Speaking of Republican shenanigans, this week’s NIXONLAND discussion will take place Sunday evening at 7pm EDT, so people have a chance to take advantage of the later sunsets.* Chapters under discussion will be “Trust”, “If Gold Rust”, and “The Presidential Offensive” — closing with the unmasking of a murderous sociopath who ensnared wide-eyed Midwestern innocents into a web of deceit and terror. Also, Charles Manson.

*Stock phrase would be ‘nice Spring weather’ but we’re not seeing much of that here in New England. What’s the weather like in your neighborhood tonight?

Here in NJ, it’s raining and expected to mix later with snow. Could be accumulation. The winds tomorrow will be at around 40 mph. Supposed to get to 40 tomorrow so it will melt.

Still at the office. 94 degrees and bright blue skies.
Looking forward to fresh swordfish in tomato, saffron, and white wine sauce and some good bread for dinner on the patio at home, where it’s a much nicer 78 degrees.

Weather in South PA is cold and wet, with a forecast of @#$% SNOW!!! It snowed last night, too.
I lit a fire, since we’ve got the triple threat of cold, wet, and dark. I thought we were done with this stuff.

We’re supposed to get a foot of wet snow tomorrow because we don’t already have enough snow on the ground. My vegetable starts are looking very nice this year but at this rate nothing’s going in the ground before Memorial Day.

The news here is showing that Carnation is underwater and avalanches (snow type) and mudslides have closed Stevens pass. The rivers aren’t supposed to crest until tomorrow night. Glad I don’t live right nest to any of those rivers.

Second night of making TaMara’s excellent enchilada pie. Yum, yum. It’s hard to be irate at the continued cold when your belly is so happy.

In the Central Valley of Calif. and I do mean the center. It was 78 here today after weeks of rain this week has been great. The garden got started today with 3 types of bell peppers and 2 different tomatoes. Tomorrow is melons, and run drip lines. The fava beans are start to bean but will need to run water to them also. Plant food if you can this yr like your life depends on it;)

@beltane:
Holy crap. And here I was bitching about a few inches yesterday. I’ve had ENOUGH of this crap. Republicans, also, too.

63 and cloudy here in southwest WA. OMG, it’s spring! I’ve been home this afternoon and all my neighbors are mowing their lawns. All. Of. Them.
This is really the first day it finally stopped feeling like winter. It’s weird, but good, ya know?

Hope you guys are archiving the NIXONLAND threads. I have the audiobook but won’t be able to get to it for quite some time.
Sure would like to re-read the threads when I do.

I mowed today for the first time this year, but I was wearing a coat and gloves. It’s been cold for a week. Two weeks ago I got a sunburn while wearing shorts. Garden is tilled but too wet right now to sow seeds. Really too early for veggie sets.

Mike Huckabee: Americans should be forced at gunpoint to listen to David Barton
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N1O1dvN8lag#=0m33s
In a sane world, this would be the end of Huckabee’s candidacy. Unfortunately the Republicans cut the sanity budget, too.
Gin & Tonic
Having just had 231 gallons of fuel oil delivered today at a cost of $3.65/gal, I’m hoping it starts to get warm and I don’t need another fill for a while.

@Hobelhouse: In a sane world, Mike Huckabee would be forced to attend a Burning Man festival at gunpoint.

It is 47 and cloudy in Charlotte. Watching the Tide play Wichita State in the NIT. Noticed that Can’tor recovered from his Judge Dredd moment yesterday and is now back on board the “it’s Obama’s fault ’cause he won’t bring us our mint julep” fail train. The stupid, it is breathtaking.

@Emerald:
They’re all tagged, as ‘Nixonland’, so even FYWP’s quirky search function will call them up when you go looking. Some pretty amazing discussions there, if you’ll forgive an interested party’s bragging…

@beltane:
What have the Burning Man participants done, that you would do such a cruel thing to them?
Martin
86 here in SoCal. Would have preferred 70 as I’m building a new fence and today was post hole digging day. I’m hoping my back starts talking to me again soon.
Martin
@Anne Laurie: Yes, I’m very envious of the book conversations, but alas I had no more hours left to read a book and participate. But if you get K-Thug to join us for an Atlas Shrugged reading, I’m soooo there.
WereBear
@Anne Laurie: I can think of a candidate… oh wait, the Festival. Uh huh.
We’re supposed to get two feet of snow, but only a few flakes as yet. You mean I bought all that toilet paper for nothing?
And for the Tristan fans, just took this one tonight.
At seven months, Tristan is approaching handsome.
He’s a happy boy, giving me a cat kiss! Yes he is!

@WereBear: soooooo cute. Thank you! That (and the 60-ish and partly cloudy weather in Portland) made my early springish evening!

Crossed LA diagonally todayk, cool until I got to Baton Rouge but much better than the 44F highs across TX that made me miserable on the bike. From Baton Rouge to just west of Mobile it was nice and then the sun went down. A bit more of dark wore on me quickly. I did escape the snow in NE OR but it sure has taken a few days to quit freezing my ass off.
I did get down and cruise the French Quarter in NO, my impression was lots of old buildings with lots of tourists and bad streets – Disney Land With Bricks. I am now stuck with freeway riding which I don’t care for- well Tampa in two days.

Typical Seattle at this time of year: low to mid 50s, gray, chance of rain.
PanurgeATL
Atlanta: 45 degrees, feels a bit colder. Overcast all week, saw a little bit of sky today. Guess we’re making up for all that unseasonably warm weather last month–this has been an odd winter, ‘cuz it doesn’t feel like spring just yet.

“Friday” Update:
Last week it debuted at Number 72. (“By the time the record company had figured out that the record wasn’t being played, and hurriedly changed the lyric to “There ain’t nobody sweeter”, everybody had forgotten about the record anyway, and it died at Number Seventy-One.”) Alas, it did not die there. The latest has it at Number 58.

@Chuck Butcher: make sure you go across the Sunshine Skyway when you get to Tampa. Really cool bridge, you’ll be impressed.

PanurgeATL – Hi. Atlanta too.
