Well, we lost to West Ham, and pretty badly.
That was hard to watch.

chin up randy. only the carling cup. they’ll blow much bigger games this year. ‘course i support the yids.

The problem with Arsenal is they always try and walk it in.

And in Elections-Have-Consequences news, TPM reports that His Gubernorship Scott Walker would lose to his former Dem rival if the election were re-held today.

Wisconsin voters: Fool ’em — they can’t get fooled again!

@BGinCHI: Yeah, I was going to say, “Try being a Liverpool supporter.”
That display was a return to Hodgson and I thought that either Kenny doesn’t understand what he adopted or he’s not the man for the job. Woeful is the best I can come up with for that game. They lacked any drive, any ambition, any hunger, and any innovation. Depressing as hell even though it was a rather exciting game – the fact that they could offer such a lackluster performance and still keep it exciting kept me returning to the notion that the players aren’t that bad.
West Ham put in a very good game, to be sure, but Liverpool still managed to keep it exciting even if they appeared to be running on empty. At least Maxi didn’t make an appearance, the one player I have consistently slagged this season – then again, perhaps they needed his energy there (as long as they keep him away from attempting to strike). Something was dreadfully wrong and they looked very much like mid-table regulars, i.e., like they have looked for most of the past 15 years.
Of course, the game on Sunday should be a hoot since they do manage to turn it up when playing the big boys, a collection no longer including Liverpool.

Kinda like Mets fans. (Only known by reputation, I’m not a sports fan.)

Headline at the link: Wenger failed to fill Arsenal’s holes
I’m not sure what that means, but I’m pretty certain it’s not appropriate for a family blog.
Pooh
LOL ARSENAL.

@PurpleGirl:
The Mets fans aren’t even close. It’s the Indians and (especially) Cubs fans who really deserve the sympathy.

@LGRooney: The Hammers discovered that playing rough breaks L’pool’s spirit.
Kenny needs to chew some asses and get some hard-man attitude going. I hate to say it but we played like Arsenal: lots of passing but no guts.

The Arse will always find a way to disappoint you, and I speak as a fan.
BGinCHI
@Roger Moore: Hey!
Oh, yeah, true.

This Minnesota Vikings fan feels your pain.

Ahh well, It sure is sweet for Birmingham City fans, and it means a great deal to the club. It may only be the Carling Cup but it is a shiny silver ticket to European play! It was a shame for the game to be decided by an error the way it was, but hey you cannot make a mistake like that with the cup on the line. Keep Right On!!!!!!

I am happy to see so many L’pool supporters here. Hopefully they can get it together after the steaming “Rove” they dropped last week
Grand Wazoo
That second goal scored by Birmingham was very painful to watch, just pathetic on Arsenal’s part.
BGinCHI
@Aaron: I miss Ben Ayoun most of all.
And Joe Cole, so far? Thoughts?

As someone born in Manchester, the lulz were quite delightful ;)

As I’ve said before, I’m a Melchester Rovers fan for the rest of the season.

Randinho, there’s so much to look forward to. For example, the shelling they will experience in Barca next week.

disappointment from my boys at leeds too..
Fax Paladin
What’s that, foregone conclusion, then, you reckon? Arsenal without a chance?
Aaron
@BGinCHI:
I was just disappointed about the 5-3-2 formation. I prefer when they play a more aggressive formation. As far as Joe Cole, I haven’t gotten to watch enough live games to really get a feel for how he fits in
BGinCHI
@Aaron: Agree. Mireilles was lost, which is a bad sign these days, and Gerrard couldn’t get forward of midfield.
When they are tentative they play like shit. Full stop.
Kelley was a bright spot.

Well, as a former hockey goalie, and father of a soccer goalie, I would just like to say that the second Birmingham goal is exactly the kind of thing that is going to happen when you act, as Wenger does, as if you just need to be sure you have 10 good passers on the field and the goalkeeping will take care of itself.

@MAJeff:
As a fellow Vikings fan I would love LOVE LOVE to go through the misery that an Arsenal fan supposedly has to go through. Misery such as going undefeated in their league a mere seven years ago and winning the FA Cup six years ago.

Hmmm … I like underdogs, so it’s always cool when a team with money gets thrashed by a team that has less of it — and the Hammers definitely thrashed Liverpool around this weekend. I think the officiating helped West Ham, if it’ll make you Reds supporters feel better. Also, you have another match to make it up, right?
TIM HOWARD FOR ARSENAL. J/K.
Seriously, though, my jokey-fangirl crush on Cesc Fabregas has turned into something rather serious as I’m wondering … what’s up with these injuries?
Ronnie Pudding
I had no rooting interest, but that was a great match. It had everything: a blown call, a great goal, a cheap goal, shots hitting the goal frame and great saves, momentum swings, tempers on the pitch.
flyerhawk
Can’t worked up over a Carling Cup lost. It’s forgotten in a week.
Disappointing that the team played poorly but what can you do?
We win the next 3 matches and Sunday is a distant memory.

Where are the great Lansbury, Frimpong, Vela, Gibbs squads of Carling Cups just past? Those guys woulda killed the Brummies!
DPirate
You got that right!

One question:
How hard it it to buy a goalkeeper and a central defender?
Answer: Not hard. Good Keeper ~ £8 million, Defender ~ £15 million.
Wenger on won things on his inherited defense and goal tender.
