Imagine about the last guy on Earth whom you’d expect would send friend o’ the blog Tom Levenson a personal note praising Newton and the Counterfeiter. Done? Now check to see if you were right.
The country holds its breath for a comment from Megan McArdle.

I have not read his book, but I did hear Tom on I think it was Talk of the Nation, or maybe Science Friday and the book sounded really interesting (as did Tom). I did not make the connection with the guy who post hear until a few months later when in response to something he said I checked out his website and realized it was the guy I was listening to while at the gym.

Unlike the culture warriors, he doesn’t see liberal agendas in every piece of art, maybe?

I got it right! I can’t believe it!

Gosh, I’m not so sure I’d trumpet that endorsement from Rove, just sayin’…
Violet
Wouldn’t have guessed that. Handwritten notes are nice, though.

Thanks, Tim. I must say — could have knocked me down w. a feather when I opened up that very nice, hand-addressed envelope.

Does McMegan know how to read?
Martin
@robertdsc: Likely not. She’d never ascribe to attending an education system mandated by the state, let alone one paid by the state. True libertarians learn to read by offering some service to the free market in exchange for such lessons. Alas, there are only so many things a young girl can offer the world…

I’m agog. I’m agog, Magog, and generally flumoxed and betwattled. Wonder who rove identifies with? Actually, I’m not at all surprised. First of all rove is no dummy. Second of all he shares many points of similarity with your counterfeitor, Tom, in that both found themselves working as a kind of self made brain trust for effete, overbred aristocrats. Tom’s counterfeitor –and I urge everyone to get the book–spends some time writing and selling professional insights on money and the mint for the aristocrats running the British economy. I thought at once of kristol and rove and other top pundits and enforcers who act as guides, teachers, minders and fixers for our own brainless aristocrats.

It’s Not Unusual that people, even Rove, like Newton. I’m sure it was nice to read that he said Danke Schoen for writing it.

@thomas Levenson: I just clicked from Tim’s link to your website to Amazon and ended up buying the book.
This in spite of the rec from Rove, mind you.
@Aimai: Thanks for the review, makes me feel better.

WE GOT BEAN!
Just got off the phone with her office
MikeJ
@Seth 4:10: Stupak says “at least six” of his dozen are still with him. This morning it was 204 yes, 206 no, 11 undecided non-Stupakids, 12 Stupakids, 216 needed. Which meant that even getting all 11 undecideds wouldn’t be enough. If five have defected from Stupak, things are looking pretty good.
Napoleon
@MikeJ:
Stupak has proven to be a complete liar with his numbers all along, why should today be any different?

Oh, I just saw that you changed the BJ slogan to “Peak Wingnut Was a Lie.” I love it.

convergence of Intrade prices at 87 (buy) 86.6 (sell).
that’s ~1:6.7 odds on victory.

I catalogued Newton and the Counterfeiter a few weeks back for one of our libraries. It was one of those Wow moments to have it fall in my hands.
Best of luck with the sales, Tom.

I guessed Dick Cheney, so I think I deserve some sort of consolation prize.
(A complimentary waterboarding, maybe.)
