Prolly gonna be hard to find anything to fit Tunch. Is there a Big & Tall store for cats? Here’s what ya do John: get some blue painters tape and make a ring around Tunch’s neck and a ring around his midsection.

    Then spray paint him red.

Then remove the tape and voila, Santa outfit. Add some blue for July 4th.

It is freezing here and raining, but no snow (thank goodness) we have the heating on but we also have a roaring fire in the hearth (I stopped at the wood shack on the way home), and I am sat here in my huge pink fluffy dressing gown, so all is good. Gonna bring in Con and Arnamade (the outside cats) after they have eaten their dinner. Con will sleep behind the computer monitor, Arnamade will go upstairs and sleep under the dresser in the guest room. Tomorrow I am going to weatherstrip every window and door in the house and then feed the birdies, they are going to need it. Spring can’t come soon enough for me.

Well, admittedly, I’ve already done something similar.

In college my advisor had a white bunny in his office. We became pretty good friends over the 4 years and after a particularly nasty final in my 3rd year, I broke into his office and went to town on the bunny with a spray bottle with a heavy concentration of blue food coloring.

It was a very pretty blue bunny for a few weeks.

    does greasemonkey work with chrome?

Not directly. Greasemonkey like scripts can be written, and there’s a growing library of code that allows some, but not all, GM scripts to be easily ported.

In fact, it’s probably easier to write gm scripts and port them with a compatibility layer than to develop native chrome extensions because of the extra hoops you have to jump through for unloading/loading/debugging under chrome.

  68. 68

    Going to Wiki:

In the fall of 1920, Crosby enrolled in the Jesuit-run Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington, with the intention of becoming a lawyer. He sent away for a set of mail-order drums. After much practice, he soon became good enough and was invited to join a local band made up of mostly local high school kids called the “Musicaladers,” managed by Al Rinker. He made so much money doing this that he decided to drop out of school during his final year to pursue a career in show business.

I guess it kinda counts, though if any of us could imagine Bing Crosby as a lawyer you’re a better human than I am.

They had to have Gib put down this September, and we all miss him dearly, so finding that video of him running around and playing was just so unexpected. So in general, I really like Balloon Juice, it’s one of my regular reads, but on this health care issue it’s become increasingly useless.

John Cole had a post about how the Blue Dogs are idiots but when they lose the next election (due to idiocy) Obama and Rahm will be blamed by dirty Internet hippies. That’s retarded – Rahm & Co. are supporting the Blue Dogs. Dirty internet hippies should want to see the Blue Dogs get canned, just like they want to see Rahm pissed off – and these two things go hand in hand.

The other day DougJ put up a post about how the Republican majority has been a myth for 30 years:

The modern Republican party has never been a real majority party and it probably never will be. Democrats have been for stretches and have a chance to be again right now.

And this proves that Democrats are not a shitty party because they have a real majority and yet are completely (or at least largely) unable to pass legislation.

I need to rant about the GAP…

did you know that their regular length jeans for women are 33″?

Yet, the average height for women is what, 5’3″.

That would mean that, according to the GAP, the average woman is 53% leg?

I am 5’8″ and the jeans at the GAP still require me to wear heels. Guess what, if I wanted to wear heels, I’d put on a fucking dress. 9 times out of 10, I’m wearing jeans because I want to be comfortable and heels are not.

Oh, and if you even dared to think that just because you wear a certain size in 1 kind of GAP jean, you wear that same size in another style. Seems there could be as much as a 2 size swing.

I am 6 feet (I know, I know, how did *that* happen) and they are one of the only places where I can buy jeans with a really long leg, I actually buy their extra long stuff which they have online. Solved the problem of a lifetime. But I can see why it would be frustrating for others as I usually suffer in the other direction. :-)

edit–if you find pair that fits you really well from Gap, you can get the shorter hem online.

    I love Stephen Colbert.

Stephen Colbert: Dedicated Lieberheads, the real Lieberlovers out there, may notice there’s a subtle shift in Joe’s present position from what it was waaaaaay back 90 days ago, when he said this to his home state newspaper, the Connecticut Post:

Lieberman: I was very focused on a group post-50, maybe more like post-55…and what I was proposing is that they might have an option to buy into Medicare.

Colbert: Yes, he proposed an option to buy into Medicare, which technically means that yesterday he threatened to filibuster his own proposal. But that is easily explained: clearly Lieberman has gone from having ‘Joementum’ to having ‘Joementia.’ But I’m sure he’ll get great treatment. After all, he’s 65—he’s covered by Medicare.

You would love it here in D.C. right now, sister. We’re in the process of getting 1 to 2 feet of snow (I’m actually in suburban Virginia), it’s 28° outside, and everyone is freaking out. Good times.

