From commentor Barney S:
This is Sinead (ask my wife why a German Shorthair Pointer has an Irish name ‘cuz I sure don’t know and neither of us is Irish). We think she is about 9 years old. About 5 years ago she was abandoned/ lost in the backcountry in nearby Glacier Natl. Park, we think for about 2 months, luckily in the summer. When she was found she had to be carried out and was found to have been pregnant, the pups dead inside her.
__
We had just had to put down our previous Shorthair due to cancer and I saw an ad on Petfinder listed as being in Cutbank MT but with a local Whitefish phone number. We went to see her and it was love at first sight. She had been to the vets for removal of the dead pups but was still emaciated and so weak she was unable to walk more than about 50 feet. I had to lift her into and out of the car.
__
She had apparently been beaten as she was skittish about having her head scratched and is still very frightened by thunder but is an absolute delight to be around. Unlike most Shorthairs she is very mellow in the house though outside she does not walk rather runs everywhere.
__
Despite 2 surgeries to remove cancerous lumps she is doing very well and brings us much pleasure every day. John posted the “Rare Montana Spotted Reindeer” picture a couple of years ago.

what a lucky pooch; hope her health woes are over. is that typical coloring on her? her head totally brown and body all spots? looks like she has a brown streak running down her back. how cool.

What a beauty, Barney. Here’s what you need for her thunder nerves.

I saw through David Brin’s blog that satellite rallies are being organized all over the country for the Stewart/Colbert Million Moderate March Oct 30; if there is one being planned in your ara it may need volunteers or donations to make it happen. The main website seems to be http://www.rallymao.com.

Oh, and there’s a truly disgusting OpEd in today’s Times by Jack Goldsmith, arguing that we’ve got no just way to deal with the Guantanamo detainees, so we’d better deal with them unjustly. Somehow Goldsmith elides the role he played as Bush’s assistant attorney general to assemble this sh*t sandwich he is oh so solemnly advising Obama and the country to swallow.

Sinead has a camo cushion. What a lovely pooch.

@Maude: i’m thinking that look on her face is — ‘if i don’t move, they won’t see me’

Our neighbor has one of those dogs and he has become best friends with our Lab. The pointer is very lively and wants to keep on playing long after our dog is ready to call it quits and go inside for a nap.

Sinead is a pretty girl!
Sometimes animals choose their own names, you just have to be sensitive to what they say.
Our Mojii told my daughter that was his name. Sadie was very pleased when I thought of that name and so that’s the name we settled on. Tulip, the dog, wanted to be named after a flower.
Sally and Timmy didn’t offer any suggestions so they are stuck with the names we gave them.
How long do doggies like Sinead live?
Annie
She is beautiful and well-accessorized.

What a beauty! I love her expression in the first picture.

Lovely girl! Wasn’t it a gorgeous GSHP who won Westminster a few years ago?
I hear they are very smart, too.

@Linda Featheringill:
The second picture, Sinead’s saying take these darn reindeer ears off..
What a great dog.

Obama has been saying for some time that they were investing in “green jobs” but I hadn’t seen any evidence of that. I was becoming a wee bit skeptical.
During my morning perusal of the world today, i found these two items. They seem like serious projects.
Good for us!

@Warren Terra #4: More joy-reading in today’s NYT: two long feature articles, one on Pamela Geller (in the NY/Region section), and one on Ann Coulter (in the, for the love of FSM, Style section).
I can haz brain bleach plz?

Lovely Sinead! I hope her surgery days are over and she’s around for many years to come.

I have a question that you have probably gotten before, if I read BJ on my Kindle do you all get a cut of that sweet 99 cents that Amazon wants to charge me per month?
The convenience of it is worth a dollar but if you don’t get anything from it I will cancel. Out of protest. Also I will definitely blame Rahm.

About to head out on a long walk, its another perfect fall day for the leaf peepers as we rapidly approach peak color.

You know she loves you if she will wear those antlers long enough to have her picture made! What a beautiful, lucky dog.

Thanks all, Sinead is indeed a wonderful doggie. Responding to some of your questions in no particular order:
She will actually let you put hats etc on her and doesn’t seem to mind. She was a lobster last Halloween.
GSPs range in color from almost pure white with very little ticking to solid brown with maybe a white spot or two.
Dog life expectancy is somewhat related to size, smaller = longer lived. She’s on the small side for GSPs, about 40# so if she avoids any more cancers likely 12-13 yrs.
Most GSPs are high energy though they are great pets and very athletic and graceful. I have 5 acres about 3/4 mi up a private road and she gets to run and sniff all she wants. If you are interested in this breed there are many GSP rescue organizations where you can find a dog that will fit your tolerance for their energy requirements.
GSPs are closely related to the wirehair Griffon John’s brother recently acquired. Barney

@realbtl:
It’s so nice that you’ve adopted her after all she went through. Two months wandering around a national park? Abused as well? Assholes. Hell is too good a place for whoever abandoned them.

@realbtl: Sinead is gorgeous. And, yes, I did wonder if she was a related breed to Cole’s brother’s new puppy.
Bless you for taking her in and giving her the sweet life.
@Cain: Agreed. Stories like this make me livid, though the happy ending does help ameliorate the rage.

@bkny: Here’s our late much-loved Tigger, also a German short-haired Pointer, clearly showing similar coloring. Her spots were more subtle than Sinead’s.
She was on her way to the vet for a festering sore on her elbow/knee.
Linkmeister
@realbtl: Tigger lived from 1993 to 2008.
