. In the between times I might as well post about rescues in my area as well.
Dan
That is some freaking camera. What are you using?
bkny
a smiling poochie — what an excellent way to begin the morning… she looks incredibly happy.
Loneoak
@Tim F.:
Good to know.

@Dan: Thanks. The camera is an Olympus E-P1 with an old OM 50mm f/1.8 lens on it. The pic was taken at ~f/2.0, 1/640 sec, ISO 250.

@geg6: Guilty! My only defense is lack of time and lack of decent pics. I’ve got 3 posts in me, too.
Hopefully it’ll rain enough this weekend to give me some time to get my act together.

Pitties are wonderful dogs. Too bad about their rep.
wonkie
Pits are wonderful dogs. I wanted a pit for my next pooch but fate gave me a Maltese instead. Well maybe later. Meawhile thanks for postig a pit–everything that counters the prejudice helps all of the pits.
ChrisS
Pretty girl … most pits I know are lovebugs … higher energy dogs, but lovebugs.
My buddy rescued a black lab/pit who has some very seldom rage issues with other animals, but her favorite spot when company is over is on someone’s lap.

I was thinking….yea, danger alert there… but I was wondering with all the crap and hell Breitbart has caused people over the last many years with his obvious video forgeries, why hasn’t the progressive community on the web done the same back to him? I mean, there are lot’s of interviews with him all over the place so getting audio of his voice and making a word salad to piece back together in a humorous, depraved and twisted way would be such positive karma. And it isn’t like everyone wouldn’t know they were doctored interviews, but in the ways of the wise Karl Rove, repeating bullshit 1000 times makes it true (in all too many peoples minds).
So…Let me suggest a contest. Who can produce the most debauched interview with Breitbart? And let’s go for the low blow there, please include lots of taboo things.
In the words of Mao, ‘Let 1000 interviews bloom’.

Gorgeous dog.
A good start to a left coast morning.

Today is Daniels-mania! day at the Washington Post AND the NYT:

The Post article also includes the obligatory Fiscal Seriousness!! Mention
Intellectual heft!!
Intellectual heft apparently being really awesome for a fiscally serious mid-western republican from the heartland, but decidedly too “cool”, too distant, too uppity, for the WH’s current occupant
At least the Post put this mush in the Style section.

I loffs her. She is wonderful. I’m glad she has a good life.
And let’s all remember to help Stamp out Hunger Saturday. Put a bag out for your letter carrier or go to the web site of the same name. kthnxbai

Obligatory PUPPEH!!
@Bulworth: Have they fix the Daniels-Obama height ratio issue yet? Or is it too uncouth to call him an elf as Kucinich was so routinely mocked with?
JCT
@Bulworth: Fiscal fucking seriousness? What the hell?
Hey, Mitch? Where did that SURPLUS that Clinton left you go — hey, maybe it’s under the cushions with Saddam’s WMDs?
I’m sorry — I just don’t understand these benchmarks. If I killed all my patients would I get to be Surgeon General in a Republican administration?
Oh and I’m a big fan of using the oldie-but-goodie OM lenses on a MFT system — in my case a GFI.

You people are nuts.
Pit bulls creep me out, for good reason.
Look at that face. Behind the smile there is death in those eyes.
kindness
@Tim, Interrupted: Depends how they’re raised. While they are rambunctious and like to wrestle when playing they can be very well behaved with other critters if you teach them to be. Not too much different from a lot of dogs. I’m partial to Shepard mutts and they have similar issues.

I came across this review for one of Kevin Smith’s comic book projects and I have to wonder if Smith has always been this big of a tosser?

@kindness:
So I’m always just curious as to what draws you and others to breeds that are dangerous and unpredictable. Why not have dogs without “issues?”
Is there something about the danger that pleases you?
I’m really just asking.
I mean look at the jaws on the dog in this post: They are made to grip and kill.
asiangrrlMN
Aw. She’s a beauty and looks to be a real sweetheart. So glad that Cora is able to have a wonderful, belly-rub-filled life.
kindness
TI, And you think a small dog has any less inclinations? They have the same instincts they just have smaller jaws and you fear them less. The dog itself isn’t much different. They’re like people, how they turn out is a mixture of their environment and the disposition of their family and social history.
I’ve always socialized my dogs to like other dogs, people and cats as usually I have them too. I have to do this because I prefer to be able to have my kids off leash, even in public settings. I’m responsible enough to know that a dog that isn’t in control of itself can not be let to make it’s own decisions. It’s work getting a dog to that point but that is what parents do, they shape their kids. And in the end it really is a joy.
Would they fight? They have. But it’s always been after another dog got ugly first. Would they bite you? No, but if you were to go after them physically, I’d let them defending themselves. None of my dogs has ever bitten anyone btw.
What is your trip on implying dogs are such vicious beasts anyhow? Where does this come from with you?
Tim, Interrupted
@kindness:
ah jeez, here we go with the bullshit. As you know, I’m talking about PBs and closely related breeds, not all “dogs.”
I have two rescues of my own and know whereof I speak.
Newsflash: dogs aren’t “kids.” And now I know you are one of those assholes who insist on having their dogs off leash in public, even in the face of their breed of which you know many people are wary. I submit that you do this as a power trip of not so subtle intimidation. You get off on the fear you’re provoking. Douche.
kindness
@Tim, Interrupted: Go fuck yourself asshole.
Dog is My Copilot
What a cute face. Great story. Shoots the hell out of the stereotypes about pit bull-type dogs, doesn’t it?
Dog is My Copilot
My niece and her husband have a pit bull and she is one of the friendliest dogs I’ve ever met. The only thing about her that would hurt someone is her whip of a tail. The breed has been ruined by people who use these types of stronger dogs as fighting dogs. It’s because of stupid people, not the dogs, that the breed has suffered. Pit bull-type dogs are one of the most euthanized breeds in shelters. Some of the most vicious dogs I’ve ever met are little dogs. They just can’t do as much damage because they’re small.
Tim, Interrupted
@kindness:
hahaha…just what I’d expect in the way of a rational response from someone who lets their fucking Pit Bulls off leash in public spaces. Here’s hoping you’re arrested for the privilege soon.
Tim, Interrupted
@Dog is My Copilot:
Pardon me, but the breed is “stronger” because they were BRED to FIGHT. Hello?
Well..duh. Which is exactly part of what makes them FAR less dangerous than a PB. ANY vicious dog should be put down, but at least the chances of someone being killed by a vicious Chihuahua are a teensy bit smaller than by a PB or something larger.
kindness
Dear Tim, You have issues. I never said I had a pit. Learn to read. I notice everyone else thinks you’re a major dick also. I had felt a little rude cursing you, but in retrospect, it was the right thing to do. You are a major asshole. I will avoid interaction with you from now on.
Peace dude. Seek help.
