I’m sure they will be no more extreme than they were 150 years ago.
In the 1860 Election the Confederates were against:
And then as now the Confederate Party uses the memes, rhetoric, scare tactics, and talking points of white supremacy and fear of the ‘others’ to bring the low hanging rubes into their movement.
And then as now the only compromise the Confederate Party was/is willing to accept was/is complete and total capitulation to whatever crazy idea was/is freshest in their lizard brains.
The Republican Party is dead.
It is the Confederate Party now bitches. Get use to it.
Oh, and get ready to party like it’s 1860.
Cheers

You guys have GOT to slow down.
Or not.

New Republican party motto: All that’s missing are the hoods!
Dr. Psycho
I have no desire to “party” at the news that the oligarchic bastards are threatening to break up my country again.
And to think, they used to be the party of Lincoln.
It’s just sad, really.
Well, sad, and scary, and infuriating.
Little Boots
Dennis, you have a crazy, a real honest to god crazy, win in Delaware. What do you do?
Little Boots
Dr. Psycho, they’ve been trying for at least 30 years. The question is what do we do, right now, right here, with the crazies winning? What do we say about that, and how do we make it effective?
El Cid
YEEEEEEE HAWWWWW — SOUF’ GON’ RISE AGAIN!

Does this mean the’re gonna eat they’re own?

No.
It is up to us.
Seriously, could we stop dicking around as a party and make an issue of the habit Republicans have of throwing up the crazy constantly?

@Little Boots:
Defeat the Confederate wanker in November. Get out and help Chris Coons defeat her.
They same is true in many other States and many other races.
The stupid “I will sit on the sidelines because Obama has not yet fixed ___________ or done _____________ the way I thought it should be done” mindset needs to be tossed aside.
These Confederate fuckers have a very different idea about what to do with this Nation. We need to engage them now and defeat them. When they are gone, then I will be all ears about calls for Blue Dog hunting and recovered memories about Rahm stealing your cheese. But while these neo-Confederates are on the march, I do not have time for that.
As for now, these Confederates are a serious collection of crazy guys and gals and we need to stop them.
Helping the Democrats win and working to get out the vote seems like a good way to spend the next couple of months.
Cheers

According to a new poll on Kos Delaware’s Castle voters will support the Democrat in the general election by 44% to 28%.
O’Donnell will now have several Rand Paul moments before they shove her into a closet.
I also think that these wingnutty tea-party wins may be rallying the Democratic base.
Little Boots
Actually, I suspect the Chinese are thinking, “we invested in this horseshit?”
SteveinSC
See, I told you to hold on to those Confederate Bank Notes you dumbass Yankees.
Little Boots
@Dennis G.:
cosign that.
beltane
@lamh32: When they eat their own they get indigestion. Exit polling out of Delaware shows that a majority of Mike Castle’s supporters plan to vote for Coons. Also, Karl Rove was just on Fox yelling at Sean Hannity about teabaggers throwing seats away to the Democrats. This is a weird sort of horror movie we’re living through.
batgirl
@Little Boots: Yep, the rich used the crazy to get elected and now the crazy is taking over the party.
The question is do the rich really think they can still control the crazy?
Little Boots
but we better be prepared to play rough. Honestly, I think that would do it. What the fuck is wrong with us (other than Ben Nelson)?
Ahasuerus
@lamh32: DeMint is a sitting senator, right? And this quote is from a “Senior Republican leadership aide”? If they aren’t already eating their own, they at least have set the table. This is going to get ugly.
celticdragonchick
Because Antietam was so much fucking fun the first time around.
Dennis G.
@SteveinSC:
Only the ones with DeMint’s face on them are worth a dime now. Although there is a carny selling Confederate gold coins with Palin and Beck on ’em. I think you can see the ads over on Fox….
Little Boots
@batgirl:
No, I suspect they’re worried. Maybe not, but even Freedom Works pulled back from Christine O’Donnell. Palin doesn’t give a shit, but she ain’t rich yet, not Republican rich.
General Stuck
Wondered where you went Dennis. And yes, I am not sad at all that O’donnell won, though there is a twinge of bewilderment my country could spin down to such low denominators. But that is the way the murrican cookie crumbles some periods.

I say, double down. The Democrats need to run some candidates who believe the earth is hollow and full of grey reptoids who are actually demons in charge of satanic UFOs. Patrick Cooke for U.S. senator!

In her victory speech, O’Donnell spoke of “restoring” the America we’ve supposedly lost. I get the “lost” part – they lost to Obama and the socialist Dems.
What past version of America is it they want “restored?” They at least think they have an image of some lost ideal in their minds,…what is it?
celticdragonchick
@Little Boots:

I hope I am wrong, but I have a feeling that some/most of these crazy fuckers are going to be in the next Congress.
lamh32
anybody watching this O’donnell womans victory speech? She looks like she’s bout to cry. She doesn’t look serious at all.
Doesn’t she know there should be “no crying in baseball?”
Palin at least is a little “long in the tooth” (not really, but still), this woman looks like a child playing dress up.
Oh, BTW, as an African American, I REALLY hate the OBM/W (Obligatory Black Man or Woman) standing behind ya thing that pols, esp GOP pols do.

