From Tom Scocca at Slate: “Larry Summers Is Resigning to Spend More Time With His Money“.
Damn fine post, as well. If Summers were being judged by his actual “financial acumen” (which seems to consist of an imperious willingness to lose other peoples’ money) as opposed to his monumental talent for giving rich powerful people new & creative excuses to screw up other peoples’ lives…

I misread that as “Mommy” the first time and it was even funnier.

hey, an open thread…perfect for me to mention the damn talking ads are back! Hate those things.

What will Massachusetts have to give Larry Summers to go elsewhere? I’ll throw in a quarter.

I’m sorry, but what’s with all of the gloom I’m seeing about this news? Shouldn’t progressives be dancing around singing “Ding Dong The Witch Is Dead” right about now? Or are we supposed to wait until Geithner quits, too?

Oh, goody, we have a name!
House Republicans Set To Unveil ‘The Pledge To America’
Per the article, the key promises in the “Pledge” include cutting taxes, repealing health care reform, ending the stimulus, cutting some more taxes, cutting all federal spending, and keeping Gitmo open, no surprises there, and of course, not a peep about job creation or education. But the proposal that had me rubbing my eyes to make sure I wasn’t reading it incorrectly?
Huh whuuuh? I gotta hear the details on this little nugget.

Congrats, JC — you get to partake of the Former Detroit Lions QB starting-for-your-team experience this weekend! That’ll brighten your foul mood from this week, I’m sure.

@JenJen: This is one I could actually get behind, except for the fact that it’s not actually legal. The Supremes can’t hear a case unless there is an actual controversy, ie, a real live case for them to hear. They don’t give advisory opinions, and they’re the only ones who could, since they’re the only ones that matter.

Larry Summers used his “his monumental talent for giving rich powerful people new & creative excuses to screw up other peoples’ lives.” Mitch McConnell and John Boehner are doing the same. One is getting ready to leave an “embattled” administration, the other two believe they will assume power because of the teabagger vilification of of the former’s actions. There truly is no justice in this world, only better and worse jobs of marketing.

It’s only a matter of time before Summers moves on to at least one more major institution whose endowment he will destroy. Success is just another word for failing on a larger stage.

If Summers were being judged by his actual “financial acumen” …
Doesn’t matter. The Best and The Brightest are entitled to screw up whatever field they decide to put their mind to work on. And they shall only be judged how bright they are.
