There were few surprises in the voting. Republicans voting yes were Collins, Graham, Gregg, Lugar, and Snowe. Ben Nelson voted no. She was confirmed with a larger margin than Alito, who was confirmed 58 to 42, and Thomas, who was confirmed 52 to 48, but with fewer votes than the remaining justices, a reflection of the heightened and toxic political environment this election year.
See, this is why it’s always a mistake to skip BJ. I’d never have even heard that rumor but for this thread. Never have gotten turned on to the Discworld novels, but that’s something else again.
It’s a great week to be gay, and Elena Kagan is an ally, and we’d be happy to claim her for our team, but she’d fail the entrance exam because, um, she’s not gay.
I think the Whitehouse machine (the Regime as Limbaugh calls it) failed in its story line with this. Instead of saying “she’s not gay” as if it was a bad thing. They should have said “we have not discussed Ms. Kagan’s sexual orientation as it completely irrelevant to her ability to serve on SCOTUS, we nominated her because of her legal knowledge not her social life” or some such thing. I was a tad disappointed that they just knee jerked the “no she isn’t” bullshit as if it would make the slightest bit of difference if she was.

Something I noticed via the Willis link was this hilarity. Can I invite people to create/Photoshop in new slogans plz?

With all the previous Republican SC appointees, I doubt that she is the first on who is gay…

Kagan won’t even be the first gay Justice on the current court, if the rumors about John Roberts are correct.

Yup. I never would have become the Community Coffee addict that I am now if not for one of last year’s threads.

Let’s see a link or some evidence that she’s gay before getting all excited about it.

well, great even if you aren’t gay but see no reason to deny people basic human rights.
also, now that she is confirmed, can we stop hearing speculation about her sex life? please?
