Hey baby, when you get to name the topic, you cannot be off topic.
Observing the title first, I knew it was you.
xoxo.
MNPundit
That’s pretty good.
Here is the wiki on what it actually is.
jl
Otaku? Vagina Outrage? Wiki? What is this? All of you, you have gone mad.
There was one shot of a person who could be interpreted as an Ageloid. Who was just standing there like he was all ‘WTF is this’?
What were the flying hankies, or were they underpants?
PS: the subtitles were unhelpful. Also. and Besides.
Are they taking over the world? Is that why the squadron of bombers scrambled and flew off?
I didn’t see any outraged vaginas either.
What is going on here? I am confused and out of the loop. Prolly just as well that way, though.
Steeplejack
Excellent animation. Now if they could only harness that power for non-suspiciously-close-to-pervy purposes.
Fulcanelli
Annie, you’ve arrived.
BoB is sending you hugs and kisses. On the intertubez.
You may now resume your cold lye bath. That is all.

Fuck yeah! Sora no Otoshimono!
I actually just finished watching the third episode. The sequence Anne linked to was the ending of the second episode.
Its not exactly the best anime airing this season, but its fun, in a silly sort of way.
I also have a weakness for angel wings. (site probably not safe for work)
Fencedude
Oh yeah, and if anyone is really curious, the episode in question can be watched legally, for free, with subtitles on Crunchyroll
Anne Laurie
Yes, those are underpants, because the Japanese-geek idea of lulz is… impenetrable to the rest of us. But the animation is quite lovely, certainly more attractive than anything involving Chris Wallace, and I decided the song made a better earworm than the stuff Laura W was threatening us all with earlier this evening. So, this Vagina-American chooses to outrage all the Very Serious BJ Readers who are up late or early, because I love you guys. Except for the trolls, of course.
P.S. ‘Sora no Otoshimono’ means ‘Those That Fall From the Sky”. But they are talking about the angeloids, not the panties. Mostly.
Fencedude
Hey Anne, I just put through another post, but its not showing up. Can you check the filter?
BeccaM
Okay, I must be weird. My reaction was simply, “The fuck? Is this the Japanese anime version of a David Lynch movie?”
Fencedude
Lets try this again. The episode this comes from can be watched for free on Crunchyroll, completely legally
crunchyroll.com/media-534892/sora-no-otoshimono-2/
Fencedude
Well fuck, I guess for some reason you can’t post a link to the site which streams the show completely legally as it airs in Japan. FYWP
jl
@Anne Laurie: Thanks, I still don’t get it, but it doesn’t make sense to me in a more sensible sort of way now. Went from ‘unknown unknowns’ to ‘known unknowns’, though I have a feeling there are some pervy ‘unknown knowns’ lurking in there.
And yes I agree with others, the animation was very nice.
Fencedude
@jl:
If anyone is desperately curious as to just what us Otaku find amusing, you can watch the episode for free, legally.
Sora no Otoshimono Episode 2
I used TinyURL since WordPress has already eaten two posts trying to link to the site in question.
Anne Laurie
@Fencedude: Can’t find anything in the filter, sorry! But if anyone’s curious, there are subtitled episodes of “Sora” available on Crunchyroll.com. (Although, frankly, there are better anime series even in this ‘I Dream of Jeannie’ flavor.)
Robertdsc-iphone
I’ll stick with my recently purchased 4-volume set of The Melancholy Of Haruhi Suzumiya, thanks.
Anne Laurie
Hmm. Apparently WP does not care for the site “C r u n c h y r o l l” dot com. But that’s where I found the complete subtitled episode, along with many other & some better titles.

@Anne Laurie:
Possibly a holdover from when CR was a somewhat less reputable site. I still can’t believe the way they went legit and now air shows the same day they aired in Japan.
And yes, SoraOto is not, exactly, the greatest show they have.

Welcome the Japanese Overlords, Tunches!
dm
@Fencedude: yes, Time of Eve is maybe the best show they have, now.
Fencedude
@dm:
Oh yes, that’s ended hasn’t it? I should watch it. The release schedule was too damn drawn out for me to want to try and follow. Must remember to do that when I have free time, heard nothing but good things.

