You know, there were times back in the day when I was into gaming and I would have a ping over 350 and I was ready to kill someone at Adelphia/Comcast/whoeverthehellIwasusing. Even then, though, I probably would have though launching nuclear weapons was an over-reaction for a cyber attack.

Maybe she thinks we shouldn’t rule out nuking any country that attacks us with Cybermen.

How does one ” fire a cyber attack”, anyway? Do you need a cyber gun?
MikeJ
Back in, uhm, ’93 or so, somebody broke into a network accessible resource I had created. I hired the guy rather than nuking Park Slope.
Mnemosyne
Don’t forget the now-classic Pat Buchanan response: “I wouldn’t nuke someone for hacking into my computer, no.”
When you’re too paranoid for Pat Buchanan, you’ve crossed some kind of threshold.
Chyron HR
Does Republican trolling count as a Cyber-Attack? We should take out the next Palin rally just to be sure.

John Cole:
Which just goes to show you were never manly and macho enough to be a Republican in the first place. Not like Sarah Palin.

When you’re to the right of Pat Buchanan, you know things aren’t going too well:
Palin/Bachmann 2012!
jl
Cole has become too much a weak cowardly Democrat even to confront the strike out comment emergency in the prevous thread.
If Cole were a real man’s man he would nuke that thread, and nuke it now.
Or, does Cole not even pack nukes?
If not, then he is lying about how he hunted mice, small game and other varmints since his youth.

What if a foreign leader says “Nanny nanny boo-boo” and sticks his tongue out.
Does that warrant Nukes, Bio/chemical, or conventional weapons?

I mean, we’re talking about people who thought end of life counseling involved George Soros giving a thumbs up or down on Aunt Maude. So this seems about right as far as proportional fear goes.

Michelle Bachmann thinks that a cyber attack means the computers get up off the desks and start attacking us. Ouch! That keyboard hurts! Stop strangling me with the mouse cable!
Alex S.
I love Michele Bachmann, mainly because she is too over-the-top to be taken seriously. I don’t want her to go.
Mike Kay
Can she even turn on a computer?

On the flipside, there’d be a lot less fauxhemians these days…

It is when I read things like this that I wish there were a God to whom we could pray for divine intervention to protect the earth and all its inhabitants from total idiots.
Is there a good way to keep Bachman powerless?
Citizen_X
Maybe she’s worried about a Cylon attack.

Under the Bachman Doctrine…
On an individual level, if someone hacks my computer, can I blow up their house with a dirty bomb?
Josie
When I read statements like this by Bachmann and her ilk, I think that one of two things are true – either she really is this incredibly stupid and she got elected, or she actually believes that her voters are this incredibly stupid and will elect her again. Either possibility is so scary.
Keith
I wonder what she thinks is an appropriate response to hacking into Sarah Palin’s email.
FormerSwingVoter
How did “cyber attack” get mentioned in there with biological and chemical weapons, anyway? Like, dusting NYC with anthrax is equivalent to someone reading your email? Really?
Osprey
@Josie:
I think it’s both. Incredibly stupid people elect incredibly stupid people, but I’ll bet she thinks she’s smarter than those who elected her.
And…for JC, I remember the old 28.8 days of FPS gaming…and come to think of it, Bachmann and Palin’s voices remind me of those modems…remember those horrific screeching noises they would make when you signed on? Awful.
Ed Drone
@Cacti:
No, that warrants a Sarah Palin book tour.
SATSQ

Violet
@FormerSwingVoter:
Because it includes the word “attack.” Bachmann has no idea what “cyber” means and her standard response to any kind of attack is “nuke ’em.”

Where’s the Hillary hole tag for this post? I demand a Hillary hole tag for black hole Bachmann (where all reason and sanity gets sucked in, never to be seen again).

There are days when I sort of wish that ole Tricky Dick himself were still around to comment on l’affairs d’GOP. Then I realize that Pat is still here and on TV, and that is about as close as we’ll ever get.

You may recall a few months ago Jay Rosen making the suggestion that Sunday talk shows run a fact check of what the guests say an post it online.

i think they think a cyber attack will come from cyberia, across the bering strait, which would make sarah palin the rudy giuliani of the whole think, sort of, maybe the ed koch or david dinkins to be technical, but she would there, and she would know more than the experts.
and bachmann played a lot of missle command in college and no one should question her credentials.