If your Dad says “she’s batshit crazy” a thousand quatloons to him!

Y’know sometimes I read things like this, and think of my Dad ranting about socialism because he listens to too much talk radio and then asking my sister and I things like “Are you a SOCIALIST? do you know what socialism IS?”
And I wonder, Are we doing the same thing to their talking points that they do to ours?
And then, I read the things they actually say, and I realize no, no we are not. They really suck this much.
Dan
I wonder if all these religious tea party nutbags are familiar with Luke 8:33: “Then went the devils out of the man, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the lake, and were choked.”
Good description of the republican party
Martin
@lamh32: Nope. GOP should be faulted for many things, but their ability to turn cognitive dissonance to the most politically advantageous outcome is exceptional. They’ll wander around here off message for a day or two, but by Friday they’ll have everyone fully in line and proclaiming that O’Connell won because of voter backlash against Obama’s position that school kids masturbate to the flag instead of reciting the Pledge.
Dennis G.
@celticdragonchick:
Actually the entire business should have convinced everybody of the madness of Confederate ideas and their failed world view should have been tossed down the dustbin of history.
And yet, here we are with the Confederate Party taking over Lincoln’s Party like a demon in a cheap horror movie.
It is not funny and that is why we need to stop their party.
Cheers
Ahasuerus
@General Stuck: Hey Stuck, remember that it’s not the whole country (yet) that’s spinning down to the Lowest Crazy Denominator, it’s just the Republican party.
Although we did re-elect GWB, so perhaps you have a point.
Quiddity
The current crop of Tea Party-endorsed candidates: Miller, Paul, Lee (UT), O’Donnell, and (maybe) Lamontagne, are all fairly young. It’s not as if these people have been on the scene for a long time and are now finally getting power, like Reagan did. This is a serious, generational transformation of the Republican party and I wonder if that means it’s irreversible, at least for a decade or so. What countervailing forces are out there that could make the Republican party more moderate? I sure as hell won’t be a turning out of the old guard, because the next generation is more radical than the Republicans currently in charge.
beltane
@Ahasuerus: Fox is now reporting that the NRSC will not be supporting O’Donnell. Someone on the GOP Mt. Olympus must be very pissed.

@lamh32:
She has a higher favorability rating in the GOP than Lincoln.
Think about that for a minute.
They will try to in the debates…but she will absolutely portray them as bullies (like O’Donnell did to Castle) while mocking their masculinity (the limp, impotent meme she put out) and make it impossible to engage her the same way they would with a male candidate. Another female candidate could do it…but the GOP is in short supply for 2012.
No. They will not come after her. Nothing to gain and much to lose.

Thanks, for the NCP post Dennis!
The idea of a Palin/O’Donnell 2012 NCP ticket is gonna have me whistling Dixie all night.

@beltane: No kidding. Like I said before, wow.
And by the way, I’d like to personally thank you for watching Fox so I don’t have to. Every time I try to watch them I wind up screaming at the television with my ears bleeding.

Now if the Democrats rally and keep both houses it will be an incredible humiliation for the GOP.
It will cause them to go to the mattresses over their direction.

Heh, indeed. Was thinking of old Turdblossom a little while ago when I saw a report on Tropical Storm Karl menacing the Yucatan peninsula.
beltane
@Corner Stone: O’Donnell has $20,000 cash on hand compared to Coon’s $1,000,000, and 44% of Castle’s supporters plan to vote for Coons. O’Donnell is not only crazy, but she is also a sketchy character and a liar (more so than your average GOP nutter). No sense in throwing good money after bad.

Look at memeorandum today — even Krauthammer was out there in the sunshine a-shittin on O’Donnell, and he NEVER drags his ass out of the coffin before Friday.

That’s what makes her so perfect. Even the right knows she’s crazy. It won’t be long before they rally around. But that just means we have to strike fast, and hard (and no vulgarity, you heathens!).

KG
@celticdragonchick: my guess is that there will be one candidate who decides to go after Palin. It’ll be someone who doesn’t really have a chance, probably whoever is running fourth. It will allow for the other two contenders (assuming three contenders including Palin) to look presidential while “defending” Palin from untoward attacks and benefiting from said attacks.
All that said, I think if Palin gets in, I don’t think her bullshit will work very long. “Poor me, poor me” doesn’t sell well for long, especially in a GOP primary.

Running for President is a two year grind and you have to win either New Hampshire or Iowa. Both of those states demand retail politics Up Close & Personal. Palin doesn’t have the stamina. Is there a source for the ‘confederate platform of 1860’ information? I’d like to spread this around, but I’m loathe to do so with having actual source(s) that demonstrate the similarities.