I got out of the Big Box Bookstore about 11:00 tonight, walked around to the grocery store on the other side of the shopping center and found it still in chaos. Looked like a plague of locusts had ripped through it. No bread in the deli, almost all the eggs and milk decimated. And all the heavy cream gone (which I require for my occasional cup of coffee). WTF is up with that?! “It’s the worst snowstorm in decades–let’s buy cream!” Crowds of people lined up at the registers like they were evacuating Saigon in ’75.

Whatever. I’m supposed to go back to the BBB at 3:00 tomorrow, but I’m hoping that they will close the store before I have to go in. It’s supposed to snow–hard–all day tomorrow. Realistically, though–especially given that this is one week before Christmas–they’ll probably keep the store open against all odds, so I’ll go in and then have nothing to do all evening. Except think about how to get home afterwards. More good times.

Anyway, it’s good to be home in the man-cave right now. I’m listening to stupid old songs on YouTube and occasionally going to the window to look down on the snow-covered grounds of the Steepleton Arms from eight stories up.

    @asiangrrlMN:

Saw the Orly comments, and they did make me laugh. If someone could kidnap Dick Armey, I’d like that. He deserves a punch in the neck. Taitz is just a distraction at this point.

(Maddow was on fire tonight, IMHO)

    asiangrrlMN says:

@arguingwithsignposts: Hm. I read that as Dicknap Kid Armey, which is even funnier. I haven’t watched Maddow in a long time–or Olbermann. I’m just too…tired.

What does Green Balloon Juice reference? It’s not yet in the lexicon, but I’ve seen it referenced multiple times the past few days.

Okay, I put a rough draft in the Lexicon. Who gets credit for the genius spin on Rod Jetton’s thuggery?

@Anne Laurie: Can we just call it a groupthink definition? Jetton started it then we all pretty much ran with it. I never doubt the sheer genius I see here.

There is nothing that brings out the self-loathing more than jean shopping.

    You forgot about…. swimsuits.

Or for that matter, brassieres. Speaking of a situation where as soon as you finally find a brand & model that fits well and is comfortable, you’re well advised to buy every one you can find, because it’s going to be discontinued with extreme prejudice.

I mean, I can and do live without jeans (go, AsianGrrrl!) but it’s not possible in most modern American settings to avoid brassieres and swimsuits entirely if you’re a woman over the age of 21.

    asiangrrlMN says:

@Anne Laurie: Yes, I completely agree with you about bras. I am a well-endowed gal, and it’s so damn demoralizing to try to find a good-fitting bra that is also cute. Forget swimsuits. I haven’t bought one of those in years, either. Too depressing.

@Yutsano: I actually read that as dicknap. I made up the rest, but yeah, ok, maybe I do need to get laid.

@arguingwithsignposts: Yes. Ben Nelson could definitely use a punch…somewhere.

Night, all. I need to try to sleep.

I wouldn’t waste the effort. A vegetable peeler and lemon juice however, now that will be fun.

You know, for a male with other predilections that would be a major tease. However your feminine wiles shall have no effect on me. Nope, not gonna happen, nuh-huh.

Hello there. In Bangkok. Hot. Went today to see a temple with a roof covered in multicoloured mirrored tiles. Possibly the gayest thing I have ever seen. Also saw a 25 metre long gold reclining Buddha.

TS + 3 (surprisingly good caipirinhas)

Ugh. I don’t have much of a problem finding fashion bras as 34D is not so obscure, but sports bras that actually do what they are supposed to? Insanely hard. The only one that works for me is the Enell sports bra, and it’s a) hideous; b) expensive; c) almost impossible to purchase without having to wait three weeks because they’re all on backorder.

TattooSydney, so glad you’re enjoying your honeymoon!

@arguingwithsignposts: Smudge! That is an excellent name. The nicknames, of course, will follow.

I had a Smidget, who was a wonderful cat.

Sorry Steep is gone, because that description of DC during a snowstorm was exactly how my husband nostagically described it. Made me LOL.

@Max: difference #2435 between men and women: women know which stores and designers have clothes that fit differently and how; guys…um, not so much. most guys reading this are silently saying to themselves: “really?”

Yeah, that’s because for the most part, men’s clothing manufacturers think they have consumers to please, and women’s clothing manufacturers think they have victims to torture.

My husband can walk into any store, pick up pants with his waist / inseam, and walk out. No trying on, and of course he never worries about whether they’re on sale, either–he’s just, “I need pants.” The one time he tried on some different designer, he said “These aren’t right,” and went back over to Dockers. Whereas if I try on something and it doesn’t fit in my regular size, I’ve been conditioned to think there’s something wrong with me rather than the jeans.

Men aren’t gonna spend hours trying shit on, so Levi’s or whomever knows they better standardize. Women would like to not spend hours trying shit on either, but there’s not much choice. I can wear clothes in THREE size ranges, depending on the manufacturer. (Though I’m not delusional enough to think that the smaller number means I’m in fact smaller.)

I hate people who play dress-up with defenseless animals. Poor thing looks ridiculous.

Could be worse though I guess. For example, they could have used the dog as set dressing for some moronic right-wing rant.
