Packing. Presents are wrapped and organized. but clothing will be required in central Wisconsin so it must be packed. Leaving for my parents’ place tomorrow morning. We will spend X-mas Eve at my Grandmother’s house with my dad’s side of the family and then drive 45 minute north to stay at my parents’. X-mas Day is my mom’s family and is hosted by Mom and Dad. Then a few days of skiing and relaxing.

It’s 10:00 and I’ve just finished working. Planning to do this nonsense (with 35 lbs) followed by a bath and some gift-wrapping.

A glass of wine with a friend and then an old “Poirot” on public TV. I agree with Schrodinger’s Cat that there isn’t enough Tunch lately. There’s never enough Tunch.

Either pizza or chinese for supper, depending on what the SO wants. There’s a Pinot Noir in the fridge and ‘The Apartment’ waiting to be cued up on the DVD player.
Btw, a bottle of Johnny Walker Red? Not so easy to wrap, turns out. Shoulda got a box.
Headed to Savannah tomorrow for Christmas. Reservations at The Pirate’s House. Nommmm.

Already in sweats with dinner in the oven. I was going to spring for a Honey Baked Ham this Xmas, but the mule colicked on Tuesday and the vet bill ate all my remaining cash for the month. So it’s free TV and wine for the weekend.

We are in a really cool hotel in Lynchburg, VA The Craddock.. It’s in a old shoe factory downtown and even has it’s own dog you can check out for a walk! They let us have both pups for a mere $50 per night so we’s happy and cold here in ol’vigginy.

What’s the vacation you speak of? Bah. At this rate I’ll be working Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and Boxing Day, which happens to be my birthday. The joys of being self-employed and having a disorganized boss.
The rest of you? Happy, happy whatever you celebrate or do not celebrate. May you have a lovely (fill in the blank) filled with satisfaction, good food, and scintillating companionship! (or for the hermits among us, the lack of scintillating companionship). Did I cover everyone?

We’ve really gotta find G a new job where he doesn’t have to work every goddamned day between Christmas and New Year’s. Right now, he’s getting worried that they’re going to make him work tomorrow after all, which would pretty much blow the entire plan to smithereens and mean we would be spending Christmas at home with the cats.

I still have to decide how to handle my Christmas. My parents are divorcing, I’m tired of being the adult in my relationship with both of them, don’t want to have them drain every bit they can out of me, and don’t wish to make small talk with my homophobic teabagging Catholic relations. All over the course of 3 different Christmases instead of the customary single Christmas gathering.

Since it’s an open thread and all, I will share with you the epiphany I had earlier today.
Have you ever seen the Godfather? You know how as the movie goes on, Michael Corleone gets bogged down in a war with the other families, and it looks like they’re going to slowly wear him down to nothing, whittling away at his power bit by bit? And then Michael goes to his niece’s christening and there’s this great montage that cuts between the christening and all of Michael’s enemies getting killed? And by the time his niece has been baptized, Michael has wiped all his enemies off the board and gotten everything he wanted?
That montage is President Obama’s last few weeks.

Having Burritos (per my Mum “poor peoples food”) for dinner tonight. Went to my bosses breakfast brunch for his family this morning which was great fun (and the food was good too) then went and did the final shopping for DH. The last present I got him was a tree pruner that allows you to prune up to a 20′ height. There was no way on earth that I was going to wrap that bad boy so he got it today. While I was showing DH the pruner Cueball managed to steal all of the dollar store dog toys out of the bag in the living room so I guess there is no point in wrapping them for him, even the squeaky hot dog and cheeseburger! We are having Prime Rib for Christmas Dinner (DHs favorite), other than that I am done with stuff until Monday. I am so looking forward to the break. Tomorrow I plan on spending most of the day in my jammies, DH is going out Christmas Shopping for me (he always does it on Christmas Eve) and all I have to do is feed the wild birdies, my goldfinches have come home for Christmas so I need to get their food out there. I got Mass Effect a couple weeks ago and really liked it. I got Mass Effect 2 a couple days ago and, geez, it’s like they stripped out everything I liked and made Gears of War In Space. There’s little exploring or interesting diversions. It’s just mission after mission of hiding behind a wall while nine hundred waves of enemies attack. It is a compliment. I have a lot of friends that do crossfit and I think it is amazing (if somewhat cult like). I’ve done it at intervals to get off routine or when my instructor has gone back home.
And if you are doing it and you are older than me (36, match) that’s a point of pride.
I think that if you can stick to it a really mundane lifting and cardio plan is probably better than cross fit. But few people can. So the unexpected off days and the variety I think are wonderful. And the results are amazing. Just stay away from that paleo-dieting nonsense.

@Bnut: In Week 4 of P90X here — started with my teenaged son to get him ready for baseball season. Predictably as I am far more Type-A than he is, he has fallen behind while I am on-target. I actually like it and you can really pace yourself, the diverse workouts really cut down on the boredom. The guy running it is pretty annoying, but I’ve seen worse. I can add from a physician’s standpoint that it is pretty nicely balanced. Watch the nutritional plan — the calories are bonkers for women, prob OK for guys.
I am sort of crashed on the couch after consuming 2 pints of Guinness with my (possibly) future chairwoman over an extended lunch. Little beagle is snoring next to me. Did the takeout Chinese already tonight. Planning on hiding out in my darkroom for the holidays – a real treat.

P90X is very , very good. By no means perfect but excellent nonetheless. Now if you ask me if it is better than Body-for-life I can’t say authoritatively. But if that kind of structure helps you workout 72 of 84 days ish and eat right as many days ish you will not be upset with the results.
I don’t sell anything fitness wise but I am a big believer in slow carb dieting combined with an ABXCAXBCX pattern with X being a HIIT cardio day. But it is monotonous for most folks.

@Ailuridae: The variety is terrific. I can do pull-ups again for the first time since I was sixteen (I’m 31) and following Crossfit Endurance has helped me run faster on lower mileage. Interesting. I obviously abhor the broader politics of the crossfit community as well. Given the socioeconomic reality of crossfit it is pretty libertarian/paulian.
And I also do a monthly 3 hour run as well – usually during a sporting event on a treadmill though. There is no scenery in Chicago.
I’ve lost a ton of weight doing protein + vegetables but I never thought well when I was doing so. But baked tilapia and two packages of santa fe vegetables a day will make you disappear. But the not thinking clearly is why I recommend the slow carb thing. 6 days out of seven my diet is basically the following
1g protein per lb of lean body mass – basically 1.5 ish pounds of fish or shell fish (I am a pescetarian)
I 28 oz can of black bean (Goya on sale now at .99$!)
1 28 ox can of tomatoes made into some salsa ish or as part of a chili
1 .5 lbs of separate frozen vegetables.
