I heard on the Today Show that she’s bitching about it. Never mind that she posed for it. Unbelievable. If it didn’t make me feel ooky, I’d say that I can’t really blame Sully for his obsession about her. Because I am just dumbfounded that anyone sentient takes this woman seriously. But as is his MO, Sully always takes it just one.step.too.far.

It’s beautiful here too. Even though I was awake until 3, I was out of bed by 7:30 and got 5 miles in before breakfast.
I’m already in vacation mode, though. Not a lot of stuff getting written today. Must try harder.

At some point here the roads are going to get nasty. We’ve had frost on the ground in the morning for the last 9 days or so, but no precipitation. That seems unlikely to keep happening.

Welll, it’s overcast and cold here so FU, JC. I mean that with love.

I got my H1N1 shot yesterday. I am shocked that I was able to get it. But apparently, not enough students signed up for our supply and they opened it to everyone. I am a big believer in innoculation and prevention, so when given the chance, I take it. Proportionally, many more faculty and staff took advantage. I wonder if the student indifference (despite much campus marketing of H1N1 information) is the culprit or parental hostility to vaccines. I find a shocking amount of scientific ignorance among parents, especially the helicopter type parents. I would not be surprised to find out there are many Jenny McCarthy and Jim Carrey fans out there among our way-too-invested parents.

@geg6: I’m sure she’d change her tune if Newsweek cuts her a check for the photo.
That said, points to Newsweek for not cropping out her desecrating the flag.

It’s not about sexism, it’s about the lack of homoerotic photography.
SiubhanDuinne
I don’t know how much of that is authentic and how much is photoshopped, but either way, isn’t leaning her elbow on the US flag — which is tossed carelessly aside like a casual afghan-on-a-loveseat — a violation of the Flag Code? I actually find that rather offensive.
Annie
@geg6:
That sums up Palin nicely — She posed for it, so she could “bitch” about it, and then she will pose and bitch, pose and bitch, again and again on Fox News and beyond….And eventually blame it on the MSM.

@The Bearded Blogger: Man, I hope Tweety doesn’t read that. The thrill up his leg would be high voltage.

@SiubhanDuinne: It looks like she used to dry off her running sweat… it’s winger porn, I tell you!

Her industrial-strength stupid is harshing my starburst buzz. I’m bummed out now.

Sarah Palin is sexist. She thought she could flirt and wink her way to the White House. Without her beauty queen training, she would be just another Mean Jean Schmidt, giving starbursts to no one.
General Winfield Stuck
Hugh Hewitt has it and isn’t finished yet.
DougL (frmrly: Conservatively Liberal)
If Newsweek had a question like “Sarah in 2012? There’s a good chance she could win against Obama.” rather than “How do you solve a problem like Sarah? She’s bad news for the GOP — and everybody else. Too.” then we would hear nothing but the sounds of joyful fapping throughout Jesusland.
I do like the ‘Too.” tacked onto the end, that should get their panties in a twist.

Is “nontroversy” in the Balloon Juice Lexicon? If not, it should be.
As for Palin, until Newsweek photoshops her head onto Adriana Lima’s body as she’s walking down some runway in Milan, cries of sexism will continue to ring hollow in my ears.
The Bearded Blogger
@General Winfield Stuck: I just had the weirdest thought… there can be no shirtless photos of Mitt Romney because some of the circuits and wiring would show…

It’s really hard being the hottest (ex) governor from the coldest state – **wink, wink**.
I mean, with all of these people invading Bible Spice’s personal life, and all. She only posed for a picture in Runner’s World. She has a right to her privacy.
It’s not like she’s involved in deviant, anti-American, anti-Jesus sex. Even if she was, it would be the government’s job to get involved, not the media.
Keith G
Come on, she has a point. A microscopically small point, but one nonetheless.
It isn’t about sexism, but just editorial choice. Newsweek, I’m guessing here, had hundreds of cover choices. When I saw the cover I about choked on my steal cut oatmeal.
Could one imagine the commentary if on the next Obama cover they choose the one where POTUS seem to be eying some tush?
A cover is by definition commentary. I’m happy they chose that one. Caribou Barbie’s turkeys are coming home and we know what happens next.

Yesterday on NBC Nightly News, Brian Williams was interviewing some woman about the new Breast Cancer screening guidelines because they’re now saying women don’t need to get them as early or as often.
Williams: Do you think it’s safe to say that some people would consider this rationing?
I almost threw something at the TV. Dick.
If the nuts didn’t think it was rationing before, they’ll certainly milk it as rationing now. Except that no one watches NBC News – so there’s hope.