OT and meta, as they’d say at GOS: Since we’ve got a working reply button, couldn’t we get another one resembling the “like” button on FB or the “recommend” button on GOS to signal appreciation for a well-turned comment without undue time- or word-wasting?

@IndyLib: Oh come on, Rich Lowery’s rise upon seeing Palin on TV was anything but mediocre.

I’m still torn about a Palin-Bachmann 2012 ticket. From the perspective of a partisan: YES PLEASE. From the perspective of a normal American: PLEASE MAKE THE CRAZY STUPID GO AWAY.

Didn’t we have a discussion about that around here a little while ago? I think the general consensus was that people didn’t want a comment ratings system. I’d prefer not to have a comments rating system, personally. I don’t particularly like them.

Bachmann, Beck, Hannity (Mr. pro palin/Bachmann 2012 ticket), Limbaugh etc… are the entertainment wing of the GOP and now have taken over the serious politics wing of the party as well. It will be interesting how many votes they can turn out with mad dashes and jingoistic fear mongering/ I doubt enough to put one of these clowns in the Oval Office, but not seriously doubt — But wtfK’s these days with digital sound bites hardwired minute to minute into our brains and a black islamofascist in the WH.

I don’t know about you, but I’d love to see Bachmann learn a little more about internet terminology. Particularly the term ragequit. Maybe it’s time for her to do so, and make everyone happy.

@Violet:
Thanks. Missed that, Violet. Just thought that comments that say merely “This!” or “Wins the thread!” or even, “I agree with X,” could easily be done with some sign of approval (wasn’t thinking of anything either negative or numerical).
But, in the immortal words of Emily Latella: “Never mind.”
Ed.: Oh, and I used the strikethrough and the thread did not go nuclear!
cfaller96
@Osprey:
Never bet on Obama “losing it” in any situation. He’d handle whatever Caribou Barbie gave and he’d give it right back, all with a sweet smile and a calm charming voice. He’s good.
As for the viewers, the debates might hurt a bit, especially for the brain, optimism for the future, guilt at what we’re handing over to our children, etc. But OTOH, the Saturday Night Live skits would be Epic, no?
cfaller96
John, have we reached the Wingularity yet? Or am I misusing that term?

@beltane: Oh, I imagine it was pretty mediocre. Personally, I can’t wait for Palin/Bachman ’12. Double the fun and tons of Daily Show material. We’d also stand to get a veritable feast of rightblogger lesbian bondage fantasies as an added treat (not that there’s anything wrong with that). Steele was just thinking ahead, prepping the new recruits for the next campaign.

@Violet:
Absolutely right on.
The last thing this place needs is to succumb to what I’ll refer to as the “Kos Korollary” (h/t Godwin): As the number of comments in a thread increases, the probability that 51% or more of them will be arguments about ratings abuse approaches 1.

@Whackjob Militia Leader soonergrunt: further to my last, it seems that Treasonous Bastard has emulated his dream girl and quit.
I had to do that. If it was too obvious then somebody besides me should’ve thought of it by now.

@Polish the Guillotines:
“ratings abuse”
In my pathetic defense, I merely suggested a “like” button to replace the necessity of replying to show approval. The “abuse” crap at GOS arises from use of the troll rating button, which I did not suggest. Anyway, I had missed the prior discussion and fully concede: “Never mind.”
MikeJ
@Polish the Guillotines: Badly designed systems don’t make all systems bad. Having no negative rating solves the problem with people troll rating stuff they disagree with.
JSK has a [x] liked this comment thingee. Perhaps the only good thing about JSK.
That said, if it were up to me, I’d make no effort to add anything like it here.

If they can’t hire Tina Fey to do the job, then who on the Dem side would draw the short straw and have to play Palin in the debate prep rehearsals? I’m thinking there would need to be lots alcohol or drugs involved – they might require hazard pay and/or workman’s comp.

Has anyone seen a video of this? Does Palin or anyone in the audience do a double take or anything? My guess is everybody just cheered.