Step 1: Steal underpants
Step 2: ?????
Step 3: Have them outjet a Blackbird!!!
MikeJ
I don’t understand why underpants are nsfw. I mean there weren’t any women wearing nothing but panties in that clip, just unoccupied clothing. I can understand from a time wasting POV why a boss might not want you watching it, but that’s generally not what’s meant by NSFW. If that scares your boss, find a better place to work.
Without knowing anything about what the clip was really about (other than closing credits) the story I made up to go with it was based on the fact that all the people watching the panties fly away were men. I guessed a modern Lysistrata.
Blue Raven
Y’know, flying underpants that can outpace an SR-71 Blackbird are so twistedly idolized they become power talismans.
Sadly, I have consumed so much anime over time that my brain is attempting to merge Sailor Moon with the underpants thing and it’s grinding to a halt.
Blue Raven
@MikeJ: Underpants aren’t NSFW, but when you know there are vending machines in Japan where businessmen can buy underwear that looks just like that, it takes on a whole new meaning to watch them in a flying V.
J in WA
You know, lots of people read Balloon Juice. Not lots of them know what otaku. Post the meaning up front, please.

@J in WA:
Otaku (n.): Japanese word for “obsessive fan” (more or less). In the general internet parlance, and when used on english speaking websites, refers to fans of Anime and Manga.

Motherfucker always phrases shit the same goddamned way I would, but was around 400 earlier. lol.
demkat620
okay, either I don’t spend enough time here or I spend too much, cause I totally don’t get that.
BTW, my kids found this Japanese anime that is offensive, insane, and they think hilarious.
Something called Bo-bo-bo-bo-bo-bo.
Yes, that’s what its called. The hero defeats people with his flying fist of the nose hair.
BruceFromOhio
Otaku, anime panties, and people who can identify the profile of an SR-71: O, Balloon Juice, how I am entranced by thee, let me count teh ways. And it’s not even 7am.
Not sure I would tag this as “Vagina Outrage,” as the Japanese mind is incomprehensible to me, particularly with respect to creators of anime. And I don’t have a vagina.

otaku literally means fan-boy…originally that is all there were, and japanese is kinda gender neutral anyways.
school-girl underwear porn is very big with the salary-men.
i loved it when the panties went supersonic.
that was teh awesome.
CR has all the best fansubs, piping fresh.

I wonder if anybody ever tracked down the guy who was first aware of all internet traditions. It would be amusing to learn if he knows how widely he’s mocked. Of course he’s not mocked by helicopters though. They have no sense…of humor. And now you know…the rest of the story.
Good day!

And…the underpants were not laughing… Also.

Thank you for my morning LOL. Which got even funnier when my brain crossed this with the “Friendly Working Vibrator” callback set from Rocky Horror and got “Flying Supersonic Underwear!”

@matoko_chan: I think otaku literally means house if we want to get pedantic. And if we want to be otaku we do want to get pedantic. You’re pronouncing it wrong!!
Nick
Fuck you, Japan!
Though this video is one of the more milder reasons for that.
Mainly, I can’t stop watching the cartoons that come out of that strange land…
Nick
“more milder”…
Need more coffee, apparently. Guess I’ll run by the Time of Eve then.
Metatron
I suppose I ought to jump on the pedantry bandwagon and point out that お宅 is an honorific term used to refer to other people’s houses (or husbands, or organisations).
オタク on the other hand, means fan-boy, nerd or geek.

@matoko_chan: Are you sure? Back in the 90s anime magazines (yes in the brief period before internet dominance) told me that in Japan Otaku meant the obsessive ones who preferred anime to real life and lived that way.
Anyhow, more generally I was at cracked and they pointed out that before the internet, it was considered more socially acceptable to steal a girl’s panties even in the US but now it’s like the height of perv.
celticdragon
If they were outracing an SR-71 (flapping “wings” the entire time, LOL!), then hypersonic is closer to…uh, whatever it was they were doing.
Funniest thing I have watched all week. :)

Bo-bo-bo…one of the funniest ones out there.
My son and I really enjoyed that one. It has one of the funniest scenes we’ve ever watched. What’s great is that it’s pretty kid-safe.

Japan has given us so very, very much.
Case in point:

I lived there for three years, saw the vending machines, have a frickking degree in Japanese studies, and that country *still* manages to make my brain short out from time to time…well played, Japanerds, well played.
I think what makes it is the origami influence. When they all start nesting in trees, it’s just lovely. And goofy, and silly, and…

Oh my dear….if you think that’s NSFW, you are not visiting the sorts of blogs I like to frequent.

Personally I prefer Bantorra, Asura Cryin’ 2 and Darker than Black 2 this season… and IMHO this is not in the least NSFW, unless your boss is someone who associates panties with… well, what it’s associated with in anime.