I know polls are not the gospel, but it is a bit heartwarming to me, that despite the wingnuts best efforts they are stuck on stoopid Bush numbers and can’t get up.
The Wapo poll today gives a hint of how the public views the two parties and what they have to offer.
“Overall, which party — the Democrats or the Republicans — do you trust to do a better job in coping with the main problems the nation faces over the next few years?”
Dems – 47%
Repubs — 31%
Obama approval = 56% Disapprove = 42%
Going to need a lot more tea bags

This woman is the perennial victim. Nothing is ever her fault. It’s the same with Prejean. Poor me, poor me.
However, I will say that the wingnuts and the far left seem to share the love of continuous outrage. Both ends of the spectrum are reactionary and perpetually hostile, facts be damned. I’ve seen my share of “nontroversy” on the left, over all kinds of stuff that turns out not be true, but angry bloggers pound away on their keyboards and write posts that indicate what someone, mostly Obama, better do, “or else”.
It’s more of the extreme victim mentality and it is making those in society completely unaccountable and entrenched in extended adolescence.
jrg
Totally. Not all of us have forgotten the campaign. Palin was all: “Hottest governor from the coldest state”, and winked her way through the debates. Meanwhile Obama was all like “Vote for me. I’ll stare at your daughter’s ass.”
But none of you people remember it, because you think Obama is the messiah. Or something. Also.
Keith G
@jrg: Fuck you
Dont hijack my words for your bull shit, ass hole

JenJen
@Michael D.: Mika Brzezenski says it’s rationing, so it must be.
Also, Mika agrees that Newsweek was out of bounds for running that cover photo “out of context.” Mika says she’ll be asking Jon Meacham about it next time he’s on Morning Joe. She’s on it.
General Winfield Stuck
@jrg:
asshole. Yes, very much so. But everything jrg and his wingnut buds have is doctored and fake. It is how they roll, the cardboard cut out party.
Bob In Pacifica
Palin taxed oil companies and then distributed the money to the people of Alaska. She’s a stealth Marxist.
jrg
Touchy, touchy.
My point was simply that Palin ran on her “good looks”. She milked it for all it was worth. It’s fair to point that out. It would not be fair to take an out-of-context photo of Obama and pretend that it matches some over-arching theme about him, or his campaign.
Welcome to the internet, amigo.

@jrg: I believe the video showed, sadly, that he wasn’t staring at it, but what’s the point of traveling the world if you can’t look around.
General Winfield Stuck
@jrg:
Wut? if you are trying snark, you might want to get some instructions and read them first. You are not making sense at all.
Max
@JenJen: I surprised Mika had time to comment. She seems to be busy telling women how to live their lives and have children because that’s what you need to be fulfilled in life and make your man happy and don’t worry about caring for the children, that’s what nannies are for!

Demo Woman
the media is so mean… How many pictures have you seen of Barack Obama in a bathing suit? Oh yeah, they actually printed those.
Sarah willingly posed for a picture that is part of the public domain. She needs to stop the whining and take responsibility for her own actions.
General Winfield Stuck
@Demo Woman:
But then she wouldn’t be the Sarah we all love to mock.
Keith G
@jrg: No.
Fair? Nuh-uh, babylove. No way
This was, in essence, an attack on the commentariat of this blog. Using my words. Man up and admit it.
And once again, fuck you.
Belafon (formerly anonevent)
@jrg:
While the Palin part was true, at least about the campaign, Obama never actually ran on an ass staring platform. I wonder what the change in votes would be if he ran on it.
jrg
I’m really starting to understand BOB and the other trolls around here. It’s impossible to lay down sarcasm thick enough for some of you to pick up on, so you might as well have fun pissing people off.
OK, I’ll spell it out. The right has no right to whine about the use of any sexy photo of Palin, because they portrayed her as “sexy” during and after the campaign. They are sleeping in the bed they made.

It has to be coherent dude. You can’t do snark that people get without that. We cannot read your mind without some “tell” in it. And you gave none so it sounded like sincere wingnuttery.
Stop sniffing that glue and get back to us.
Belafon (formerly anonevent)
@jrg: I think it’s early, snark meters aren’t running properly yet. I also think BOB has contaminated the site. It’s hard to do proper snark after the junk he has written. See this.
Demo Woman
@General Winfield Stuck: I’m still pissed at myself for watching some of the Oprah show. I do have to say that Sarah is a master at contradicting herself in the same sentence.

