I have spent some more hours happily OCDing through the Lexicon, adding attributions, cleaning up links, and including such neologisms as PTDB, Green Balloon Juice, Teabuggers, Moderation (Your Comment Is Awaiting) — linked the WP Codex spam list there — and Firebagger:
Firebagger – Unfortunate portmanteau of FDL ‘Firepup’ and ‘Teabagger’, possibly coined by Firedoglake commenter Knoxville in December 2009 to celebrate the new anti-Obama partnership between Jane Hamsher and Grover Norquist: “How can anyone seriously support any president as he pulls tom-fuckery on the American people? I’d be more than happy if Obama were to fight for the common good and the best interests of the American people. But he’s not. Till he changes course – and till others in his base see that he’s screwing around for all the wrong reasons and screwing us all over in the process – I’ll speak out against him. Call me PUMA. Call me Firebagger. Call me the last true Progressive standing.” First nutpicked for Balloon Juice here, courtesy of commentor Midnight Marauder.
Too much?
If you want to claim credit for a particular phrase, suggest additions, or criticize my copyediting skills, please do so below. Except for the peculiar line spacing between entries — that’s a FYWP, I’m afraid.
bob
Too much? How could it be too much to ridicule others who are fighting for the Middle Class, their own financial and physical health and against corporate tyranny? I mean, when they don’t sing exactly the same notes as you do.
No, all that one can possibly do is to make up silly insults until your otherwise-allies learn to sing it correctly! Don’t learn, don’t wonder, just make up snark and giggle about it.
Plus Progressives aren’t as nearly as nasty as Conservative Republicans, so it is much safer to attack them when you don’t get your way. This I learned from Dkos. So don’t cross me.
Cat Lady
Definitely coined by Charles Pierce. He confirmed it here.

I think we could all use some Stevie this morning.
Way way way OT: I was watching Tony Blair give evidence to the Iraq War inquiry this morning. I was at the gym, so didn’t have the sound with the picture. His body language was… interesting. He turned very very red at one point. Don’t know what they were asking him.
I’m reading the transcripts now. He keeps mentioning Iran; how it’s a threat. Believe it or not, he’s more messianic than Bush. More devious. And he’ll never pay a price.
Labour will, however.
Warren Terra
I like John Scalzi’s characterization of the Congressional Republicans as nihilists, but I’m not sure it needs explanation (and thus not sure it’s a candidate for the lexicon). Maybe a pithy version?
Cat Lady
@R-Jud:
Blair may not end up at the Hague, but at least they’re making him squirm, and there are lots of protesters outside calling him a war criminal. I’d settle for that here. And, if he thinks Iran’s such a big threat why were he and Commander Codpiece so eager to get rid of Iran’s biggest adversary in the region? He and Bushie were two psychopathic peas in a pod, to our everlasting shame.

I can’t believe Randroid is also missing:
Randroid — Portmanteau of android and Ayn Rand’s surname; used to describe those so enamored of Rand’s Objectivist pseudo-philosophy (as popularized in her novels, most prominently in Atlas Shrugged and The Fountainhead ) that they have become reflexive, morally inhuman, grotesques.

Not in use yet, but I predict it’ll be a biggie:
Alito Grimace — Grimace that forms on a conservative’s face when a particular criticism hits a nerve. The entry for crazification factor has a short explanation and a link to kfmonkey while the entry for 27% has more detail and the same link. I’d leave the short explanation at crazification and add a “for more info see 27%.”

Completely OT, but I just had to say this.
People here at BJ and elsewhere often call Glennzilla shrill, often with good reason, myself as much as anyone. But his post today reminds me of why I still read him:
http://www.salon.com/news/opinion/glenn_greenwald/2010/01/29/iraq/index.html
Yup. I, too, am angry about this. At Congress, at Obama and Holder, at the media that gleefully enabled the entire thing and still do, at the American people who seem to not want to face their own culpability. And I don’t know if I’ll ever get over that anger.
And that’s why, no matter how often I call his stuff a little over the top, Glenn is relevant and important to me.

The Dems are very late in adopting the “hit them on their strengths” style of campaigning. I know the Republicans are NOT the party of fiscal discipline that they pretend they are. But the general public may not know that. Time to use votes like this against them.
Sample campaign commercial:
Voiceover: “Republicans like [Senator X] claim to be the party of fiscal discipline…”
Images/audio of Limbaugh/Hannity/Beck screeching about how Republicans are the fiscal conservatives. Hopefully some interview footage of [Senator X] talking about how he’s a fiscally conservative.
Voiceover: “But when it came to requiring Congress to pay as they go, just like regular Americans, [Senator X] voted no.”
Image/video of [Senator X] voting against Pay-as-you-go.
Voiceover: “[Senator Y] believes Congress needs to be responsible with your money. Vote for fiscal responsibility. Vote for [Senator Y] in November.”
And yet somehow the Dems will let the Republicans keep going with the “‘party of fiscal discipline” meme. Sigh.

