I haven’t been following this, but in Colorado…holy shit, Tancredo has a chance to be governor. Not a good chance mind you, but wow. And this is on some whacky third-party line.
I know there’s a lot of talk about O’Donnell and Angle, but for my money, Tancredo and Miller are the two craziest candidates with a chance to win statewide office this fall. FiveThirtyEight.com has has Miller as a slight favorite in Alaska.

I can’t wait for Sister Sarah to help delist the Republican party in Colorado as a major party. You can do it Sarah!
chopper
unlike some other, more optimistic people, i’m not expecting a dem win in AK. i am expecting a complete clusterfuck, which considering how red AK is, is just as good.
ha ha!
Sue
@chopper: Better, actually. No dem win means the repubs’ heads explode trying to figure out who gets the blame.
Comrade Dread
That would be awesome. Unless you live in Colorado.
If you do, I’m very sorry. We have some lovely housing developments in California available at low prices.

@chopper:A clusterfuck that will be tied up in the courts for months and which, I think, will push Granny Wingnut over the edge.
EvolutionaryDesign
Everyone was a little shocked at Maes drop and Tanc’s rise. Tancredo is really hammering the racism this cycle, too. He has an ad up where a father talks about his (apprently) mudered child (which I admit, is horrible), but the entire time, the screen is flashing “SON KILLED BY ILLEAGAL IMMIGRANT”. Tancredo is riding racism to victory. Thankfully nobody hates Hick all that much
FlipYrWhig
I’m pretty confident that Miller is the worst of the crop. He’s malevolent and sneaky, has a paramilitary streak, and also his beard is ridiculous. I think he wants to be emperor of the breakaway republic of Alaskastan.
Paul is also malevolent, but he has enough heterodoxy that he slots in behind Miller on the scale. Rubio and Toomey at least have enough experience in actual politics to be somewhat restrained in their ambition. All three of them are ideologues, but at least there’s some thought there. As the expression goes, “at least it’s an ethos.” Paul is a libertarian douche, Toomey is an anti-tax douche, and Rubio is an all-encompassing right-wing douche.
Angle, Buck, Johnson, and Raese are idiots.
O’Donnell is far beyond idiocy and has absurd views on every issue possible, but she’s still kind of sunny. Miller has a heart as hard and black as coal.
Miller is the champion.
FlipYrWhig
Also, I stand by my prediction that Rubio is headed for a spot on the next Republican ticket.

@chopper:
Best case scenario would be McAdams wins outright. That would be cause for massive celebration.
Next best would be if it were a complete clusterfuck and all sorts of recounts and trips through the courts were in order. In that case I wouldn’t expect any kind of resolution until at least April.
@FlipYrWhig:
Agreed. Good looking, young Latino Republican? What is not for them to love, love, love.

@FlipYrWhig:
How about a Rubio/Tancredo “we end in O and we’re ending O” ticket? Presumably when immigrant vote meets anti immigrant vote the world will explode. At least that’s how it works on Star Trek.

Tancredo wins and I’m moving in with you. How do you feel about cats? Great Danes? Oh, and rumor has it I can cook.

I may take you up on it. Or move to Australia.

Tonight’s menu: Panko fried chicken, cheddar cheese mashed potatoes and vegetable TBA. I’m just saying, Doug, it could be worse.

@aimai:
Well played!

@FlipYrWhig:
To be fair, McAdams’ beard is also kind of funny looking. I wonder when the last time 2 men with beards were fighting for a senate seat? 1908?
Pangloss
My craazzeee scale starts with Angle, followed by Miller, Rand Paul, Raese, Johnson, Buck, Rossi, and Rubio. Don’t know enough about the others to comment.
However, when you get into state contests, Paladino, Tancredo, and Brady are up there with the craaaazzzziest.

Just back from making GOTV calls in Chicago. Everyone either not at home or has already voted. Cook County on track for 50% turnout today, says the county clerk. This is good news. Mark Kirk may not be crazy (about anything other than money in his pockets, that is) but we don’t need him in the senate.
fasteddie9318
And, of course, psycho-crazy Joe Miller’s voting record will look 98.5% identical to Lisa Murkowski’s, but she’s a moderate centrist who just wants to privatize Social Security and turn Medicare over to private insurance companies.
Basically, we’re fucked no matter what happens.

@Princess:
He’s not crazy, he’s just a pathological liar.

The ONLY upside to the tandredo campaign here in Colorado is the fast that the GOP will be relegated to “minor Party” status (unless the Legislature does something about it). This change in status is a BFD as it means that GOP candidates will only be able to raise money once during each election cycle instead of being able to raise money for both a primary and a general election.
Its a small consilation, but I’ll take what I can.
that and Hickenlooper is going to be the first Brewer (he owns and operates a great brew pub, the Wyncoop Brewery) to be elected to statewide office in a VERY long time, if ever.
Hich should start selling hats with his picture on them declaring “Brewer/Patriot.”
Oh wait, that’s already been done.
Boots Day
Tancredo’s not stupid, and he’s not much out of the mainstream of Republicanism. But he’s really, really racist, and he doesn’t care who knows it. Race is the only issue on his plate, pretty much the only thing he ever talks about.
I’m pretty sure he’s going to lose, though.
Katie
I think Miller beats Angle in the creepy people contest. The more I hear about him the less I like him, and I didn’t like him to start with. He’s evil, sneaky, and it’s all about him. Oh wait he’s a tea partier, I forgot.
RoonieRoo
@EvolutionaryDesign: Perry has almost the exact same ad! Except it is a wife talking about her cop husband that was killed by an illegal immigrant.
Kmeyer the lurker
As a Coloradan, I was very wary of those dems who were psyched about Tancredo’s entry into the race. We may go purple from time to time, but the force of the wingnut is very very strong here. Hickenlooper has waged a ghost’s campaign, and it was his race to lose. I frankly don’t think Hick’s heart was in it, as he’s been a Denverite through and through ever since he got here (Denver/Boulder is about it for Dems here, everywhere else it’s politically like Wyoming), and I think he’d almost rather continue being mayor. Tancredo plays very well to the whites who are freaked about a state with a Spanish name having a large hispanic minority. Wouldn’t be at all surprised (though quite sad) if he pulled it off.
Wag
I have to disagree. There are large stretches across the Western Slope that are bluish purple, and you don’t know Colorado if you ignore Pueblo, a Dem stronghold dating back to the Depression, when the rest of the state was run by the Klan.
bystander
@Comrade Dread: Thanks for the offer. It’s tempting, but I prefer to stay and fight.
I’m in C0 – 4. Typically, a Republican stronghold. It’s going to be a very tight race for Betsy Markey. In CO – 3 earliest results are favoring Tipton (R) over Salazar (D).
Gonna be a long night.
Wag
And Fox calls it for Hickenlooper.
Vaya con Dios, Tancredo!