Limbaugh weighs in on the Palin opus from Planet Wingnut.
Teh Circus is open till further notice.
Keith G
@General Winfield Stuck: So…uh…jrg is using the “Sheilds” defense.
joes527
@General Winfield Stuck: I dunno. After yesterday maybe we should all take our snark meters in for a tune up, and I really don’t know jrg’s history, but his message seemed clearly 100% snark to me. (If you didn’t get it from the rest of the post (which makes it pretty clear) look at jrg’s last word.)
General Winfield Stuck
@Keith G:
I have no idea what jrg is doing.
kommrade reproductive vigor
Any photo the lieberul media runs of Sarah will automatically be suspect. Not enough clothing: Waah, sexism! Too much clothing: Waah, she looks stiff and uncomfortable!
Or the lighting would be bad or her make up wrong or that isn’t her best side or that’s an old photo, why don’t they have any new ones? Followed by intense kern counting and scrutiny of the photographer’s kitchen counters.
My bet: Time Magazine asked her for a recent photo, she found out they wouldn’t pay for the shoot and said no, Time bought the Runner’s World photo. The end.
The Moar You Know
@jrg: The stupid is thick in the air this morning. Maybe they haven’t had their coffee yet.
Maybe they’ve never heard the old net adage “lurk moar”.

By the way, it still wouldn’t be sexist to treat Sarah Palin as a ridiculous, pathetic excuse of a joke of a public figure.
She’s a terrible, ridiculous hack, a shallow, vapid manipulator of images, a stupid and ignorant ex-beauty queen, a mean and vindictive moron who should have absolutely no role in public life but dismissive ridicule, outside of reality TV shows at best.
Anyone who defends this moronic beast’s participation in public life is a complete nitwit.
General Winfield Stuck
@joes527:
Ok maybe, but the Shields comparison is bogus, the problem there was that people didn’t watch the video before commenting, as it was clearly snark. At least for me it was, after watching it the first time. You, not so much.

@General Winfield Stuck: LOL

@joes527: Since my thought process works in strange and occasionally convoluted ways….

concludes any attempts on my part at snark.
Maybe I have scanned one too many comment threads at Politico or WaPo and therefore tend to be a tad too literal when faced with mindless outrage – multiplied by what I type being used to mock those I respect.
If I read you wrong jrg, I take back one of the “fuck you”s.
joes527
@General Winfield Stuck:
Absolutely, and I explained that I let my predisposition to be disappointed in Shields lead me astray. I’d feel much better about him if he would just punch Bobo in the neck. (Note: that last bit is humorously intended. I am in no way advocating violence. Not even to that bastard Brooks. (BaBo?))

It’s the choice of this very casual photo for the cover that just doesn’t respect the dignity of her office. Except that she has no office, since she up and quit.
And using a flag as an elbow-rest doesn’t respect the dignity of the flag, either, but unless that was photoshopped in later Palin participated voluntarily in that, too. Also.
dan robinson
Too much of the Republican party has been over taken by Irritable Conservative Syndrome, which is a lot like Irritable Colon Syndrome, except that,
wait a minute!
It is exactly like Irritable Colon Syndrome! It leaves them grumpy and they spew shit all around.
What is really funny about that is that dope, MJ, is very good for the Irritable Colon Syndrome. A few hits, and it goes away. I’m pretty sure that it would work for Irritable Conservative Syndrome as well.
Svensker
@General Winfield Stuck:
I think jrg was being sarcastic. Go back and read the whole thing.
jrg
Thank you. In hindsight, maybe the “Obama is the messiah” remark was a little over-the-top, as there are a large number of idiot conservatives that actually think liberals believe that (yet, strangely, they can never cite a single prominent Dem that said or wrote anything remotely similar).
I think it’s projection, as a number of them seemed to believe that Bush is some sort of deity.
General Winfield Stuck
@joes527:
I did consider jrg’s end of “also” and decided it was, or well could have been, mocking liberals for using it. But since he has said it was all snark aimed at wingnuts, I take him at his word. But the rest of it didn’t jibe and the second response was what @jrg: confusing at best.
It is early and my snark meter certainly isn’t fully warmed up yet, and sometimes doesn’t all day.
General Winfield Stuck
@Svensker:
I have and admit it was with some caveats. But folks who come in late with clarity of 100 percent don’t impress.
Belafon (formerly anonevent)
@jrg: @General Winfield Stuck: Good people are calming down. Let’s get back to mocking Sarah!
General Winfield Stuck
@jrg:
And if I had read your first post, I would have known you were snarking, so that is my bad for sure. Apologies sir.

@Keith G: Well, there was this (as stolen from TBogg’s commentariat, of course).
She has no grounds upon which to stand because her ENTIRE campaign was predicated on her sex appeal. The GOP thought, “Well, Hillary is a woman. Sarah Palin is a woman with sex appeal (to a certain demo. I find her repulsive, myself). Good enough.”
Fuck her and her wah wah wah’ing all the way home.
Corner Stone
@El Cid:
So…you’re saying you wouldn’t vote for her then?
General Winfield Stuck

@Max: Oh good grief! I’d not seen that; thanks, I guess. :-)
A few weeks or so ago, on her Twitter feed, Mika talked about how she was making dinner from scratch for her family for the first time, and how awful it was but that they were nice to her because at least she tried.
How old is this woman? She’s making dinner for the first time in her life? WTF?