He’s taking advantage of previous misinformation to lie about this case. Everyone saw O’Keefe’s pimp outfit and will just assume that the telephone company outfits were equally crazy, so that only an idiot wouldn’t realize it was a scam. Except that nowhere in the ACORN video is O’Keefe shown actually wearing the pimp outfit into the meetings with ACORN employees. He was dressed business casual because he wanted to come across as the boyfriend trying to get the hooker away from the dangerous pimp. Everything to the contrary was edited for effect.
I’m sure they would have done the same here, embellishing the phone company uniforms to an outlandish degree in footage filmed later on the street to make Landrieu’s employees look stupid. It’s very sick stuff, anyone who would do that kind of thing to fellow human beings over politics is seriously fucked up mentally.

@Violet: Yes yes yes, but we can’t wait until campaign commercials. We have to strike while the iron is hot and make them look like hypocrites now.
Also, people have gotten pretty cynical about lying politicians (thanks, republicans) so I’m afraid that people are going to tune out claims like this in campaign commercials.
For this particular issue, I’d like to see the dems have a unified push on messaging; mocking the republicans for their hypocrisy, expressing outrage, expressing surprise at this “showing of their true colors” etc, and then have the MSM do their job by highlighting the “conroversy” over the republicans approach to the deficit.

You do realize that the link to “law enforcement officer” does not go back to the original affidavit but to an unlinked and unverifiable assertion made by an anonymous person? And while Patterico seems unclear on the concept of time we here in this universe refer to it as the “thing that prevents everything from happening all at once.” Continuing to bitch about early accounts of the crime when those early accounts are contradicted by later stories made up by the criminals and their friends is fine. But the rest of us, or the WaPo, are under no obligation to go back in time to retract correct accounts of early accounts because the right wing has settled on a new theory of the crime in which impersonating telephone repairmen, lying to government officials, and attempting to tamper with phone lines and senatorial staff business is just a “youthful indiscretion.”

Upper West: Dangerous reversion to 2000 “no difference” mentality that led to 8 years of rape and pillage with sociopaths in charge.
I don’t agree with your scapegoating or your reasoning. Simply wishing to reach the most convenient conclusion in your mind does not make it true.
How about this: Ralph Nader ran to get out the message that the corporations run America, and that the Dems are playing it for the Right. You may argue whether the falldown Congress falls down out of fear or design. Naderites say design, I guess you have another explanation. However the Naderite’s hypothesis explains and predicts events much better than your “dangerous reversion” scenario suggests.
It may seem different on here or on dailykos, but you do have anything like widely-held agreement or the force of logic in your anti-Nader statements. This usually makes people with scapegoating-attitudes bellicose and abusive, but continued statements and restatements of willful fantasy alters nothing.
bob
@Jason Bylinowski: Three words: Grover Fucking Norquist. You were saying something about “otherwise-allies”? Explain that; otherwise, STFU.
You should understand that it is actually easier to work with those who differ respectfully, even if in fierce ideological opposition, than it is to try to reason with those who scream obscenities and make up glossaries of insults against you–even as they claim to be on your side of “the aisle.”
What is happening is that the abusive anti-Nader/Hamsher-bashing types have lost a major portion of teh “Left” by the endless abuse. They (and me) aren’t listening to you anymore. I come here once in a while, but less and less, and eventually not at all, probably. The snarky hate and smears against others is effective if you wish to destroy a movement, not to build it. And they have done a fine job.
Insulting ideological allies is stupid, sorry to see the infection has spread here from dkos. If it actually worked to get things done, okay … but all the anti-Progressive scapegoating and snark has been counterproductive and I’d like to get on with things myself. I tried it the DKos way, but the insults and hate for others on “our side” just never, ever quits. And it DOESN’T WORK.

The definition for Kabuki needs to name its origin:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kabuki
“Kabuki (歌舞伎, kabuki?) is the highly stylized classical Japanese dance-drama. Kabuki theatre is known for the stylization of its drama and for the elaborate make-up worn by some of its performers.”
It’s completely opaque to people who don’t already understand it… hence the political analog.
Batocchio
I don’t think it’s too much, unfortunately. Obama and the Dems need accurate, sincere criticism to keep them honest. Some of his critics have gone far beyond that. I hope they come back.
Norquist is a far-right zealot, scumbag and a liar, and one of the leading reasons we have the Cult of Cartoon St. Ronnie (see Will Bunch’s Tear Down this Myth), not to mention fiscal recklessness by GOP politicians across the country (the no new taxes pledge, even in the face of Armaggedon). Norquist and Rove sought, and still seek, the destruction of the Democratic Party and liberalism in general. They’ve said it many times. In the meantime, under Bush, their policies devastated the country. On specific causes, perhaps it’s possible to find common ground. However, it’s necessary to tread extremely carefully. In this case, I think anyone working with him is being played by a very dangerous man.
(I don’t know how much Casino Jack gets into Norquist’s ties with Abramoff and the K Street project, but I’m looking forward to seeing the film.)
